If you reduce debt it'll shrink the economy because the government has a debt to the central bank it's not a loan. They have to reduce money in circulation which can lead to a great depression.

@russellapplegate5661 the US is way off a currency crisis and is among the countries with the lowest inflation in the world but unfortunately the risks of a global market is it is sensitive to global events so some inflation no country can account for, in this circumstance either the private sector eats the pain or they pass it on to the consumer which they have done. The problem with elon is he is basing his logic on a theory with too many uncontrolled variables and also has a clear conflict of interest it was bad with the current crop of politicians this is just that on steroids.

@@russellapplegate5661 the annual deficit in the US needs to be in the negative to decrease the debt otherwise you're just adding to the debt at a slower rate and it achieves nothing. The government has to make money as a stand alone entity seperate from the US economy that means raising taxes, cutting government contracts, reclaiming natural resources to export and make money on in order to clear government debt. In short the US economy has to shrink to clear out the money the government has put into the economy which is why it's such a bad idea because can you imagine americans being happy when 1. They have to pay more taxes, and prices go up anyway. 2. They lose a lot of the programs and benefits the government offer putting them into poverty. 3. Companies with government contracts lose them putting people out of jobs.
