Hi. Mark. Enjoying your videos. Keep them coming. Just an observation about you fuel flow test, lowering the fuel tube down like that has created a siphon. Looks like you will have about two foot of extra head pressure with that set up. Consider doing the test with the end of the fuel tube at its correct level and draining into a funnel in the fuel can. Just re watched your painting and buffing videos as I might have to jump to painting as I to can’t get an inspector in these difficult times. Cheers

Thanks for sharing; good looking build. Hope you don't mind a couple of observations. The gold on those AN washers was the cadmium plating; there to inhibit corrosion & prevent galvanic corrosive action if used against aluminum. Looks like you 'polished' it off. Pretty good chance they're going to turn 'red' fairly soon after being exposed to moisture. An alternative for a shiny look on non-structural stuff like wheel pants would be to just use stainless steel washers (and screws). On weighing the plane: No idea what Zenith says in their guide, but the last operation is exactly opposite of what every other mfgr recommends. The act of lifting up the gear and lowering it onto the scale will cause the gear to put a side load on the scale platform as the a/c weight spreads the gear. If you're using solid state 'load cell' type scales, it probably won't matter, but if using spring or balance beam type scales, it can radically affect the accuracy. Other mfgrs recommend rolling the plane onto the scales using ramps, so that the gear's 'spread' due to the a/c weight is already there, and doesn't impose a side load on the scales. FWIW...
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
I've mentioned removing the cadmium plating in other videos. Yes I know it's there for corrosion protection, but as much as these will get wiped down and polished they won't have the time to corrode. If they ever do, then I just put new ones on.

What's the fuel flow test for a fuel injected engine with high wings and a header tank?
Aw man..! Spending so much time, meticulously working to make it perfect, years and years of sorting everything down to a T, and just when it's all polished up and ready to go... it's quarantined (well, sort of), like everyone else! That truly sucks.

I started the project in November 2015. But to be fair, I've taken a few breaks from building as I moved to a new home and had other 'life events". Also, the fiberglass fairings I made added a tremendous amount of time to the build.

just fly it.( high speed taxi and O I came off the Ground to late I have to go around. ( Howard) did it with the Goose. and just saying how did you ground a plastic gas can? I would like to know that trick and that amount of fuel is good for 180 hp more like 200 hp easy, what is your engine rated at?
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if grounding the plastic did anything or not. The EAA manual says to ground the plane to the gas can so I did it.
@markdoan14724 жыл бұрын
Yup .. same reason you don't fill a plastic gas can on a pickup bed .. It must always be on the ground . it's not about the electricity flow through plastic because plastic is an amazing insulator .. its about the build up of static electricity charge which plastic does very well
@mustang11914 жыл бұрын
Kitplane Enthusiast Polyethylene is a static accumulator, not a conductor. You did the right thing by grounding with a cable.

841lbs + 168lbs usable fuel + 400lbs people = 24lbs remaining for baggage? With headsets, extra oil, phones, drinks and snacks, more paint to come, your "remaining" useful load is essentially zero? Or am I not considering something? Note that this is from an active kit shopper, definitely not a dig at Zenith.
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
Nope you're correct. The pilot has to pay attention to loading on these light sport airplanes. If you want more useful load (like I do) take a look at the Zenith Super Duty!
