what is the point doing all that investigating and just give them a slap on the hand and a council flat for their trouble. send them to prison and make them pay back ALL the profit from their crime. it's a crime treat it like one, that is way they still do it because they know nothing will happen.

When you get 75% subletting then its time to make it a deportation offence. One family were using a different identity and different area of the middle east to obtain a property in six different boroughs. They made enough to buy a two million pound house from subletting the council houses out.

people who move out of their council home and sublet it should not only have to pay back what the council paid them, but they should have to pay all the rent the tenant they rented to back to tenant, they were being bilked of that money fraudulently so should get it back so they can hopefully find a place to rent IF UK started making these people pay every penny back that government gave them toward housing and benefits they were not living in and give the people they rented to all that money back, then maybe this problem would stop happening or at least slow down, but to just give them a suspended sentence and slap their hand is so stupid - even unpaid work is nothing

These council officials are too full of themselves, thinking they are the police, demanding entry and cautioning people. Councils should simply charge market based rents. This would remove the incentive to sublet, abolish the waiting lists, allow for the Council Tax to be reduced or abolished, and cut out the cost of collecting the Council tax and paying Council Tax benefit. PS what a real asshole that the not-fat one is. The mistake the occupiers made was to open the door.

Suspended sentences when they've ripped the tax payer off for 150k. What kind of deterrant is that? I'd be tempted to try it if that's as bad as it gets. And why is it foreigner always seem to get these properties. I know Brits that will never stand a chance of social housing & they languish in insecure private rents.

No. It is considerably cheaper than private rent and the tenancies are for life ( as long as they dont cause themselves to get evicted).

Here in the US, welfare doesn't pay anywhere near as well as it does in Britain. Our government knows that the usual people will take advantage of the system and avoid work for as long as possible. If you keep people poor and hungry, they will move on and get employment. Of course, the employment they find is often nefarious, so we have an elaborate justice system to reward them. If Britain spent less on social welfare, they'd have more money for weapons and war like we do! 😝

What a powerless job full of hope. £150k fraud and all they get as a worse case scenario is 200 hours community service? Be right back, making a quick call to my family in Nigera........They're landlords like all the private landlords that have to rely on hope and luck to control their assets. No wonder landlords and people in general are moving away from the UK. It's just not worth it thanks to having zero power or control.

why calling the police? up to now its the first time you called the police on this program! is it because they are asians? fair enough they defrauded the council, but the RULES should be the same for everyone , worse case in this show who own hses and 2 council flat and well paid jobs , you let them go with comunity service and the left country to leave abroad without repaying anything or getting police involved😠

I suspect that the vast majority of the general public don't know that essentially everything the police can tap into eg. bank accounts, and the owners' addresses, likewise the local authority is doing the same. They even establish who the Royal Mail are delivering letters to at the address. So beware of doing what I did (when I claimed 25% single occupier's discount on a former privately owned house) namely allowing your ex to use your home as a mailing address because she was travelling. My experience was that unless an ex is paying U.K. council tax elsewhere they simply won't believe the truth you tell them vis a vis who occupies. They regard a mailing address as a residency! Invite them to physically inspect the property and don't be surprised if they simply shrug their shoulders. If they suspect anything untoward with regards to occupancy or payment of council tax expect to be invited to visit the council offices by appointment to be grilled under caution. But note that you are not legally obliged to attend. It is a voluntary act on your part. No doubt they occasionally catch a wrongdoer but their McCarthy style witch hunt tactics no doubt drag a lot of innocent people into their net.
@robertcuminale1212
@robertcuminale1212 6 жыл бұрын
They couldn't do that in the US. Only agencies with police powers can get a warrant to inspect anything about you. Privacy laws are very strict here. These people would have to give the investigation over to the FBI because this would be a federal case because the US government is financing the program. If however it is run by the state then only the State Police can investigate. There are also strong responsibility lines as well in authority.

Those housing officers had absolutely zero legal authority to push that hard. they are not legal allowed to enter like that. Goes to show how weak to the knee people get when they visualise an authoritive figure. Sternly legal vocal terms used and they panicked! The tenants could of got away with that if they knew there legal rights. Fair play to the H/O’s although they could of ended up looking very stupid if Somone knew there rights.

This is gunna be a veiw that may offend or anger many butttt I don't think sub letting is realllly bad I think because I know 3 people who rent a council house off people who should be there Single mother has council house, Meets partner who owns his own house, moves in with him ,.keeps council house and rents out The family who moved in was giving a notice to leave their private rental that the landlord was selling their home, mother was 37 weeks pregnant and landlord wanted them out 2 weeks before Christmas ! Shortage of council houses here means they could only be housed in a different city in a one bed hostel Only a mother and children hostel so father was on the streets basically This house was 3 doors down from their rented property, the children stayed in the street with their friends, stayed in the school, parents kept their local jobs and the price of private renting became so high here that the family woudlnt be able to afford it , but renting the council house is only half of what it would be in private market Say what you want about that, but that family is a decent family and them poor children woudlnt have deserved that, They never would have gotten a council houses in this area and that would have devestated the kids
