I blew out my elbow trying to learn carving…so I’m watching you and hoping I can hold a dermal while my elbow heals. I learned so much watching you. Now to find cotton wood ! Thank you

I just started a house without having any clue on how to actually make one. Watching this helped me with some ideas and the order of things. Looks great!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! I usually start with Pinterest to get ideas and look at different designs and then decide what features I want to include and work from there.

@@ddsworkshop4371 I was kinda doing the same thing. But knowing what should be on the front and what to push back was really hard to imagine based on pictures alone. I usually make faces, this is going to be my first attempt at a house. @roodborstcarving on instagram.

You are an incredible artist! I can’t wait to try carving since finding you. OhI know I won’t live to see the quality of workmanship you do, but I intend to have fun trying. Thank you so much, Mickey, an old lady Michigander.

Hi; Great job for first video. I really enjoyed watching you carve. It would be nice to see the final finished product. I watched another video the other day where an adjustable temperature woodbruner was used to make the rocks, shingles and siding boards. I don't know if it was easier to do than the gouges and a knife or not, but it worked well and didn't cause any chipping of the wood. You might want to experiment with one. Just saying, it might be a way to add additional effects in your carvings.

I am 3 years late to your video and I see you only have 830 sub's but I hope you are still doing videos mostly because your humanity of just being a regular guy not perfect it feels like you're just a friend showing me how to do a craft I'm trying to figure out. For a beginner like myself it's a more welcoming approach and it seems like I got a ton more understanding. Thank you

Thank you so much for this video. Very well done! Also, you have a nice listening voice, and I am so glad that you didn't use music. Great step by step instructions . I'm new to carving and am planning on giving the whimsical house a try. Your video cleared up some questions that I had. Please continue to post videos and I am hitting the subscribe button. ;) Ps... Nice job on the house!

Hi David, I just got to see your waterfall house 24 mins video, carved on a piece of cottonwood. Do you happen to have a video of how it works adding water? I am taking an applied design class at a college near by. One of our projects is to make a dream house. I thought of making a waterfall, that can be added water. I love your waterfall house so much, i may change my mind. Could i get some ideas of how to make my own? I can appreciate it. Ivonne 😊 🪵

I just came across this, awesome work. I noticed the chisels you use don't have wooden handles. Do you have a quick answer to why you prefer the none wood handled tools. Better feel or control maybe? Thanks for posting.
@ddsworkshop43713 жыл бұрын
The set did come with a handle that can be swapped between chisels, but for cottonwood bark I only really need to use it when roughing the outer bark. Once I'm working on the inner bark it's usually soft enough to use just the blade, then yes. I get much better control out of not using a handle. If I hit a hard spot or need to power through something then I'll put on the handle.

David, what type of Dremel do you use?
@ddsworkshop43713 жыл бұрын
I have a couple. I have a very old MultiPro with a flex shaft attachment, a Dremel 2050 Stylo, and a Foredom clone rotary tool. The Stylo is probably the most useful for these type of carvings. It's not going to rough out huge amounts of wood but it's really good on details.
