I had an idea about how Poirot could solve Death Comes as the End, but it's so ludicrous I would be thrown out of any and all Agatha Christie clubs: It was ALL A DREAM. "Oh my dear Hastings.... it was all so REAL... I was in Ancient Egypt and... I, Hercule Poirot.. solved a murder!" And all Hastings can say is.... "Good Lord, Poirot." OK, I'm ready for the ridicule. LOL.
@summationgathering2 ай бұрын
Lol. Hasting's is more likely to dream that up than Poirot.

@@summationgathering That would be a way to make it into a movie though! Hastings dreaming up a case while high of a fever in Egypt. 😅

@@AmarisFrede That actually could work because there's the short story the Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb where they do visit Egypt.

As for the Beresford novels, Hastings could do something useful by knowing about the spelling of Tuppence. Miss Marple would immediately be onto the significance of Vanda Polonska, and Mrs Oliver would get it tight on a wild guess. I think both Poirot and Miss Marple would catch the Yorke/Lancaster clue; he would have studied history (Mrs Oliver seems a truly natural fit here replacing Tuppence). Postern of Fate I'd have to reread.

The one's I readn(I have only read Miss Marple and the 13 problems, so this list includs Poirot: 1. Secret Adversary: Agree. 2. And then there were none: Agree, Poirot would at best have a really time solving it. And as far as I know, this one is easy for Marple, at least with the rules appied. They would both surely solved it if they were on the island. 3. Towards Zero. Agree, hard one for Poirot, but he can. And if Battle broke Neville, Marple would slash him. 😂 4. Crooked House. Agree. 5. The Pale Horse. This one is hard for Poirot, but he solved The ABC Murders, so yeah, agree. Very good video. It shows how good of a writer was Christie, I can only dream.

Imagine Miss Marple on the island. Completely in control of herself as everyone around her gets murdered.

Pity that you didn't swap Miss Marple for Bundle. I would have loved to see her hiding in a cupboard, drinking a cocktail. ;-)

That would have been spectacular. Miss Marple does have a niece Mabel in one of the short stories but she's a different character.

Osborne is a mere Mr, as addressed or talked about - or informally referred to as Osborne - pharmacist, not a doctor. One of your rare glitches. And Miss Marple would have fitted perfectly in Murder is Easy - similar milieu to Moving Finger.
@summationgathering2 ай бұрын
I made two rare glitches in this video. As someone else pointed out, I called the murderer in the Sittaford Mystery Captain Trevelyan who is actually the victim.

I think Poirot and Miss Marple both solve Death Comes as the End. Neither one of them is going to fall for the superstition nonsense of it's a vengeful ghost doing the killing. And only Yahmose was there when his wife died.
@summationgathering2 ай бұрын
They are not going to fall for the supernatural, no. But I'm not really sure there is anything for them to make conclusions from. There really aren't clues in this book.
@margaretalbrecht46502 ай бұрын
@@summationgathering The boy that died was Yahmose's faithful servant. All the deaths benefited Yahmose. Miss Marple would definitely understand Yahmose's psychology. And, by the end, so many people have died, Yahmose's the only one who fits. In your scenario, they don't have to have proof for a court of law. They just have to figure it out.
@summationgathering2 ай бұрын
@margaretalbrecht4650 Yeah thats very true. I could see Marple voicing a hesitant opinion since no one is alive. The stakes are lower.
@AgathaVandeCamp2 ай бұрын
As Death comes as the end, out of 18 Christie novels I read this one was the easiest to solve. I agree there were no exact clues to the mistery, but there were a lot of red herrings. And noone was really able to murder Satipy except Yahmose so that was a pretty big giveaway for me.
@summationgathering2 ай бұрын
That's very true. However, I just think Poirot and Marple would be hard-pressed to come to that conclusion given the scenario I put them in. Miss Marple especially is unlikely to make an accusation without being 100% sure.
@Sebastian-lw5qb2 ай бұрын
I think Poirot would have solved And Then There Were None at least in the sense, that he could guess whodunnit. He is good friend with the police. They would give him all the information about the ten cases. He would soon deduce, that Wargrave was the only innocent one of the ten victims and also the one, who had the best chances to get all these informations, and therefore most likely has to be the murderer.
@summationgathering2 ай бұрын
I don't know if Poirot would look at those ten guests and conclude Wargrave is innocent so it must be him. I don't think that's Poirot's thought pattern here. But you did bring up a pointed I neglected that Poirot could do investigations into the guests' movements before they arrived on the island. While the police in the book didn't do that, I don't know. This actually sounds like a task Poirot would hire Mr. Goby for.

I more or less agree with your assessments here... one related video I might be interested in seeing would be your take on Poirot and Marple working together on a case. I realise Poirot might be a bit dismissive of Marple, but that could really add to the story. So which case would be best for them to work on together and how might it pan out? This strays into fanfic territory I guess, so might not be your thing.
