Apologies for some sound problems on Nathan's end this week
Off the mark in League One, out of the Carabao Cup in Round One, and a £500,000 club record transfer, a very normal week in the land of Wrexham.
Rich and Nathan unpack the first two matches of the season, discuss how best to use new signing Ollie Rathbone and whether Wrexham need any further additions before the window closes on August 30.
There's also a Bolton perspective with Ben from Trotter Chatter podcast.
All that and more in Episode 185 of RobRyanRed.

George Dobson plays with so much product in his hair that I fully expect a "STOP OIL" protest at some point during the year!

Dobson is class. Easier transition for Parky to start because he has managed him before. Thanks for the pod.

He's constantly offering for the ball which always gives defenders an outlet under pressure. Mainstay in this midfield

My favourite Wrexham player is Paul Mullin and, when he is fully fit, he will set this League on fire🔥

Would like to hear if Rich updated his opinion on Revan after the Bolton game!

With parky playing a back 3 not sure where o connell and scarr fit in, only one will so the other will be warming there hands on the bench. Revan struggled to adapt to parkys set up as wing back and did not know whether to go or stay leaving boyle exposed loads. Work in progress. Need at least one striker in , hopefully 2 and let a couple out the door if possible as up front is where we really lack quality signings which we need. Our current firepower will not get us in the play offs, so over to parky.

having watched wrexham its going to take time to gel. however i think dalby is way off what wrexham need upfront, brunt will improve but needs time. boyle is far better on set piece than actual defending . revan has a far higher upside and will improve. would love to see cadamatri will fit in well in my view , special mention to dobson , cleworth ,barnett and marriot put in great performances.Rathbone is an excellent addition and clearly going to have a big impact.

Rathbone looks a shrewd bit of business but twice he's been used as one of the front two and that doesn't seem to click. Surely a stop-gap solution while they work Mullin back to form/recruit another forward

I think they should sign Ollie Palmer for two more years. If Wrexham were already in the Champions League, I might have agreed with you to let him go, but if he goes now, he's going to be playing against you in league one. And there's no guarantee mike smith or any other player will play like Palmer and push back the defense to open up space for Mullin and Lee. They tried that last year, putting Fletcher in the line-up and after a while, all the fans were saying 'get Palmer back in there'. Good video discussion! 👍

It's an interesting one. The club have already handed out a fair few contract extensions to those out of contract at the end of the season and yet it's radio silence so far on OP. He had to do a lot of the dirty work against Bolton but it is hard to shake the feeling that the club aren't actively trying to recruit his replacement. OP's situation will get a lot clearer once the transfer window closes at 11pm on August 30

Also we sat back in many away games last season and dug deep , we cant do it this season we will be punished, be nice to actually go away and get on the front foot or try for once and make sure we got two up top , not the one and be a pain in the ars* for bolton. We cant afford to drop deep against bolton, go toe to toe with them and look to get the wingbacks forward and on the front foot for a change when we away.

Dobson was heavily culpable for Wycombe's 2nd goal - got totally bullied by Udoh, who grabbed Dobbo and used himvto trap Okonkwo on the goal line.

You guys are a nice football fix for me 🇨🇦 to listen to between scheduled games ✅ who in the organization makes the important decisions on how much to pay or transfer fee for a new player?

Who decides is something neither the owners nor the club have officially said some snippets have come out in W2W, fan podcast events and other interviews on podcasts. However, even though the club don't publish specifics about the recruitment process we can give a good guesstimate - but you must remember this is all built from info gleaned via podcasts and historical general info relating to player transfers so could be a bit wide of the mark: Parky and his team select targets and discuss these with Shaun Harvey and the Ownership. It is likely that upper limits are mentioned here. Any contact with a player contracted to a club must first be approved by that club. It is possibly a recruitment agent acting for us, or Shaun Harvey himself, that initiates this contact. Once that club agrees to our approach we will agree financial terms with that club. Only then are we allowed to talk to the player or their personal agent (as opposed to any agent representing that club). At this stage Parky can talk with the player. Positive contacts will mean our agent or Shaun Harvey will negotiate personal terms with the player's agent. Any breach of internally agreed transfer fee or wage demands will likely go back to the ownership for sanction. Only now will the player be brought to the club for a look around, be subjected to a medical and, if all is OK, sign their contract. Normally only day to day stuff would be under the CEO. However the Salary Cost Management Protocol for League One limits playing staff wages to 60% of income and the EFL have to be updated at least a monthly basis on the projected season's spend and club income. This means the CEO will have to be in the transfer decision loop, if only for informational purposes, because they will be the ones preparing the operating budgets and forecasts. This is needed because, before the season starts, the EFL are given, and must approve, projections for the spend for the coming season and must be given regular updates to sanction spending during the season. If at any point the club forecast a wage spend within 5% of the figures will be scrutinised more closely. If this shows we are on course to exceed the 60% spending limit, the EFL will apply a Transfer Embargo (NB the club doesn't have to overspend to incur the embargo, it only needs to shown to be heading for an overspend). As I said previously this is based on general historical footballing info, podcast snippets and a bit of guesswork. The best illustration of the process I know of is seen in 'Sunderland 'Till I Die' season 2, episode 4; episode titled 'Playing Poker'

A very, very good summary of how it all works. Harvey is key to contract negotiations but Rob/Ryan will ultimately be tasked with signing off various fees
