Wild how the 3-large and 4-large were both simple but one of the 1-large was brutal. That doesn't happen often. 104: 75 + 10*3 - (6+2)/8, or (10*6 - 8) * 2 631: Tough one with only one odd number. Spent a lot of time looking for various ways to hit 624 (52*12, 104*6, 78*8) and add the 7, but no luck. Best I found was (50 + 8*7) * 6 - 8 + 2 for 630, and even that was after time. 224: 100 + 75 + 50 - 9/9 (or (10-9)); thought this one was going to be nightmarish when I saw the numbers, but the target was a lucky one. 597: 75*8 - 100/50 - 1, or 75*8 - 50/25 - 1, or 75*8 - 100/25 + 1

In the first numbers round, I saw both contestants' solutions and also had these from factoring (13 x 2^3 = 104): 10 + 3 = 13 13 x 8 = 104 75 - 10 = 65 65 x 8 = 520 3 + 2 = 5 520 / 5 = 104 And this alternative way of getting 29: 8 x 6 = 48 48 + 10 = 58 58 / 2 = 29 75 + 29 = 104 In the second numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had these: 50 + 8 = 58 6 / 2 = 3 8 + 3 = 11 58 x 11 = 638 638 - 7 = 631 50 - 8 = 42 42 x 2 = 84 84 - 6 = 78 78 x 8 = 624 624 + 7 = 631 8 + 6 = 14 14 x 2 = 28 50 + 28 = 78 78 x 8 = 624 624 + 7 = 631 In the third numbers round, I saw the contestants' solution and also had these equally easy methods: 75 - 50 = 25 25 x 9 = 225 10 - 9 = 1 225 - 1 = 224 10 x 9 = 90 90 + 75 + 50 + 9 = 224 Only this one, based on factoring (7 x 2^5 = 224) took a little thought - and not that much: 100 - 75 - 9 = 16 50 / 10 = 5 9 + 5 = 14 16 x 14 = 224 In the final numbers round, I saw Fiona's solution (and the equivalents 75 x 8 - 100 / 50 - 1 and 75 x 8 + 1 - 100 / 25), but you could have some more fun with it in these ways: 100 + 75 = 175 175 x 25 = 4375 4375 + 1 = 4376 4376 / 8 = 547 547 + 50 = 597 100 x 50 = 5000 5000 - 25 = 4975 8 + 1 = 9 4975 x 9 = 44775 44775 / 75 = 597 Got the conundrum at about 3 seconds.

104 is a double deck of cards. (10+3) x 8. (50x6+8)x2 + (8+7) = 631. Just in the nick of time, and it was Rachel's way. Not as interesting as she hoped. 100+75+50 - 9/9. Surprised they both did it the exact same way. Could also use 10-9 as a 1, and could also do (75-50)x9 - (10-9) 75x8 - (100/50 + 1) or 75x8 - (100/25 - 1) or 75x8 - (50/25 + 1).

75 + 10 + 8 + 2 + 3 + 6 = 0 (this might be the first time this has happened. Just straight summing) (50 + 7 + 6) × (2 + 8) = -1 (not seeing a good way to get the last part) 100 + 50 + 75 - 9 ÷ 9 = 0 (it hopes to be difficult, but it's not, sadly) (75 - 1) × 8 + (100 + 50) ÷ 25 = +1 (not sure how to get the last part, again)

I always love it when we can add all the numbers together, but completely missed that on this occasion. 8 * (10+3) was my way.

That's not the first time it has happened, I've seen the target of 253 achieved this way as it was the 4 large numbers, and a 2 and 1 for the others. One of the players actually realized it too.
