If Cottons actions in the Pacific don’t merit a Medal of Honor then I struggle to comprehend what does, hell I’ll write the citation myself. Rank and Organization: Private, U.S. Army, 6th Infantry Division, Colonel, Texas State Militia Born: 7 December 1927, Arlen, Tx Entered Service: December 1941 or January 1942, Arlen, Tx Accredited to: Texas Citation: For Repeated and Conspicuous acts of Gallantry and Heroism above and beyond the call of duty in action with the enemy while en route to the Pacific Theater September to November 1943. Private Hill, following the sinking of his transport vessel by Japanese Naval forces and with little regard for his own personal safety, attempted to rescue three and successfully rescued two of his fellow soldiers by dragging them through shark infested waters to the safety of a nearby island, in the process receiving numerous wounds from a Japanese Aircraft firing upon him. Upon reaching safety and in spite of his numerous wounds Private Hill ventured into the Jungle in search of aid for his wounded comrades stumbling upon 10 Japanese soldiers encamped near the position of his wounded. Knowing the imminent danger the enemy posed to the soldiers to his rear Private Hill ambushed the enemy and in the process had his legs irreparably damaged below the knees by Japanese machine gun fire. Despite these grievous wounds Private Hill continued his assault and dispatched the 10 enemy fighters in close quarters and without a weapon before falling unconscious due his wounds. Private Hill’s gallant initiative and heroic conduct in defense of his comrades and his nation are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Armed Services.

The thing I find funny about Cotton taking 50 rounds from a Zero, is that the primary armament of a Mitsubishi Zero are two 20 mm Type 99 Autocannons mounted on the wings. Apparently that is something you could just shrug off, but some small arms fire to the shins he could not.

The Zero did have two 20mm cannon in the wings, but had two .303 caliber machine guns in the wings as well. With a higher muzzle velocity, the machine guns had a longer range, so you could theoretically hit something with the machine guns while the cannon rounds fell short.

“They put 50 bullets in my back” The very next thing in the back of cotton shirt as fully intact. I fully believe that this is not animation error. Piggy has already proven that cotton can’t keep his war stories straight.

"I had to give them fatty" His story is probably exagerated, but he says those words with the full pain of someone with pstd. Cotton was an horrible person, but the war truly fucked him up for the rest of his life.

I like to think that he somehow managed to swim from (presumably) the USS Indianapolis. All the way over to the Philippines, just to have his shins destroyed.
@PaxJurassicus Жыл бұрын
Probably not. The USS Indianapolis wasn’t a troop carrier, and it also wasn’t the only American ship to be sunk in the war.

Hm, I finished reading John Costello's massive history book covering the Pacific War. I'm afraid this experience never came up anywhere in it.

I love how Cotton only tells this story in order not to be confronted by Hank about his behaviour. 🤔 Thanks for the upload! ❤

He DESPISES Vietnam vets. There's a whole episode about this. Also, there's like how many episodes where he talks about Nazis?

You know even if it was exaggerated he still would’ve had to gone through some crazy stuff in WWII to lose his shins

The Japanese did terrible things to captured soldiers. So much so that they where viewed as worse than the Germans. In their culture they can't surrender, so they viewed POW's as less than human.

While it’s very obvious he greatly exaggerated his war stories, in the episode where he has the hallucinations it seems like he was still dealing with some heavy PTSD and guilt from killing all the enemy soldiers.

Probably Cotton since we know he was in the war in a COMBAT capacity. His missing shins are proof. Meanwhile. Grampa Simpson was over in Europe wearing a dress to entertain Hitler.
