A lot of people don't even know about this song and it's a shame. It's definitely one of my favorites by him👍🏼

His singing gives me chills, what an amazing singer. It really does bring a person back to reality. The music we listen to today doesn't have the heart it used to.

I grew up on this song. My dad played the hell out of it when we were little, and I still LOVE Gordon Lightfoot. Thanks so much for posting this!!!

Lightfoot's Number 3 chart hit from 1962. It was his first hit record, 55 yeqars ago this year (2017) and he's still performing. An international folk- rock legend.

Infectious song. You can't help but smile and sing along...also, old Gord was pretty easy on the eyes, back in the day.

He opened with this song at the Twin River Casino in RI on July 31st (2009). Still going strong at 71. Gordon Lightfoot rules!!!

Such a wonderful folk singer. I have always loved his music and finally got to see him recently at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut. It is a small venue with about 500 seats and I was fortunate to be in the center of the front row. Enjoyed every minute. Time has taken its toll on Gordon as well as all of us, but it was great to finally have a chance to see him perform after being a fan for many years.

The first time I watched this years ago on PBS I was amazed Gordon kept singing when the audience began to clap. Every concert we went to before that he'd stop singing when the crowd started to do this and then he'd say "leave the driving to us." Guess he just had to give up after a while. LOL!

I just watched Frank Ifield sing this song and even though he is great and very eye-appearling, there was something missing from Gordon's song. Listening to Gordon just now pulls it all together! Thanks for the post.

Here's some obscure trivia for you: On this day in 1794 {March 14th} Eli Whitney received a patent for the cotton gin*, a mechanical device that removes the seeds from cotton and one of the key inventions of the Industrial Revolution... And just over 178 years later on April 1st, 1972 Anne Murray's covered version of the Gordon Lightfoot song "Cotton Jenny" would reach #1 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart and also peak at #1 on the RPM Country Tracks and RPM Adult Contemporary Tracks charts {peaked at #11 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart}... * The word gin is short for engine...

Did you ever find one of those artists where you like every single one of their songs? That's the way I feel about Gordon Lightfoot. A brilliant talent. My only quibble is that the years of smoking and drinking took a toll on the beauty of his voice.

This song is about my printing press they will take away soon. All my presses were called Jenny because of this song. Yep, they'll take her away soon, and I'll be crying, I'll be crying. I'm supposed to be going to another shop that bought our smaller shop, so I'll be going to a bigger plant. Don't even know how that's going to work out, but I'll be crying the day they take my Jenny away. I love you Jenny.

@mollieluna Just curious about this so I Googled it and I read that the parting was amicable and that Pee Wee (Ed Ringwald) shows up every night when Lightfoot plays his extended gigs ay Massey Hall. Also, I e-mailed Ed Ringwald (who the hell knows if it was the real Pee Wee Charles I was talking to) and he had nothing but great things to say about GL and his time with him when he replied.
