In Episode 326 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with Alex Velez-Green, the fmr. National Security Advisor to U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, who helped staff the senator on the Armed Services Committee and advised him on matters related to strengthening deterrence against China, including U.S. conventional and nuclear force structure and posture.
Alex and Demetri discuss the perilous situation in which the U.S. now finds itself in the Pacific, how it got here, and what is required to ready the U.S. military for a war against China in the next few years, and if we are lucky, deter it altogether.
The first hour of their conversation is dedicated to a discussion about the serious risks that the United States military currently faces in the pacific and why there is a real chance that the People’s Liberation Army will be able to defeat U.S. forces in a fight over Taiwan. This includes a discussion about Chinese intentions and the advancements that China’s military has made in the last several years, the consequences of losing a confrontation with China over Taiwan, and America’s ability to contain China once it has broken through the first island chain.
In the second hour, Velez-Green and Kofinas assess the state of America’s defense industrial base, what is being done to restock critical weapon systems and munitions, and how long it will take before the U.S. can feel confident in its ability to sustain a protracted war against China. In this context, they also discuss trade-offs between continuing to provide arms to Ukraine and delivering those same weapons systems and munitions to Taiwan in an effort to deter a Chinese invasion. They end the episode by reflecting on the legacy of foreign policy failures that have led to this moment, how we got here, and what needs to happen in order for the United States to prevail in what is likely to be the greatest national challenge the nation has faced since World War II.

Ukraine originally had a population of abt 50m, Taiwan 25M. Ukraine has had 500,000 dead + another 1m wounded/PTSD scarred. The parents of Chinese sons will send their son off to another country as soon as a hint of war is to break out for real. Further, China has a much larger amount of produced & stored arsenal/artillery than Russia.....And Taiwan's land mass is much smaller than Ukraine's. If the same level of deaths and traumatised infantry happens in Taiwan as Ukraine given the above, THERE WILL NOT BE A NEXT GENERATION OF TAIWANESE IF the FOOLS listen to the warmongering USA who has has a multitude of track record of abandoning their "silly allies" as soon as they are proven useless and less than effective. China no need to invade Taiwan. If China refuses to trade with Taiwan, the island will sink. The Chinese in the Mainland do not want their fellow Chinese in Taiwan to suffer. Hence no conquest. So true!!! If people would just read, they'll realize Taiwan is a Chinese province. It's well documented. US Administration is meddling because they know Taiwan is the redline for China. They want to stir up another proxy war in the Pacific. So the way to start a stupendous regional conflict is by encouraging Taiwan to declare sovereignty. If Taiwanese falls for it, US wins and this conflict has the potential of becoming WWW3. Let me acknowledge that US is a representative democracy. As a US citizen, I'm certain the Washington politicians do not represent my interests, but their own. By today's standard, I'm not sure who runs the country? The guest explained it very well and very openly, exactly why the US must interfere. "We care about Taiwan because we care about China"..."Power projection", etc etc..."Regional hegemony", etc etc. The US must remain the world's only superpower and China must not be allowed to become a global OR regional power, and Taiwan is their way of making sure of that. I think the people of Taiwan should really listen to this and listen carefully, between the lines. It really is the US intention to use Taiwan as a pawn. What the American experience in Afghanistan should tell us is that winning a war and keeping the territory you take is very difficult. This is reinforced with Russia's experience in Ukraine. Keeping hostile territory requires millions of soldiers and a long occupation. I think anybody who says that they know how a war over Taiwan will play out is kidding themselves. There are too many what-ifs involved. The Chinese will take this much more seriously than either the U.S. in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Vietnam or Russia in the Ukraine or Afghanistan, but they may be facing a much stronger opposition, by which I mean the United States and maybe Japan. No country goes to war competent-that develops over the first year of hostility. While the United States has the more experienced and, because of this, the more competent navy-and this will become evident early in a naval war-the U.S. navy is still going to be green in some respects because it hasn't faced a peer competitor at sea since 1943. Of course China hasn't been a top line naval power in modern history, until now. They have no naval experience, and they're not going to go to war just to get it. They will probably take more losses at the beginning of the war if the United States goes all out, but I think they are aware of this, and at this point they think that they can take those kinds of casualties and still count on support from the people. Taiwan's level of resistance is uncertain. Most thinking people in Taiwan understand that an invasion from the mainland would be a devastating experience for everyone on the island whether it's successful or not, but even those who believe a fight to be futile can nonetheless fight viciously. China should assume that resistance would be fierce, and the United States should assume that it would be tepid. If the war drags out, competence levels will equalize. At this point manufacturing will start to play a big role, and this gets really complicated. China currently has a huge edge in manufacturing capacity, even more so when it comes to ship building. I suspect the U.S. has a slight edge on aircraft production, which could be substantially increased if Boeing's civilian manufacturing arm were to be overhauled. China would be more vulnerable to blockades, but if they maintained good relations with Russia, they'd be impossible to cut off entirely. It would also be easier for the United States to attack Chinese manufacturing hubs than it would be for China to attack American manufacturing hubs, though if we're seeing these countries penetrate each other's borders, we may be looking at Armageddon.

@@liubang9375 If you read my whole post you'll see that I mentioned that very thing. I also said that nobody can expect to make an accurate conclusion because there are too many indeterminable variables, so therefore I made none. MacArthur wasn't fired for losing the war-he was fired for insubordination. MacArthur wanted to use nuclear weapons against China, and when Truman said no, MacArthur went to the papers. Frankly, I'm glad he got fired. I really don't want to see a war. I'd like to see a peaceful reunification. I think China might win a war by taking back Taiwan but that this will be at a terrible cost even at its most minimal. I think that if the U.S. "wins" such a war by defending an independent Taiwan, that it will only be temporary. A China that's thwarted in such an operation will lick it's wounds and prepare to strike again, and I don't think that the United States can stay strong enough to guarantee such a thing indefinitely. China will eventually become more powerful in the western Pacific than the United States and her allies. I think they are pretty close to that right now.

@@GenghisX999 I've read an English translation of "The Art of War". It's a little dry. I can't say I remember everything about it. The master speaks a lot about the importance of terrain, which I think works in China's benefit being that in the Western Pacific China's going to be better able to bring land and naval assets to bear. Terrain naturally favors the defenders in any kind of amphibious attack. He speaks about appearing weak when you're strong and strong when you're weak. This gets to your point about knowing your enemy and knowing yourself and winning a hundred battles without lifting a sword or some such thing. I think both sides are trying to show strength while at the same time hiding a few key assets. He advocates attacking when you're not expected and disappearing before the enemy can find you and retaliate. That's going to be tough, but, there are many things I don't know.

I find the guest's words 'Xi Jinping and his lieutenants" unacceptably disrespectful of China and the Chinese, and unbecoming of someone who wants to be taken seriousy, and as an objective commentator. Would he say Biden and his lieutenants? And this is how at least 90% of Americans would describe the president of China and his ministers. Also, at least 90% of Americans won't say the Chinese government. It's always the Chinese or Beijing "regime". Of course, many won't even say the Chinese president, but only "Xi", as if he is not the president of China. I suppose Americans think that as they could appoint Juan Guaido as president of Venezuela on behalf of Venezuelans, they could do the same with China, and strip Xi of his presidency. How incredibly arrogant, stupid, delusional and pathetic. In response, I always say "the Biden regime". With regards to Biden's lieutenants Blinken, Sullivan and Nuland, I call them war criminals -- I can justify it. I have for years wondered about this tremendous disrespect and hatred for China and Chinese leaders. Americans always say they loooove the Chinese people, but are against the CCP. The guest won't even say CPC, but sticks to the CPC, hated by the west. Well, I can confidently say that this (loooove the Chibese, but hate the CPC) is utter bullshit with American characteristics. Xi Jinping has, according to a Harvard University survey, an approval rating of around 90%. Americans think they can disregard the wishes of the Chinese people and still say they loooove the Chinese people to bits. And Americans don't seem to mind other people who don't practise Westminstsr style of democracy, people such as Zelensky (who has jailed opposition leaders and closed troublesome news channels), and the Nasie "Standing Ovation" Hunka. The Ukraine war, revealing the west's deep hatred for Russia, has finally showed me that the hatred for Russia and China has roots in racism, which the perfumed garden west is incredibly proficient in. Hunka was called a Canadian hero, and given a standing ovation for no other reason than he had fought Russia (and, of course, Russians). The jingoistic hatred for Russia and Russians that has swept the west (banning Russian music, athletes, illegally renaming Russian paintings, and hating everything Russian) tells me that this continent-wide hatred stems from racism. From time to time, I see in the comments section of video reports Europeans posters declaring that Russians are not Europeans. Ukraine's spokesperson (who is American) has said out loud to the world that Russians are Mongols, which is nothing if not racist. The west treats Russians as having been tainted by Mongol blood, and Russia as an Asiatic ill wind. If Russians, who are largely white and European, are treated in this racist way, what about the Chinese? The hatred for the Chinese is irrational, dishonest, arrogant and racist. My message to Taiwanese is that if the west will not put boots (combat formations) on the ground to save white Ukraine, what makes you think they will put boots on the ground to save you, people with yellow backside, like the mainland Chinese? Vivek Ramasamy, who is campaigning to be president of the USA, has said outright, in no uncertain terms, he as president would defend Taiwan (illegally, because Taiwan is part of China) until the US achieved chip independence, which he reckoned would be only a few years away. He got big appluase for this. The EU's foreign affairs lieutenant, Josep Borrell, borrowing the words of the neocon Kagan (husband of Victoria Nuland) has made it clear that the west is the garden, whereas the rest of the world is the jungle, where diseases and savagery reside. This is another way of dressing up racism.

I think your guest has a realistic view about the current military capability of the PLA about reuniting Taiwan by force if Taiwan declares independence. As most of you may not know, Taiwan can only store 12 days' of gas supply. People in Taiwan have enjoyed their life styles for a long time due to huge trade surplus with China (~$150B in 2021). Young men are used to the vacation-like military training. No one except a small fraction of the pro-independent extremists believes that Taiwan w/wo help from USA has any chance winning the battle against the PLA. The US government and media have been demonizing China and encouraging Taiwan to provoke China since 2016. The main reason is that Washington started to realize that China had become a competitor that may challenge Washington’s bullying behaviors around the world. Therefore, Washington’s China Hawks would really like the Pro-Taiwan-independence regime (DPP) to coerce the Taiwanese to fight the PLA to the last Taiwanese on the island (i.e.,Ukrainize Taiwan). If war breaks out, the USA can sanction China and rip the maximum benefit to keep China down without sparing even one US soldier's life. This US dividing policy has been very successful to the degree that DPP was able to spread the lies and hatred toward China in Taiwan to win elections in 2016 and 2020. The reason China turns hawkish toward Taiwan is that they are afraid of Taiwan declaring independence since USA seems to encourage that move (e.g., Trump called Taiwanese president in 2017, Pelosi provoked China by visiting Taiwan, Biden is selling lots of weapons to Taiwan and trying to turn Taiwan into Ukraine). The DPP also tore up the 1992 One China Consensus (in 2016) which served as the basis for the two sides to work out issues in a peaceful manner and to establish the trade agreement between the two sides. Indeed, under the 1992 Consensus, China and Taiwan had been able to build a very friendly relationship from 2008 to 2016. No one ever dreamed about having a war between China and Taiwan at that time. In fact, Taiwan has been able to enjoy $150 Billion/year trade surplus with China in recent years. As long as the new Taiwan government after the 2024 election is willing to re-adopt the 1992 Consensus and stay in the middle between China and USA, Taiwanese will be able to enjoy all the peace dividends and then some. They have no desire to become another Ukraine. Let’s hope that the people in Taiwan have the wisdom to throw out the current corrupted DPP and readopt the peaceful engagement with China. I am sure that everyone will breathe a sigh of relief. Finally, China has no military ambition towards anyone. The reason China’s economic activity is not as vibrant (still 5% GDP growth compared to 1.5% from USA) as expected earlier is because China is pursuing the upgrading their manufacturing value chains in EV, in battery technology, in semi-conductor, etc. since China is shifting the labor intensive supply chains to other 3rd world countries that can establish to raise their living standards. China would like to pursue a win-win policy towards all nations in the world as long as they do not spread lies and hatred towards China (e.g., spreading lies about the weather balloon, kidnapping Huawei's CFO).

I am very disappointed in the fact that such an informed analyst could be so WRONG on Taiwan issue. This is very funny if it is not so Dangerous. His fatal mistake is missing the key point that Taiwan issue is an unifinjhsed Chinese Civil War and hence treating Taiwan the same as Philippine. Taiwan to PRC is more important than North Korea in Korea War and North Vietnam in Vietnam War. The only reason PRC did not already start the War for Taiwan is because it did not have a Navy to defeat US. But PRC is willing to go nuclear war with US, but not for Philippine or Japan. So his point that if US loses Taiwan, PRC will do the same tp Philippine is totally unreasonable and dangerous. PRC would take these islands by force, but never Philippine main land. Everyone in US should understand CCP's ruling in China will be threatened if Taiwan declares Independence, but not Philippine Independence or Japan Independence. So US should pick a battle with PRC if unavoidable on Philippine or Japan, but not South Korea (because of North Korea), especially not Taiwan. For the same reason he reasoned PLA's modernization wrong. It started at 1996 when President Clinton sent two Air-carrier striking group to Taiwan to protect Taiwan during the Taiwan crisis caused by its 1st Election of its President (West treated this as Democracy. But PRC treated this as the first step toward Taiwan Independence.). Before that China was actually cutting military and focused only on economic development. After Clinton threatened the Reddest Red Line of PRC, Taiwan Independence issue, PRC started military modernization to deter US military, mostly Navy, involvement in Taiwan War.

Exactly right! Taiwan reunification as a consequence of resolving the Chinese Civil War is an internal Chinese issue, and that's how the vast majority of the world sees it. Both the People's Republic of China and Republic of China (Taiwan) recognize Taiwan as a Province of ONE China that they BOTH claim sovereignty over. The Taiwan question is a very clear Civil War situation. If China takes Taiwan by force, we can reasonably expect that the Global South will almost certainly support China in accordance with the One China principles that they have all agreed to, even if they have misgivings that it couldn't be accomplished peacefully. A better example would be Vietnam, which was a province of China for roughly 1,000 years. After many warnings, China invaded Vietnam in 1979, and comprehensively defeated them, opening the door to Hanoi, before pulling back to the border. China could have taken Vietnam but chose not to, because China was making it clear that they weren't to be trifled with. China showed they didn't have territorial ambitions. As for the Philippines, there are a handful of disputed islands, which are almost certainly Chinese territory per the post WW2 agreements and maps that the world generally recognized. China could (re-)take them by force, with a reasonable justification under historical agreements. The other Philippine islands are clearly recognized by China as Filipino, and it would be a huge shock if China were to take them.

The narrative always go something like this " Taiwan is a democracy and should have a right to separate if it wants !!! " Well, if that's the case, why did the West refuse to respect the democratic wants of Catalonia when it voted twice in a referendum to separate from Spain. Instead, the USA never lifted a finger to send its powerful army to defend Catalonia against Spain. To add insult to injury, the West actually helped Spain in applying force on the Catalonia in putting the Catalonian leaders in jail by helping catch them while they were under arrest warrant by Spanish forces and helped by European countries to catch the fleeing leaders. That's exactly the same situation as China and Taiwan, but now the West wants to interfere against China , how ironic, how hypocritical !!!

No, the point is that the current World Order is based on the status of nations starting around the time of the end of WWII. The date is somewhat arbitrary but is a logical starting point as the world started rebuilding from the ruins of hopefully the last world war. If countries could arbitrarily lay claim to land and territory based on historical maps of another time, there would be no end to disputes. If a country feels it has a really good case to be an exception, it can lay claim in an international court and argue its case because in the new world order everyone is supposed to agree to settle disputes by discussion, negotiation and if needed in a court of law. Most countries abide by this, but China is frustrated that its claims are generally disregarded and in any case China is an autocratic state that doesn't respect the law very much, viewing law as mostly a convenience when the law is agreeable and an inconvenience to be removed when it isn't.

@@tonysu8860 No Genius, the point of my post is to show how discriminative this current world order is. You have one set of rules that is applied in different ways for similar cicumstances and you're unable to make the distinction because you're used to that kind of corruption which favors the West. Look at Israel Palestine issue, that's pure Western corruption on display and the same applies to the Taiwan issue and the Ukraine issue. If that corruption helps the West maintain its hegemony , you sound like a partisan to it and behave tribally to defend it. That's what it is. The rules are in black and white but you are more than willing to bend the rules all the time. Case in point, genocide, apartheid, war crimes by Israel is not only tolerated but supported heavily with more economic and military support. Like they say, what goes around comes around. Ppl like you don't have a problem with Israel and American war crimes but are more than willing to apply those rules to Putin. Same with independence rules as I pointed out in my first post. More than 180 countries including the US have recognized that there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of China in the UN and only 15 countries recognized Taiwan as a country which consists of mainly island countries in the Pacific. Do some research on this especially the declaration by US President Jimmy. So why should China go to any international court? China and Taiwan actually benefited from its current status quo. They have been doing business for decades and Taiwan has a trade surplus with China and 30% of its economy depends on China.There are already 2 million Taiwanese and their families living and working in China. Many of them have been given permanent residence. Many Taiwanese actors and singers are also very active in China. Every Taiwanese big businesses have business interest in China. So why should Taiwan wants to be independent? Unfortunately the current DPP government is pushed by the US to declare independence. The US is scheming to fight a proxy war with China to the last Taiwanese, just like their proxy war with Russia to the last Ukrainian. From Taiwan survey, most Taiwanese wants the status quo. Only 6% wants immediate independence.They do not want to be the next Ukraine. Taiwanese are also Chinese people they are not stupid. But the trouble is, the US and the West do not ask what Taiwanese people wants and just say they will do this and that. That is the arrogance of the West and they think the world order is their world order. That is why the DPP lost the local elections last year by a landslide margin because the people do not want war with China. And that why Mr Mah the former President went to China to visit his hometown and declare that the Chinese and Taiwanese are the same people. @@tonysu8860

What this guy missed is the fact if Taiwan declares independence, PRC will start the war even if it would not win. The implication of this Fact is tremendous. He never considers the possibility of Taiwan declarers independence once US achieves the True ability to Defeat PRC's Navy force around Taiwan (this is they only chance to achieve Independence). This is the whole point of Strategic Ambiguity. So his suggestion of arming Taiwan and greatly improve the US force in the theatre is very dangerous for starting the war earlier.

my view is that the US has already given up trying to contain China .. Why? They are only interested to sell weapons. Create tensions, get their so called allies to arm and if possible get them to be "Ukraine " if not US will move on . Now they are position and somehow able to get the fools in Philippiines to fall into this trap... after which having PH destroyed they will move to India and make them their next "customers" All the time not single US soldier will die (which the American people will be ok) and make huge profits and GDP. At most China will blockade Taiwan and not a single country would dare to touch even a single Chinese ship there. My opinion. There will never be a war between China and US as you can see US itself knows it is no match for China thus having to form so many alliances and still impotent
@ZweiZwolf
@ZweiZwolf 6 ай бұрын
You have that backward. The US is rapidly losing the ability to defeat the PLA Navy in a Taiwan scenario, because China is gaining strength very, very quickly. The problem for the US and Taiwan is that China is the world's factory, and the world's shipyard. China has, by far, the largest and most sophisticated heavy industry in the world. They have the world's most advanced and most efficient infrastructure in the world. China builds more naval tonnage than any other country, more than the next few countries COMBINED. Every year, China accumulates more firepower of better quality and farther reach. In a few years, China will have an obvious advantage over the US Pacific Fleet, whereby China could starve and/or strike Taiwan into submission, regardless of US military efforts. America can read the writing on the wall, which is why they have pulled their ships back to Guam and are encouraging India, Korea, Australia, Japan and Taiwan to be the front line against China in the event of China resuming the Chinese Civil War. America is now hoping to sacrifice vassals as they've done in Ukraine, rather than fight China directly.

In terms of grand strategy, is the "Mission" with regard to Taiwan & containment of China, US global hegemony and full spectrum dominance? How is this a "vital" US interest? I think this conversation could have benefited from a constructivist angle, that is taking into consideration Chinese culture and history especially vis-à-vis the West (the opium wars involving both the UK and US and the "Century of Humiliation").. Everything I've read suggests that China's interest in unification with Taiwan is, quite apart from any regional hegemonic ambitions, an existentially national interest and one which China might be prepared to fight over despite the deterrence efforts of the US.

Another point about the discussion is: "What does China wants or What does Xi Jingping wants?" Well, what does that matter to military in USA? You should be concern if China is setting up a military base in Mexico or Cuba.

Setting aside the inherent hypocrisies, U.S. genuine interest has to do with keeping trade routes used by Japan and South Korea open. China probably wouldn't close those trade routes, but the possibility that they could spooks the U.S. and especially Japan. This takes it for granted that Japanese and Korean interests are also American interests, and for the sake of American credibility, that would be true. How many sailors, airmen, and marines we're willing to sacrifice for that slightly indirect national interest is a question worth considering. There is a long-term scare that if China isn't held back that they may eventually become the kind of giant that could do to us what Britain did to China 160 years ago. There's no indication that China would ever do this, and at this point I would call that paranoia, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

@joem0088
@joem0088 4 ай бұрын
@@moustaphadiallo600 "It's 2 completely different kind of logistics, 2 different kind of speeds and efficiencies." To elaborate: A vessel or a fleet (F) has limited supplies (food, medicine, planes, choppers, AD missiles, fuel, men ...) Imagine F = 40 ships CSG comes under attack inside the A2AD bubble of a continental power (C). C can launch easily twice the number of planes as F's air wing plus whatever island bases can add to the fight, followed by wave after wave of anti-ship missiles first decoys, low value, followed by high value missiles prob'ly over 100 in every wave (just as Russia launches >100 to UA in one wave). In such an encounter F will run out of AD missiles quicky. There will be attrition: 10% ? 80% ? whatever, you have to prepare for the next barrages, reload missiles etc but even if you have missile supply ship reload can only be done in day light and in very very calm seas. So more likely F, at least some of F has to return to base to refresh, repair etc Bases are Singapore, Guam, or Japan. That take your fleet, part or whole, out of action. In other word F has no "sea control", just a steaming target under the sword of C's superior firepower. On C side has no such problem. It has been preparing for this existential fight for decades. C has missile stock in the thousands and factories making them like sausages. He can reload, repair, rejig ... 24/7. And to chase an attrited fleet, C has its own CSG (carrier strike force). Brief, within C's A2AD zone fire power ratio is vastly over-whelming by design. C has high attitde sat surveillance to spot enemy fleet when it comes as close as 2000 km or when ships depart major naval bases. As the fleet gather they already know their types, numbers, firepower, and endurance, and will size its strike waves to over-whelm. In US simulations we see the fallacy of giving C very limited fire-power. A wave would coming in and the F's flagship was not hit so big cheers and "simulation says F won." But C can see the result in sat images instantaneously, and launch the next 2 bigger waves from direct directions at Mach 10 (ETA in minutes) ... and it will keep coming until the desired target is hit. This is why even in the Crusader's in the Levant days they say "a fleet is a fool to attack a forte". In Ukraine today, Russia has been taking out UA's AD systems in wave of missiles/drone and now NATO can hardly supply them ... because of the fire power and continuous production of Russia.

Taiwan because of its proximity to the 1.5 billion people Chinese market is linked closely to the mainland in both business and economic terms. Let’s assume there is no war or invasion the future economic and business integration will cause Taiwan to be heavily dependent on China to thrive economically. Looking in the long term Taiwan’s future is linked to China and the ASEAN region. The ASEAN region is not Western Europe it wants to maintain its autonomy and not have to choose sides in the current geopolitical super power competition and apart from the Phillipines is unlikely to form a NATO like alliance with the US in South East Asia. The ASEAN countries want stability and peace to further develop their economies and improve the standard of living of their citizens and fighting a war with China is furthest from their minds. They would prefer to settle the South China Sea disputes through collective negotiation with China and diplomacy no matter how long this takes.🤔

The Chinese military is becoming increasingly good at the same time that the US weakens year by year. It is a myth that people in China and those in its territory Taiwan willingly would ever want go to war. It would be like California declaring war on the rest of the US. However, it is not impossible that America could provoke China enough into defending its territory of Taiwan. It would be ideal that the US starts a war with China through Japan and Korea which would suffer most of the consequences. This would weaken China/Korea/Japan, but supposedly strengthen America and its arms industry, so America wins! But this is a pipe dream. America is totally not capable of sustaining and winning a war against China (and its ally Russia). The US would have to withdraw just like it is going to have to do soon in Ukraine, even though it make a lot of money off the war. Americans are no longer has a credible fighting force. China Has no interest in sacrificing this, where as the USA might well decide that it is well worth doing so to prevent it falling into China's hands. And would have no compunction in destroying their entire high tec industry. The USA only considers Taiwan at all, in terms of preventing its technology falling into China's hands. When the American people especially seniors have so many priority needs, it is a shame that egotistic interference in China’s domestic affairs would be given priority over American constituents needs for food shelter safe bridges and necessities. Interference will lead to disaster! Please help to communicate this.

Any interference in Taiwan will lead to worst than a bad situation similar to 19:16 the Vietnam war. It is better to relocate the individuals US want to save to US rather than waste more American lives and resources in a no-win conflict for US. Why does US need another defeat? All the failed wars including Ukraine have wasted Americans life savings.

What if the truth is that China does NOT have “hegemonic” ambitions? Your type of misperception leads to wasting American lives and resources Americans do not have. Not prudent or wise to fight an unnecessary war on Smerican credit card when Americans’ credit card are already in default…

🎵🌹👍The war in Taiwan involves psychology: the people thinks in Chinese and not in white Americanism. 🍜☕🍰The language in Taiwan is Chinese 🇨🇳💰 The economy of Taiwan depends heavily on China. 40% of the export is to China 🎶🙏🍷👍 The culture in Taiwan, in poetry, in music , in songs , in movies.... Really. Taiwan is a province of China. It is agreed by the Americans and the UN. So if America would not supply arms to Taiwan then there would be no conflict. America creates the conflict.

Why the unification of Germany was widely acceptable but Taiwan's problem is not acceptable? Taiwan is part of China, which is recognized by the entire world and the US. In this case, we should not even use the term of unification, we have to accept the present condition that Taiwan is inseparable, part of China, and the final decision belongs to 1,4 billion Chinese, but not to outsiders and a few rebels. Why these people are so passionate about creating another scenario of Ukraine if the problem can be resolved peacefully.

What is the goal of a war over Taiwan? How much more taxpayer dollars will it take to defend an Island that is China? Will it end in nuclear catastrophe? Will anybody do anything to end homelessness (veterans too) and poverty in America? Or being the world shot caller (parasite) is numero uno?! Not for my house.

The US has a much shorter history, lucky to be in an isolated continent with very weak neighbors, not having the collected memory/experience of many other countries/people, including Chinese, such as multiple invasions by foreigners, slaughtered to almost extinction many times in history, land severed or violently taken away by other people, Americans just couldn't understand the Chinese desire to have an united nation, just like most people won't understand why would some people so fixed at having Jerusalem back. It's not that you don't know the history, you don't understand it and probably don't want to understand it.
