With the addition of Yaroslav Askarov, could Vitek Vanecek or Mackenzie Blackwood be traded by the San Jose Sharks before the season starts? IMO the odds are that the Sharks will not move either of their two goalies until the trade deadline. As much as I love Askarov, after GMMG's press conference and what I know of Askarov, his chances of being on the Sharks roster is about 40/60. Not that Askarov could not be inn a backup role this season or that he could not beat out the two they have (Vanecek and Blackwood) and become the starter. IMO the Sharks are going to want to have their two veteran NHL goalies play enough to know which is better. They just traded for both so why would they move them before they know which of the two is better? Entering camp IMO Blackwood has the edge and is the number one goalie. Vanecek is the backup because of his experience and Askarov is the third goalie. GMMG stated in his press conference that he is open to starting the season with three goalies. The odds of this happening is very slim. IMO the reason GMMG said this is because he does not plan on moving either Blackwood or Vanecek before the TDL. IMO the Sharks will move one of their two veteran goalies at the TDL if they believe that Askarov is ready for the NHL. By that time they will have a better idea of two things: 1) whether they should keep Blackwood or Vanecek and 2) if Askarov is ready to play significant NHL minutes. IMO Askarov did not want out of Nashville because they were not going to give him NHL games this season, it was because he had no path to the the guy for seven years, and he believes in himself being talented enough to be a number one goalie in the NHL. It is definitely possible Askarov starts or that one of the veteran goalies is traded before the TDL but I find it unlikely. Vanecek was injured at the end of last season and teams will want to see him play before trading for him. For the Sharks end of it, they are not going to start Askarov or trade one of their veterans before they know where Asakarov is in his development. It is one thing to watch tape or attend games, it is another have hands on work with him every day. After they have him for a couple months, watch him play games a bit, ask him to make adjustments and observe how he reacts they will know what they actually have. Then they can make a judgement call IMO. They could trade one of Blackwood or Vanecek before the season and get an AHL veteran goalie but they would need an offer that is hard to refuse before they would do it IMO, for the reasons I stated above. Either way, the Sharks are in the drivers seat with goalies now and it will be fun to see what they do in the future.

Honestly, the Avs should look to trade with the Pens. Moving Georgiev and Nichushkin for Jarry and Rakell or Rust.
