I visited family in Argentina when I was about 11 years old and I remember my grandfather would tell me this one little hut/shed on his land was off limits and one day some cousins and I were playing futbol (soccer) close by when one of my cousins dared me to go inside the hut and it was a bunch of old artifacts like a disc record player, some old telephones with the wheel thingy, and oddly enough some pictures and flags which looked to be in/from Germany since the symbols were very similar to the ones from WW2 (keep in mind, at the time I had no idea since I had not yet taken a European history course) but I remember seeing the cross, the swatzika, and some eagle shaped figurines. It didn't hit me until a couple years later after I learned about European history and WW2 that I realised how suspicious those objects were. Ever since I've been real suspicious of my great great grandfather since when I used to ask him about his early life he seemed to space out and forget.😬

On another topic, I am mostly German. Persons on, technically, all three sides of my family came from Germany four to six generations ago. My biological maternal grandfather is German, and actually looks a lot like me. The man who took his place, one who I actually know, and is surprisingly similar to me, is in the first generation of his family not to learn German. I believe his grandparents brought their family to America from Germany. My maternal grandmother is also in the first generation of her family to not learn German. Her father's family was English, and her mother's family was German. There is French in there somewhere, too. I think it is on her mother's side, which actually had a crest that was greeted with bows in France, as recently as the 1920s. My paternal grandmother was German and Irish. Nobody really knows what is going on with my paternal grandfather. He claims that his father was pure Mexican, but a DNA test found that his daughter, and thus her siblings, were only 2 percent Mexican. This limits him to 4 percent Mexican, and makes me only 1 percent. My dad was not surprised by the findings. None of us look Mexican, despite our last name. We all look German. My dad also says that his father makes up a lot of stuff. Many of my relatives are from Wisconsin and South Dakota, where there are many Germans.

For those who don’t know Terezin was both a concertration camp and a transit camp. The Jewish people who were sent to Terezin primarily came from Czechia, Germany, and Austria though there were many others from Denmark and the Netherlands. Terezin also served as a transit camp from which those sent there were sent to their deaths in death camps further east primarily in Auschwitz but also to the Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka killing centers. In 1944 impending a visit by the Red Cross the Nazis briefly suspended deportations to Auschwitz and beautified the camp in a attempt to fool the Red Cross. Upon their visit to the camp the Red Cross was successfully tricked. After their visit ended the deportations to Auschwitz resumed. There were over 140.000 Jewish people interned in the camp and of those some 88.000 were killed upon being deported to Auschwitz or other killing centers and another 33.000 died inside the camp. Approximately 23.000 Jewish people survived Terezin with 17.000 being liberated in Terezin and another 4.000 who were deported but survived deportation.
