Released six years ago, was recommended to me barely 2 years ago. This song and "Tragedy" live rent-free in my head and can pull me out of some emotionally tough shit every time. There's wisdom and agency in anger, we just have to bend it toward growth and discard what decays us. Looking forward to the next album whenever it drops. Stay awesome.

The Story So Far AND Counterparts releasing new music in one week? Pure Noise are really dominating the "I'm not sure I want to be alive, so I'll make angry songs with elaborate metaphors" genre.... (I like both bands)

Usually I just roll with the punches on bands and member changes because that’s the way it goes but I will make the exception and say that this era was fucking prime time for counterparts

've grown accustom to losing sleep Sweep me off my feet, dig your nails into my wounds and pull A lucid dream, where my chest will collapse from the weight of a fictitious ghost Tear through me, sacrifice me to your sea With broken arms I'm left to carry my shell with no help from the current Lifeless, I am dragging me down Hollow, I'm left to fend for myself Forget everything that you've come to know We are not meant for much but to carry our own misery Is there a God cursing every step that I take? Or have I been forced to commit myself to the dirt? We're chasing the light in the darkest of graves But the fortunate ones know to wait until mourning Be still. Serenity blesses us in waves and with eyes like mountains, we're drawn to the brow Leave this life behind and take the next step in the right direction Stare at the sky, and offer yourself to circumstance Be the burn Burn me alive

Counterparts is the only band i get really exited about when new stuff is coming out. With the most other bands i listen i feel content with the stuff i know and i'm not really in need for more. It's like i feel really connected to this band. It's like we all share the pain of Brendan and he is an good example of what expanded consciousness about this world does to a mind. And it is so well illustrated that we can all relate to it. In the beginning you have the feeling of having the world figured out and wanting to change it. (and believing we can) In the second album he gets more realisation, while depression is coming up he is still trying to combat it with positivity. But with "reflections" as kinda an announcement for the following work, in which he embraces that living with this kind of knowledge is just really hard. It's like we all care about him, because we are all in the same boat. It's not just "music" anymore. This is a story being written. No other singer could ever replace him, it would be like someone would try to finish a book that isn't started by himself. This is a band with character. Counterparts just feels real. I'm so exited about what this new album is going to tell and i hope we all find peace no matter how hard it could seem sometimes.
@18bovende8 жыл бұрын
+18bovende I disagree with my former self.. once again.. Wtf was i talking.. : "expanded consiousness" < screw me.. an own Knowlegde of good and evil was what i was truly talking about. I've come to really serious discovery. And i'm glad Brendan is asking himself the same question in this song. It's clear to me now why he is going through this depression, but i also know He will forgive him. Take the Bible symbolic, not litterally, and serious things will reveal itself to you.. I recommed "The Bible Project" on youtube, Love you Brendan i know you will be good.
