It’s phenomenally difficult. It’s genuinely intimidating.
#RoyalMarines of 42 Commando spearhead specialist boarding operations in the global battle against drugs smugglers, pirates and terrorists.
This short film brings into sharp focus what it takes. This is 42 Commando.

Be a success story mate Use these 2 years to turn yourself into a phenomena, not just a guy who got discharged and came back. When you're sitting with your recruiter/file manager in 1.5-2 years from now...be the guy that leaves them beyond impressed with how far you've driven your life in that time frame One mindset 'trick' that turned into just being a full time mindset change for me, years ago when I was in, was the mindset of "mentally being what my goal is" - not "I'm so & so, and trying to achieve this goal..." That changed a lot for me in what I was able to achieve, just that change in mindset Best of luck mate 🇨🇦 🇬🇧

Chris has definitely hit the nail on the head. Do what you can to really stand out to recruitment 👍 I live in RM country and, each year, people struggle massively with the shore landings during training (getting off a vessel and swimming/wading to shore whilst laden down with kit). As well as fitness, make sure your swimming is second to none, that you're comfortable in rough seas, and prepare yourself for swimming whilst laden down with kit (with support, obviously - keep yourself safe!). Sinking sand catches people out all the time (& it's unavoidable with tidal sand shifts), so don't rely on wading. I understand that they also look favourably on diving experience, so if you can get that, do it. It's definitely worth having a chat with RM careers. They run visits and orientations to various sites so that you can get an idea of the road ahead. Being ex-Army, you'll be familiar with a lot of it, but if you have RM-specific questions, orientations are a good place/time to ask the lads directly and get your questions answered honestly, rather than the typical "what you want to hear" careers office answers. I wish you all the very best. Hopefully we'll see you in deepest, darkest Devon soon, getting your green lid 😎

US Infantry Marine here. Hats off to the production quality here showing the raw reality of this kind of work. We tend to make our PR (recruiting) videos look like friggin' video games or some woke shit. I had the honor of training with Royal Marines in Norway and they are solid. US Marines are structured differently with specialized units in the fleet but overall way too bloated and conventional. I wish we'd scale down and remodel similar to RMs.

@@TheCerebralDude yes you could describe both of those S.F. units as commandos. But U.K. special forces recruit from elte units such as the Royal Marines or the British Army's Parachute Regiment. Although S.F.selection is open to all branches of the British military.The Royal Marines have one of longest selection process in the world 32 weeks for a recruit to Royal Marine likewise a Marines officer officer will under go 64 weeks of training before they are deemed good enough to take command. There is no separate school or academy for potential officers. Unlike their counterparts in the Navy, R.A.F.and the Army. Marines officers will do their training at the same establishment as the recruits . When you say an R.M. or other member of British forces going on selection for S.F. you already have a trained soldier so if that candidate is successful in selection especially from the two elite units I've mentioned you've have a an individual with an incredible skill set at sea and land who will capable of undertaking almost anything put in front of them.

This must be a very exciting specialist role for lads within 4-2 and RM in general to be part of. I think specialist boarding and counter narcotics roles have been the responsibility of 4-2 previously, however, some of the added tasks as depicted in this presentation may have been the responsibility of SF (SBS or SAS Boat Troop) until fairly recently prior to the development of UKSF Support units such as UKSFSG. Some of the lads shown here with concealed facial shots may well have been SBS Operators. I hope many of the guys who conduct these types of operations do take that next obvious step to SF. Lastly, the new development of `Gravity`s` new `jet pack` flying suit will undoubtedly play a large role in the military, especially with SF teams on various tasks, especially for Maritime CT and will make boarding a vessel much, much easier! Great video! Garry H, South Carolina, RAF retired.
@bighands69
@bighands69 Жыл бұрын
SBS training is far more specialized and as such there simply would not be enough operational members to perform to the scale of the UK forces as a whole. There is overlap between Commando's and Special Forces and in many cases they will do a similar task based on what is available in a particular environment. SFSG is not some independent team that is higher ranked that Royal Marine Commandos it is a force that acts in a support capacity to Special Forces and they have additional training to allow them to act as that support group. What Britain really needs is special operations to cover all the elite services and probably to make new forces as well which are suitable for particular needs.

Supporting to do what exactly? Fight for America? Do you understand that we are currently one of the biggest military spenders in the world, number 2 in NATO, all this despite the fact that the UK is in a very safe geographical position, far removed from conflict and enemy powers unlike countries that spend similar GDP % on military like Finland, Poland, Turkey. The policy you support is an aspect of American suzerainty over the UK. We need to scale back spending to the appropriate level to defend just the UK and it's possessions, retain our nuclear capabilities to safeguard against unlikely existential threats, stop contributing so much to NATO strength, stop sending British soldiers to die thousands of miles away for "British values". STOP SUPPORTING AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY OBJECTIVES.

This is the sort of thing that should be used as a recruiting video, not the namby pamby shite that the army is using these days ie "am I allowed to cry" or "am I allowed to wear ladies underwear on operations" type of advert they've been using for the last few years. The armed forces engage with "bad" people and kill them. That's what's going to motivate your average 19 year old to enlist. Ads with helicopters and guns are more appealing than the wet adverts that we've been seeing. Nutters will be screened out during the selection process. At least this shows what some of us already know, the Royal Marines are an elite unit with a very broad skillset.

@@anecdotal_mattybs5435 Drug peddlers have been proven to be funding terrorists or to be terrorists themselves for decades now. If you're found with drugs, smuggling them on a ship then you should be treated as a terrorist would. I am an adult, why do you want us to treat drug peddlers like poor misguided children when they are literal terrorists? If you wiped out drug gangs in Europe you would see crime drop hugely, especially of the violent kind. The lives saved by removing these scum from our society would far outweigh the cost of their deaths.

I’m impressed as I am with all the top of tier 1 and 2 operators. I know how hard they train and I only want to be young again and only train for something like this and have a high security clearance in order to achieve the greatest levels.

Awesome, I was in for a short while, unfortunately never made it all the way through training, tripped up on the most ridiculous medical condition and got booted off. However, I had, by a country mile, the best time of my life whilst I was in. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I took so many of the skills I learned with me. I trained with and cleaned my weapon so religiously, I could still strip it and build it blindfolded now, and all the stoppage drills & damaged SUSAT drills are still in my muscle memory. Good times! 😊

My Dad was in the Royal Navy years ago. My Parents hadn't been a couple after I was a young child, yet my Dad was an incredible influence, teaching me in the absence of any academic influence, how an Episodic memory is best utilised with biometric facial and other sensory recognisions, especially when biometry software was unheard of. I learnt the kind of sense of adventure that ignored the kinds of concerns that most people thought of as hurdles between them & progress. Logical thinking, letting environments reveal their own fruitful journey paths, reliance on adaptable talents and enjoying achieving the goals of a mission, were learnt & evolved every day, into every year. December 17th, 2022., celebrates the completion of the 1st Fifty years of my my having been Human Trafficked after my Parents separated of 1972. The Modern Slavery statute 2016 now entitles me to be supported as 'that' 7yr old child of 1972, and considered "rescued" as though rescued on the 1st day of the Human Trafficking. Technically, that 'rescue' shouldn't ignore the re're're're're Human Trafficking that culminated in my being here 1.5 decades. The consideration of 'rescued', given its statutory ordinary meaning, should provide that I am exempt from the myriad of crime demography associated of these Human Trafficking pyramids. Realistic estimations assert that nationally, England could have between 200 and 500 Fraud pyramids, with aprox 500 people per ponzi scheme pyramid, ranging aprox a 5 mile - 20 mile radius, each. That is, per each City, accross each Country. Using an average, with the calculation achieved from the original knowledge of one vicinity of Human Trafficked families with very young children, us who were the children being GrandParent age (my Mum was re'Trafficked last October 2021, to the Pines of Wandsworth SW18, where Kingston Hosp Trust & Richmond council Adult Safeguarding services both gave agreement to me that each data system of theirs reflects my Mum's situational circumstance as a Human Trafficking case and Wandsworth Council Adult Services got involved with the case as an emergency, last December 2021, yet zero change of circumstance and zero improvements have occured since and zero sightings of her have happened between her & me, the last aprox six months. Recognition talents biometrically did assert the familial involvement of the Saltoun Rd se24 Crack cocaine dealers female family member being a staff member where my Mum was being Trafficked to and the association, though distant, of them & the prendagast family associated of original 1970s Barnes South London Human Trafficking & the flower stall at Brixton Tube & the fruit & veg stall between the small supermkt & Boots chemist, Brixton Rd. A relative known as Dougie was recognised as a relative of the 1970s Barnes Prendagasts who were an incest family (no secret, the original sister, wife & mother shouted out her truths from a top window of a council estate, to me, in a conversation where I had commented on the facial similarity of her & her husband, whom she confessed was her brother. That incest couple had 2 known children, same age group as me. Rus prendagast was part of the same racist gang as a chap known now as the neighbour beneath my home and rus' sister Nicola married a chap known as Ian and they were both the neighbours above where my lived & was Re'Human Trafficked from (see Facebook tess.mccaffery with the history from 1970s.)
