​​@@LongliusConsidering how the collective internet consciousness used to (and a few pockets still do) unanimously dunk on AMD GPU drivers, I would say Intel actually did really well. Making GPUs was ALWAYS going to have a messy launch for Intel, and honestly I think if Alchemist launched 6 months sooner it could have been massively more successful, but unfortunately for Intel (and luckily for us) the hellscape that was the PC component market was already starting to return to not entirely cancer around 2022. With the market pressure letting up Intel went from this mythical figure that was supposed to rescue reasonably priced gaming to the 3rd guy who showed up to the party after the rest of the group already killed the boss and got the loot.

The hardware they made was actually very very good and had plenty of potential to be as powerful as NVIDIA it was software that let it down unfortunately 😔 but it got pretty good in the end ETA prime channel proves that in several different videos showing the progress and frankly still has plenty of power still to give.. so it's still not reached its top potential and it will be abandoned for battle Mage 😢 hopefully Intel open source the driver software so the community can have at it so we can see how far it could have gone.

I agree about the HL3 thing. I was always under the impression it was going to be a HL Episode 3 not a full game itself. A third episode would mean that not much would need to be improved upon gameplay wise, it would be more of a dlc. But it would at least finish the story which is the whole thing we all wanted.

that's true, but having just finished it Valve devs kinda did all of it in the opposite order. Build a bunch of experiences, then write a story to connect everything. They couldn't figure out all the experiences and didn't have the stability they have now to feel comfortable pushing out something they deemed inferior. "People already didn't enjoy the episodes as much as HL2 or 1". And the devs were kinda done working on that same thing for 8 years. I'd much rather have a good story that isn't finished than a good story that ends shitty. I wouldn't wish the fate of GoT on anyone

@@AT-HX PSVR2 actually works insanely well. Outside of an occasional flickering black bar across the screen that's fixed by taking a screenshot it's so flawless I'm actually surprised whenever I see articles about how rough it is to set up on PC. If an Arc user is basically just plug-and-play you have zero excuses for struggling with the set up. Of course, some stuff doesn't work still. Minecraft VR outright refuses to work on any GPU made by Intel, annoyingly, but still, it's way better than I expected.

In No Mans Sky, my glasses are not recognized by Steam VR and the game starts on the monitor instead of on the glasses. HL Alyx crashes after the intro in the elevator. Fortunately, the game can be played again from chapter 2 onwards. However, I'm still a VR newbie, maybe I can still find solutions.

It's not that they didn't finish it. They hadn't even start producing it yet because so many developers were fatigue working for Half-Life. They were stuck with the concept and prototype and then caught busy with other projects. Their mistake was not returning to the project when they had the opportunity to continue right after they shipped Left 4 Dead.

The A770 luna OC card I've been testing can go up against my 6800 XT in basically every title at 1440p120 high/ultra if they have a solid application of XeSS or FSR with or without frame gen (being used on both cards). You could argue the A770 is 2 years newer, but it has low spec in almost every category, and it's sub 300 bucks versus the sub 600-700 the 6800XT was at launch. The downside of most PC people, especially GPU/gamers, is that they either see synthetic benchmarks or 1080p Low tests nobody cares about. The approach that seems to be doing well with the A770 right now is leveraging upscaling and 16GB of fast VRAM to punch way above its price point. If they could make a B770 (or whatever the top spec would be) that can brute force performance on synthetics to at least tie with a 4070 while having the more mature drivers and doing well with XeSS/FSR to get numbers above that in games, all for like 400 USD, then they might have a winner... well, a winner in real world applications. Again, the issue is most PC people, much like camera nerds who have never had a paying job in their life, but act like pros with 4000 dollar camera bodies, just buzz over benchmarks and specs instead of real world experience. I guess people have forgotten that the first gen new AMD RDNA GPUs were fairly weak with similar immature drivers. Within a year or two, drivers matured for the new hardware and the 6000 series/later 5000 series cards were fine (or I'd argue great in the case of the 6800 XT that I got 2 years ago for like 500 bucks that still performs solidly in everything I ask it to do (plays Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p120 locked Ultra, that's all I care about "top end.")). In the case of Arc, there's also that very few big influencers that control the fate of some of these lines, thanks to viewers taking their words like lemmings, didn't bother to go back and retest the cards with more mature drivers. When they did, it was again mostly synthetic loads that still were meh, or without leveraging current upscaling/frame gen. They have a chance to win a market that would save a LOT of people money. That is to say, focus on midrange hardware while keeping the fast 16GB of vram instead of 8gb of whatever. Then leverage advancements in driver optimization and XeSS/FSR gains by working with developers to make sure the Arc specific XeSS is properly implemented on both ends while also hopefully releasing a solid version of XeSS frame gen they've mentioned. I'll take a lower wattage midrange 400 dollar card that has enough raw power (and matured drivers) to handle older titles while also being able to give me 1440p120 on games I play. I'm not saying Arc cards were great, the A580 I had at launch was more often weak than not (and I eventually gave it to a friend who needed a card for editing, and it worked for them), but the current A770 Luna 16gb OC card I've been testing from Sparkle would already be fine for me as my daily in like 95% of things compared to launch. I found similar gains with the A380 low profile card I did the single slot mod on. If the CPU and manufacturing divisions didn't make chain monumental screw-ups, Arc would have time to mature and come into its own.

Honestly i can't wait for android laptops, that would be huge, the package management, the ecosystem, everything about android is so mature and usable and familiar, it just needs some minor touchups. I think it has a lot of potential

If Battlemage high end model G31 can beat a 4070 Super and be cheaper it'll be an instant purchase for me. I really hope Intel can deliver. The performance from their Xe2 140V iGPU looked promising. They need to price competitively. Alchemist was too expensive in almost all markets outside of the US. They can take some of the low and mid range marketshare from AMD if they just price properly worldwide

@lexecomplexe4083 A770 was over £300 in the UK. You could get 6700 XTs and 6650XTs for that much at the time. They were faster. Both had much more stable drivers and far far greater game support. It was overpriced for the performance and user experience you got. It's only now they're priced reasonably here but that's probably them wanting to clear stock before BMG. If BMG performance falls below expectations but they still price it above faster cards from AMD then it's already gonna be DOA

Controversial take on this….a decent Chromebook can and should be used as a development platform. This is absolutely not trolling, I use my old Chromebook for Python development and it just works. It’s actually quite fast for it having a lower spec CPU.

I was planning on getting a new PC Build in January and I'm so happy to see current gen getting fisco tinued before the next gen arrived. I'm so happy that RTX 40 series is going to be either boight out or surge to insane prices like 7800X3D did, and 50 series being prohibitively expensive (either through MSRP or scalping). I guess I'm just gonna wait until GPUs are in stock and just put in my old 1060 6gb to a build with 9800X3D and 64GB of RAM lmao
