i got the marbles camp axe too. I was disappointed, ended up getting the velvicut belt hatchet. The Velvicut was not shaving sharp, but all it needed was a few passes over my strop and it was good to go.

wuchyoo want for that marbles disappointment? i'd love to give it a go! i bought an ozark trails hickory handled watchet from walmart and spent a day treating the bit into shaving sharp shape and it does pretty decent! after i used it a for a few fires, i shaved the front of the handle under the head to allow for more comfort when choked up and bored a hole for a hanging lanyard. i've already stripped it and given it one coat of BLO but im going to resand and reoil now that i've done a little re-shaping of the handle. put up a follow-along post on the bcusa forums if you're interested, and we can hammer out purchase details there (keeps record and gives rep for transactions) if you'd like!

I was disappointed in mine. Basically it was 150 extra for being polished. It was just as dull as any hardware store axe

@@KevinHillier-ru5pp ,… yep. If it would have been sharp I would have been pleased with it but,… like you said,… it was just a polished turd. lol. Not even a good polish either. I think they were supposed to be a higher quality steel also but it didn’t seem like anything special. I have the flying fox, the pack axe with a scandi grind & the camp carver with a scandi grind those three axes are excellent. My velvicut Hudson Bay,… Not so great.

Where did you find the one with the better sheath?

@@alexstrouse6333 ,… This is an old video. I think I ordered it from “Whiskey River Trading” but I’m not certain. I don’t know if they still come with these sheath options.

7:05 Yes, it is too much to ask that it be "hair shaving sharp", in fact it'd be just asinine to be shipping out a 1.25 pound razorblade disguised as a pretty hatchet. Almost paper cutting is about right, its plenty sharp enough to work well right out of the box, but not so sharp it cuts some unsuspecting person to the bone. Anyone who wants hair shaving sharp should do it themselves.

Well,... I disagree. I have purchased many other axes and hatchets that arrived hair shaving sharp, like my council tool 19 inch pack axe & my council tool woodcraft pack axe. I have a fiskars Hatcher and a Gransfors bruks hatchet both arrived very sharp. I purchase huge Bowie knives & machetes that arrive hair splitting sharp, regularly. I agree that for an axe, you really only need a working edge, But,... when an expensive premium axe or hatchet arrives it should be “Amazing Sharp”! This one was noticeably dull. Almost Harbor Freight dull. That is unacceptable for an Axe that is this overpriced. Yes,... OVERPRICED. That being said: I really like Council Tool products. As far as shipping it goes,... they can package it better if need be. Put a plastic “blade guard”, on the edge, and put foam rubber or styrofoam in the box to prevent any danger. I’ve had some sharp tools I’ve ordered arrive in a double box! There’s NO good excuse to Not sharpen the axe, hatchet or Knife to a great cutting edge. Just package it safely,... that’s all. Thanx for watching. Peace.

@@JoeDoomsday In the video you say it'll "take next to nothing" to touch it up, and now above its "almost Harbor Freight dull". So which is it? Almost paper cutting leaves little to complain about while Harbor Freight dull is pretty lame at this price. Not sure why I'm picking this nit, I suppose its because far too many people on the tube keep carrying on about hair shaving sharp axes. The whole notion of a shaving sharp pack axe is absurd, here's why.. First, its an axe, not a knife. Usually its the wrong steel and heat treat for that variety of edge holding, it also makes the edge much more vulnerable to chipping/rolling. Pack axes are for chopping/splitting, not "shaping", a razor edge is about zero help in splitting, and minimal help in chopping - good aim and technique is far more important than how sharp the axe is. Also, a razor edge is usually thinned out more which is less effective at splitting and also causes it to "stick" more easily when more than one hit is needed. IMO, a razor sharp axe is just a hazard waiting to bite you in the least desirable environment possible. Its the difference between a torn pantleg and bruised slightly bleeding shin vs meat sliced wide open, profuse bleeding, and a chuck of shin bone missing.. I've seen both, I dont carry a "hair shaving sharp" axe, nor will I venture out with others that think its necessary or cool as those folks are a general liability overall.

Ya. I expected something more, since it was so expensive. It’s just a silver hatchet. nothing all that special. The woodcraft pack axe from Council Tool is a razor sharp scandi grind but thick & strong enough to do real work. It really surprised me! The Camp Carver is also a wonderful hatchet! This one left me cold. I don’t like it & I don’t dislike it. It’s just there. It should have arrived sharper.
