Maine Coons are a pretty phlegmatic cat, so I don't know about being a playmate for Key. My family had one at the same time they had 3 Great Danes. The cat would just lay on the arm of the sofa next to the passage between the living room and kitchen. The dogs (and the 3 Danes were just the biggest of the lot, they had 9 dogs in total, all at least mid-sized) were terrified of the cat. Watching them try to go from the LR to the Kitchen or back was hilarious, it was practically a commando operation, because they never knew if the cat would just casually reach out and try to hook them in the face for fun. The cat wasn't mean, but did insist on his personal space being respected, and dogs were second-class citizens to it.
