The story about the books legitimately horrified me that's so awful and the guy was totally in the wrong, especially with all the comments about how stupid it is and how she "doesn't look" like a reader. He wasn't helping her "get over" her trauma, he sounds toxic and frankly I'm glad she's not with him anymore

It honestly sounds like he’s jealous of her. Since she’s perceived as the smart one, and the one who earns more. While he’s not either of those. He also stated she’s really good looking, contrary (ig) to her hobby of reading.

And like, idk about others, but I truly seems to be far more attracted to the women in my class who are toppers. Idk why but the fact that they’re not just looks but also brains just makes them that much more attractive to me. (I assure you I don’t hit on or make any of them feel uncomfortable. It’s more like a distant small crush on them all.)

The story about the baby… if you have a baby you look after it equally.. you both made it so it’s both of your responsibility, yes when your working full time it’s understandable the other doing more ( even though a lot of men work full time and mum stays at home and the dad will still get up in the night as well as although mum isn’t going out to work raising a child is a full time unpaid job in itself!) looking after the baby of the night wakes but when you weren’t working doesn’t mean you’d till shouldn’t do anything.. if you didn’t want to be a parent then you should of thought about that and got an abortion as a child deserves all your love and attention and if your not going to give it that then you shouldn’t of brought the baby into the world. That one made me so angry!!!

I feel so sorry for the mother and she has every right to be pissed of with him as he is unbelievable as she is caring for the child they both made.. alone.. she deserves a medal… and considering he moans about not wanting to wake up in the night as he will be so tired all day, yet she wakes up to the baby all night and then looks after the baby all day and runs a house hold tired.. if she can do it then so can he! Xxxx

With the story about the books, he is defiantly the asshole. He has no right to do this,, and to be honest I feel like this is more to do with fragile masculinity than anything. He needs to leave such sensitive topics alone. And as someone who does have a "crutch" for my anxiety (obviously not as bad as hers), I hate it when people say to or try to take it away, even if they think they are helping, it is not their business what she does and how she copes. With the pregnancy announcement one, you are definitely NOT the asshole as that guy was completely rude, disrespectful and frankly, just horrific that he thought he had the right to share such private information. I also think that if that man (different story) wants to keep that ring on, let him. It could have sentimental meaning and it is incredibly disrespectful and rude to say that its misleading. Its just the same as a woman wearing a wedding ring to stop guys from hitting on her, none of your business and it doesn't effect anyone.

In the second story I think the wife should take your name because not only does she have a brother but because I can totally understand why you would want to keep your last name. I guess I can in a way understand why she would want to keep her last name but she should let her brother keep it so you can keep yours(if that makes sense). As for the story about the books, the guy completely disgusted me. What he did was awful, those books probably meant ALOT to her. Iam glad she’s not with him anymore

One thing! with the story where OP said their co-worker should take off their wedding band because their a widower, generally divorced people take off their rings/bands while most widowers don't take them off until they feel ready to (or at all) because it gives them a sense of closeness to their late spouse (plus i don't believe OP ever stated how long ago their co-worker's spouse passed, so it's possible that they simply don't want to take it off, if their spouse had passed fairly far back to OP posting it, or their spouse had just barely passed and they were still in grieving.)

The story bout the books: your not ‘helping her get over her trauma’ your FORCING her. Also, trauma just isn’t something you can ‘get over’. SHE LIKES BOOKS! She might not LOOK like a book worm, she might not act like a book worm, but she is one. And just Cus she earns more doesn’t mean she should contribute more to the house. That’s not fair. She studied more to get this high paying job. She made better choices which allowed her to make more money. Idk what your profession is and I won’t judge but if money is important to you, you should’ve chosen your career based on that. You better contribute equally if you wanna be treated equally, atleast in matters related to your house. She can spend her money where ever she wants as long as she pays her part for your house and you have NO say in it. ESPECIALLY if it’s something as sensitive as a trauma and her coping mechanism. This whole story sounds nothing more than your jealousy towards her liking books and being smart and also the higher earner while you’re not any of that. You pretend like it’s to help her when it’s actually to help YOU. If you actually cared that much about helping her out of her trauma, get her to therapy, ask a god damn professional what you can do to help her and if this is healthy for her. Don’t THROW OUT stuff which CLEARLY HOLD EMOTIONAL VALUE FROM HER CHILDHOOD and say you’re helping her Cus you’re not.

I know it doesn’t matter if it’s a man or a woman I meant that in relationships/ marriages you make sacrifices and compromises because you love the person, it meant a lot to him them both and future kids having his name, she wasn’t willing to compromise on taking his name even though it meant a lot to him, it’s not like she wanted to keep her name for any particular reason she just couldn’t be bothered to sort out changing it, if you love someone so much surely you could come to a compromise
