Countability, groups, subgroups and finiteness properties, Ian Leary | LMS Summer School

What might it mean to give a finite description of an infinite group? Does this constraint on a
group tell us anything about its subgroups? I shall discuss three possible answers to this pair of questions, invoking theorems from 1949, 1961 and 2018.
