Schools dont get enough money from the government so if you are going to a school in a poorer area, you are just kinda screwed. In New Zealand some primary schools have a school lunch once a week where we'd get the choice between nachos, pizza and one other I don't remember alongside a piece of fruit and a moosy juicy (a frozen milk based drink/popsicle then when I was in high school for those in years 7-12 (at schools with a canteen) got a choice of sausage rolls, pizza, pie and a hot dog with a fridge of sports drinks and a few options of popsicles and ice creams as dessert. Some schools even sell sushi or rice and curry based dishes depending on the people running the canteen or if the senior culinary students made fresh lunches before each lunch time with year 13's also getting the option to leave campus and go buy whatever they want from the surrounding fast food places and there's no limit to how much you can buy it just depended on how much was left in stock
