The Chinese don't want to sell to middleman corporations anymore and are going direct sales now. @nicolashrv4 жыл бұрын
The original is overpriced, but this is the other extreme. When you buy this guitar for $150-200 average, you have to immediately buy 1) Pickups (this ones are a piece of shit, it's like having a normal pickup playing at volumen on the 4) 2) Nut (plastic is garbage) 3) Bridge (eventually, not that is very bad, but the chrome usually is some paint or cheap chrome effect which will erase itself in a couple of months) 4) Fretwork (99% of this guitars have a horrendous fretjob) 5) Tuning machines (I can not stress enough how SHIT of garbage the chinese tuners are, usually are so soft they BREAK just by tighting a string) So you will spend around $500 more in new hardware and service.......in the end you will spend around $750-900 depending on custom taxes, so you are actually THROWING your money. For that price you can get a lot of better guitars from Jackson, Fender or even Shecter.

Looks and sounds good to me, I own a few of the real ones and yes they are a grip so if someone wants to play an Yngwie strat but can't afford the real one at $1800 there is nothing wrong with this one to get started. Change the pickups, electronics, tuners, and nut and you will pretty much have the real deal for half the price. A cool little fact is the scallops on Yngwie's personal guitatrs he actually plays are quite shallow, the ones Fender puts out are only that deep because of customer demand but they are to deep in my opinion and bend the notes if not played with a very light touch, so the shallower scallops are actually better for beginners or people who are not familiar with scalloped finger boards.

Hey Guitar Max! The one thing that struck (if nothing else) was that how GOOD you made that guitar sound. Clean or crack-of-doom distortion, that axe sounded killer! The scalloped fingerboard clearly didn't slow you down (not that I could notice, to be sure) and you sat very much at your ease while playing it, like a comfortable old guitar you've played 100 times. Yes, anybody who had their name on it didn't realize a dime in licensing, etc., but if you go and build a strat-style guitar, Fender won't see a dime off of that, either. So is it ultimately a case of appropriate licensing and royalties or is it simply how best to get over. I have a Chinese Fender/Malmsteen knock-off and I love it because, all things being equal, the thing itself is a good guitar. Quality of the materials, fit and finish, heft (the feel of real), sound quality, playability, all point ( at least in my individual experience) to it being a very good instrument which I enjoy very much. I might get a few incredulous looks when I pull that thing out of its case to play blues with (being an old blues guy myself) but it speaks well for itself by playing well for me. Sorry if I kept you too long, Max, just sharing a few things with you. God bless!☮
@tallguy8106 жыл бұрын
The instrument’s a great bargain-but as you pointed out-it’s at that price point for a reason. In addition to the noisy pickups, I did notice some fret buzz. A good setup might address that issue; it also might not. Heaven help a person if the frets are dressed/crowned improperly or the neck is twisted. Those repairs could potentially negate the low price. The apothegm ‘caveat emptor’ definitely applies...

Best sounding distortion I have heard on any of your videos so far. You dialed it in perfect for my ears this time. Not sure what you did but it sounds juicy and punchy. Healthy guitar tone. It's probably a good deal for a scalloped Strat as a base model for modding. Like suggested it would be great as a wall display guitar. I think it would make for a nice "parts-caster" for an upgrade or mod project to bring it up to spec with better pickups, nut, etc. I'd probably refinish the headstock to remove the labels and make it my own version. I had fun upgrading my $400 MIM Strat (SSS satin midnight blue rosewood neck model) by installing YJM-Fury pickups, replaced the worn out tremolo bridge (had to fill and drill new mounting holes for an American spaced bridge), and installed Graph Tech nut and string tree. It has monster tone now and plays great. It's as good as any $800-$1000 Strat right now.

I am a huge fan of Yngwie, he is one of my inspirations as a musician, and the day I saved up to buy a late 90's Yngwie signature stratocaster, candy apple red, natural heavy relic with Dimarzio HS-3's was a great day. I loved that guitar, and spent a lot of wonderful time with it, eventually selling it to build my own custom signature guitar that I still play to this day and have been playing since 2011. Copies, especially of signature models, have no place in this world. It was an honor to support one of my favorite artists by buying and playing his signature model, even though it was reliced and used, I felt more connected to the artist to support him in this way, and any artist is honored to have people save up their hard-earned money to buy their signature instrument. Dishonest business practices in this manner should be regulated. These luthiers/factories can obviously make decent instruments, so they should be more than happy to put their own names on the headstock. Thank you for the video, Maxwell! Max, I bought one of these a few years ago, off Aliexpress, too. I'm really not a fan of Yngwie, yeah he's a great player but I wasn't into the neoclassical thing, I just wanted a scalloped neck guitar, hoping it would help my playing progress. I had already heard that the pickups on chinese guitars were junk, so I'd ordered a loaded pickguard with lace sensors in all three positions (red-silver-blue), and then I had a tech set the action, intonation, and dress the frets, etc. After spending twice the actual cost of the guitar on replacement parts and work, I discovered that the scalloped fretboard really didn't help me at all with my playing, except perhaps with vibrato and bends (you can really grab onto those strings with a scalloped fretboard, lol!). I ended up selling the thing on ebay for exactly what it cost me, but I was careful not to mention anything about the fake fender branding, and did not include any pictures of the headstock or neck-plate. Perhaps the guy that bought the guitar thought he'd found a sucker who had a real YJM guitar and didn't even know it, I have no clue. He got a good guitar, if he's smart he'll sand off the fake fender stuff and leave it at that. As far as the whole Chibson and fake signature things, I don't have a problem with it, myself. The people who actually buy these things KNOW they aren't real, and as long as they're not trying to pawn them off as genuine onto an unsuspecting buyer, i don't have an issue. I personally think it's amusing that the Chinese can replicate these iconic guitars for pennies on the dollar, and do such a good job. If they would simply put better parts on the instruments (i.e., pickups and tuners) and set them up, then put their own brand on them, Fender, Gibson, and PRS would be in a world of hurt, quickly. Pretty much everyone on the planet now knows that the major manufacturers are overpricing their instruments, and that you can get a perfectly good instrument much less dinero, if you don't mind that it's not going to have resale value. I don't buy my guitars as an investment, I buy them to play. As always, love your channel, Amigo, don't stop! -Danny Ray Milligan

Oh, boy, the body is made literally of reclaimed wood, probably from recycled shipping crates........still, the only thing it has in its favor are the Tremolo and the tuners. The guitar can hold punishment without losing the tuning stability......still, all hardware now lost the golden finish, because it was painted.

Your intro really sounded like Danzig! I didn't read the description, just got to the point where you said "Everyone wants to play the Yngve Malemstein." Tjen i quit watching, but does that guitar have the noisless pickups, like the real one? DId I get all -20 points? Lol. Seriously though, thanks for reviewing this guitar. I've been curious about them. Great deal for the price.

How was the intonation? Where the frets put in correctly? Correct distance. How did it feel....high? Even though it's fairly low? I scalloped a squire neck. It's 2mm at the 12th fret but feels higher without the wood under my fingers. Must play it very lightly especially for chords.....they can easily be pushed out of tune. I do like using a straight down movement to create 1/4 tones.....chromatic with 1/4 tones. Great vibrato in different ways.

Granted they are “fakes” or replicas or however u word it…bottom line is cnc machines don’t care wether there in China or USA. They cut the same regardless of country. IMO, what’s referred to as “quality” now is the fit and finish. Hardware and pickups. Etc. Were paying 1000 % markup for the name. U can get a nitro lacquer finished roasted maple neck for 60 bucks out of China. Same exact one here is probably $200 bucks or more, which too, wether bought usa or China will still need a fret level and clean up. If it sounds good and plays good, who gives a shit where it came from.

I bought one of these and Had several adjustments with the help of a Luthier. I Changed the maserati pickups with Fender Texas Spacial set. Changed the buttons, plastic nut. Replaced the tuners with the locked Fender tuners. I spent a lot of time and money. But I am happy with the result. I am not an experienced player or a shredder. But I love the light touch playing enabled by the scalloped fretboard. At first playing chords may be diffiult but you get used to it.

Back in the late 80's i helped a guy scallop his strat's fretboard with a couple files and a dremel because warmoth wanted 450 dollars for a neck with scalloped fretboard. The job turned out very nice but it was white knuckle the whole way. A year later some Korean brand had a scalloped fretboards on 3 models for 349 while the standard models were 299. They all had that crackle paint finish that seemed to be required with your obligatory Floyd.

I have no problem with other brands making S type/T type and single cut guitars of their own if they put their own slant on them.. after all there really are only so many variations you can use to build a guitar, but I disagree with outright fakes, no matter what anyone says at some point in that guitar’s life span it will be palmed off as the real thing at some point.

Hey Max. I think if someone is influenced by a particular artist and can get a decent replica at a good price, that might be an incentive to practice and play more. With all the non-music stuff being "played" by this generation of young people, maybe the China guitar makers are doing us a favor by making good entry level guitars. When I was learning, I started with a Sears guitar because I could not afford a good instrument. I still played it like crazy but once I got a "real" guitar, that was like a door opening that I didn't know had been closed. Totally agree about his name being used without his consent. They should either pay him a percentage or stop using his name. Great channel, please continue!!

Hey, thanks for the reply, it's great to know there's somebody really there. Um, but if it's not too much of an imposition, I do have another question, and you seem incredibly up to date and savy on these issues. The question being: do you you know if the new tariffs and all apply to guitars? I mean, I heard that they cover some 6,000 items and wondered if guitars escaped the levies. Thanks again, your channel is great and just FYI: I'm considering one of the Wolf brand guitars based on your overall recommendations. Thanks for the tips.
@GuitarMAXMusic6 жыл бұрын
Musical instruments are not included in the new tariffs! Most of what it applies to is materials or machinery that's related to manufacturing. Also, the tariffs are hard to enforce. Things are not always labeled, and they can't check every package. As an example, these knock off guitars technically should not be getting through customs, but they almost always do. I highly recommend the Wolf guitars! I just played my WLP last night and I love it!
@tommyvictorbuch69606 жыл бұрын
Personally I stay away from signature models in general. However, a cheap knock off like this could be a good way to find out if scalloped frets are your thing. And Yngwie is doing just fine anyway.
@jduncanm3golf4 жыл бұрын
How is the neck size? Some other reviews say baseball bat huge. The chibson I ordered was way too large too and I had to sand it.
@MetalBeastShred6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for demoing this out Max. I've been eyeballing this guitar for a while, but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Even with the flaws, would it be a decent platform to upgrade? You can always just sand the Fender logo and signature off the headstock (which is what I would do regardless) if ethics are a concern. I always felt the actual Yngwie Signature Fender was grossly overpriced for what it was, even if it was pretty cool.
@GuitarMAXMusic6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it'd still be a good mod platform! The neck and frets are actually pretty good! You could upgrade the pickups, add a new nut, maybe some tuners.... and you'll be set! There are some more expensive version of these which already have a brass nut installed. The ones in this price range are pretty bare bones though. I've seen them as low as $130.

You can hear it doesn't sound like the real deal, but i was surprised at how good it acctually sounded for that price. I could totally buy that guitar much because i probably never will be able to afford a Malmsteen signature strat and i'm not a huge fan of jumbo frets for most of the songs i play, so i could use this guitar as a decoration or to play it once in a while. Also, as a big Fender fan, i wouldn't feel comfortable with it saying "Fender Stratocaster" on it and have Yngwies signature on it, so i would probably remove it somehow.

I had a copy of a Les Paul called an Aria Pro II. I couldn't adjust the neck relief properly without getting a "S" in it so I had to adjust it a bit excessively concave to eliminate the snake in the neck which made it difficult to play. The neck was through the body so it could not be replaced either. I'll never buy another copy of anything again.
@fatherrikhi34644 жыл бұрын
There's a whole bunch of different versions of these. I got the 24 frets for the lulz. It arrived neck broken. The factories are obliging if you're polite. The new neck arrived promptly. Truss rod is crap & I can't get decent action. No biggy. I'll repurpose. Chinese knock off guitars can be hit or miss. I have gotten more excellent ones than outright fails. (great fretless axes & custom requests). I still might try the 22 fret "Yngwie". Keep in mind that you can often request quality upgrades that are extremely reasonable- like brass nuts etc). I'm in the process of getting another headless guitar- i asked for scalloping which the factory is throwing in for $20!!! (Aud). I have a custom 8 string hellokitty which is both hilarious and awesome. The factory threw a number of free upgrades just because I was polite. They must cop a lot of flak from people not getting Fender quality. You should have realistic expectations!!
