In the USA, government is not de-facto accountable to the public at present. It would be an oversimplification in causal terms to state that this is because our currency is controlled by private interests rather than the government, yet at the very least such a condition precludes public government. I wish more people understood this. Presumably, this goes for the UK as well. The powers that be can always replace politicians, I'm sure it's not a problem for the status quo if a few end up in jail. The American (and the British) public need to understand this, otherwise they are politically impotent, as democracy is subverted with figurehead politicians and celebrities who have no purpose except to run interference on behalf of various private interests and keep the levers of power safely out of the public's hands.

It would be nice if justice prevailed and those responsible held to account. But the US, UK and its allies have been involved in similar atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere. Lets not forget those were illegal wars (especially Iraq) where hundreds of thousands of covilians were killed and terrible atrocities commited. But no one was held accountable. Only the whistle blowers. Unfortunately, I dont think this is going to be any different. If the ICJ was to truly rule on the side of justice it would be a stunning turning point in the world. It would be the biggest decision in the history of international law given it involves Israel and by proxy US, UK and their allies. Edit: i think by saying "similar" above I have inadvertently reduced the level of atrocities in Palestine. What happened in Iraq and Afghanistan were war crimes but not genocide so this is far worse.
