Shannon is a true master of his craft, the TV show spent way too much time focusing on Ryan and the paint department - he's a true master himself, but I'd have loved to see more from fab and engine department too, they're every bit as important and interesting as paint.

I hail from a time when Buchanan's frame shop extended stock H-D springers and Dick Allen and Fats (Hernandez) built long springers. Sugar Bear has been building safe and good-handling springers for years. It's all about the rake/trail geometry in the rockers. Bear got it right. As for me, I'm into traditional 60s-styled choppers with a mild fork extension and no rake. Build right. Ride safe.

Very cool bike. I paid my way through college kicking out necks, molding frames, sanding bondo, doing paint prep work, and working on many similar bikes. We would install extended tubes on the front forks, typically 6 inch tubes were the standard, and keep it simple up there due to cost. My mentor (lol), was a die hard biker who was a painter by day, and biker/custom bike painter by night. We worked in his garage from 6pm to12 mid night. It was like grand central station there! Your bike brings back a lot of memories from the 70s! Love those coffin tanks Evo's too! I agree about what you said about your springer, I had one years ago and wish I had never sold it...

I have a 1988 softail. It also has an Evo motor. I am just like you I love to ride also. Whenever I can. I have to tell you a story about this Bike of mine. This past year when I went out To Sturgis I changed my oil and prepared the bike for the trip. well I trailer my bike so I can live in my trailer while I am there. Well the first day decided to head to Rapid city to check out HD. I got about half way there and oil started to shot all over the highway. I go Oh no I just realized what happed. When I changed my oil back home I forgot to tighten the clamp on the oil tube .Anyway there happened to be a gas station just a little bit up the rode so I coasted into this station hearing this terrible sound coming from my Evo. I thought to myself My Trip to Sturgis is all over. Well I call the people where I was staying at Kickstand camp ground and they sent someone right away. They took me to Rapid city we got some oil and headed bad to my bike. Well I put the oil in after I Tightened the clamp on the oil hose started it up and the bike was still knocking I am sure you have heard the sound before. Away I looked at the two that helped and well I was going to ride it back but I wanted them to follow me just in case. They agreed .I told them what do I got to loose. You know about a quarter of a mile down the road That Evo came out of and purred like a kitten for the next two week that I was in Sturgis. So when you told me about your coffin bike and you chose the Evo for a Motor. I had to tell you my story.

Fires up 20 deg weather and runs like a champ. I also ride a Big Dog Pitbull which I love so much ! I took my ole lady’s sporster and gave her my Softail ( yes that hurts) but I’m gonna trade that to someone for a old school chopper and I am shopping as I am texting to you. I want a chopper like you have u no with your own personal touch. You know the ole saying....... if I have to explain? You wouldn’t understand.
