And to just think, at this time in music, this great band was considered the 'pop music' of the day. What a time to have been alive! Long live the crows!

Great find - saw Counting Crows in a small bar in Frankfurt. Among the most talented singer, song writers of our generation. This is what talent looks like.

Great music; great times! Life changes as we grow and understand it best but this moment remains forever… great music! Great era in time, nice to know it was shared to be reminiscent of today.

my favorite Crows era, all original members, Dan on mando, no overcrowding the stage with guitars, just simple and Adam singing, not getting too poetic and scat vocalizing.

i will stand behind what you have said.
@countingcrows1239 жыл бұрын
They're so much better live now though. They have really grown.. and technically Dan is not an original member ;)
@ia56629 жыл бұрын
countingcrows123 Dan is close enough to original that he was on their first tour, plus there is actually a "need" for him being that there are leads and solos. There are rarely any times a third guitar is even necessary and it just muddies the sound up. Adam constantly "poetically states" lyrics rather than sing the actual beautiful melodies he invented for the songs, so to me, they are a classic example of overproduction in the place of the original talent. Don't get me wrong, I get that artists hate to bore themselves playing the same songs over and over the same exact way, but in this case, Adam's original vocal parts have been untouched for so long that either he probably forgets how he sang it or he's just trying way too hard to be artistic. I think it would actually be MORE refreshing to hear the songs as they once were. Adam was given a immense gift in his voice and yet he chooses not to use it, which does piss off a lot of previous fans like myself. Just not into it these days...
@countingcrows1239 жыл бұрын
You say the original vocal parts but even he says that the album versions everyone knows and loves are just the interpretation he was feeling THAT day. They were never necessarily written that way.. every day is different, but only one can make the album. That is the complete opposite definition of "overproduced." When something's overproduced it's the addition of effects to make something have more appeal. That's the opposite of what they do. They do what they wanna do. Have you heard them lately live? Honestly he sings songs closer to the original than he has in years. They're better than ever right now.
@ia56629 жыл бұрын
countingcrows123 I'll have to check out their latest concerts, I'm going off what I saw a few years back when I saw them live and some recent videos. And I don't buy the whole, "it's what he was feeling that day". If you listen to the rare B-side tracks like the original "Omaha" or "Shallow Days" acoustic, the melodies Adam sang on the final production version of both those songs are extremely close. He barely changed anything. I'm an artist myself, and certainly you always leave room for creativity when in the studio, but you also must plan and structure a song. It's not just a wing, not to mention, you've most likely been playing that song gigging out for quite some time before it's ready to be recorded. What I mean by overproduced is not that Adam's voice is overproduced in any way, I was referring to the fact that there are 3-4 guys playing guitar on any given song. Immergluck hogs the stage any chance he can get and just doesn't fit the vibe of the band at all. Dave is my favorite member for his simplicity and tact in his songwriting and he's basically shoved in the back of the stage somewhere when he's the guy that wrote practically ever hit they had alongside Adam. It used to just be those two. So, "overproduction" as in way too many guitars to achieve a thick sound, when they sounded just fine, and as full, with just Dave and Dan. You can hear so much more of the subtleties come out with more space to play with. In an interview, Dave even says that he has had to change his playing just to stand out sonically onstage because there are 2 other guys competing for precious air waves. I will certainly check out their newer performances though now that you said that.

Saw this on TV back then, loved '4 White Stallions' right away. It wasn't released officially until 2002, and when it did, it had an awfully kitschy country guitar in the front of the mix that totally spoiled the song. (Gotta admit it's kind of kitschy to begin with, but that guitar pushes it over the edge for me.) Glad I finally stumbled upon this version. Thanks for uploading.

I agree I think with age Adam May of gotten lazy with his singing. This above WAS his prime in life! Now-He’s older, on meds and probably not in the best shape. All of that takes its toll but I truly miss this Adam If I could travel back in time I would travel back to 1994 in a heartbeat 💓
