Besides would, used to be is being regularly used to talk about past habits. In fact used to be is mostly used for presenting past habits. However, there is some variation inthe usage of would and used to be as per grammar rules. I would Like to hear from you on the disimilarities in the usage of both When talked about past habits. I would say, most of us have been glued to our mind thatcould, would and should are used in past tense only from academic level. I would request you to impress upon the listeners that these modal verbs are used In Present tense mostly especially in spoken English. The past tense of these are not common except in the case of past habits, indirect Sentence, passive voice etc. It is deep rooted in minds of many that it can't be used in present tense.
