💖💖💖 "This was not depression. This was not workaholism. I have a fairly severe mental illness that makes it hard to do my job - in fact, makes me totally ill suited for my job. I have a form of dissociative disorder that makes the world seem like it’s not real, as if things aren’t taking place. It’s hard to explain, but you feel untethered. And because nothing seems real, it’s hard to connect with the world or the people in it because they’re not there. You’re not there. That’s why I rarely saw my family back then: It’s hard to care when everything feels as if it’s taking place in your imagination. And if you’re distant with people, especially women you’re romantically involved with, they eventually leave. What makes my case even worse is that every night I go out on stage and have this incredible emotional connection between me, the band, and the audience. Then, just like that, it’s over. I go backstage, back to the bus, back to my hotel room, and sit there all by myself. That deep connection is yanked away in an instant. It’s like breaking up with your girlfriend over and over again, every night." Adam Duritz - Counting Crows.

The meaning behind this song is sad as hell. It’s about a dissociative disorder where you practically see life as if it were a movie. The singer himself has this disorder. To watch him sing it is astounding.
@SnakeBiteGaming6 жыл бұрын
Cable Vamp it's called depersonalisation disorder or derealisation disorder. I suffer from it it's horrible.
@saintjabroni3 жыл бұрын
@@SnakeBiteGaming I’m there with you. (I experience it too. So many don’t know what it is. And they never will. Good for them.)
@VicInNocal3 жыл бұрын
What does that even mean to see life as if it's a movie?
@saintjabroni3 жыл бұрын
@@VicInNocal Please look up depersonalization/derealization as a symptom or disorder. Plenty to soak in online. It’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced it, much like trying to explain what to be drunk is actually like to someone who’s never been in any kind of altered state before (even in a state of extreme fear). To put it out there ahead of time - Depersonalization / Derealization (DP / DR) is not a fond altered state in any shape or form. Completely the opposite. It’s like if the act of an hour-long, deep meditation session brought you *less* peace by every passing minute… With DP/DR, you feel that you *ARE* detached from the world and yourself, and even somewhat all that you know about yourself (a state of disbelief almost), in the worst way imaginable. It’s like you’re a ghost even to yourself. Think long enough about that one. Indeed, many a time when I’ve experienced DP/DR I described it as if a veil was placed in front of me. Later on, I read that exact description somewhere online (in a medical article). The same way you watch a movie and know without having to remind yourself “This is a movie.”, all throughout watching the movie, that’s what opening your eyes up to the world around you feels like when experiencing DP/DR. Except I would refer it as “This doesn’t feel like real life.”

This song has so much psychological pain attached to it because my first girlfriend broke up with me and this particular night I had taken x cut with heroine. I find out she's dating my best friend. I proceed to have intense hallucinations for the first time in my life, with my ex trying to “console” me as I'm losing my shit and we were all so fucked up, Color Blind played on the stereo on repeat and no one thought to change it. Even after all that, I will still play the shit out of this masterpiece because Counting Crows deserves nothing less;)
