We have an old Ross nine hole private course 45 min from me. They only have 3 guys to do all the work and the course is in really good condition. I always wave at the guys working on the course. They are the ones that work hard so you can play golf!

Cool looking 9 hole Club. Double cut five greens with borrowed shoes? Ouch! I bet you slept well that night. Ask your buddy if he has a walk behind drop seeder. Spreading bent seed with that hand held unit four feet above the surface is not optimal, at least it wasn't windy.

We reseeded our nursery green with Bentgrass. Put a thin layer or peat moss over it to keep it moist. Had germination in 3 days. Plan on fertilizing once a week for the next 4 weeks

Super awesome you could mow greens for them! Yes lot's of walking. did you play in the tournament too? True story. We had 20 greens and 4 mowers alternating greens. It should come out about even in time but the rule was which ever group got finished first would mow the nursery green. Odd number greens were a little larger and the nursery was part of the odd numbers because it was smaller than the putting green. This is when I only mowed greens on my weekends, we worked every other weekend and we always mowed with the same person most every weekend and mowed the same greens. Seems that it became more and more we mowed the nursery for the other guys. Which means we mowed 11 greens to their 9. We got tired of mowing and extra green so we started to slow down so it came out that the other group would have to mow the nursery. It worked but soon the boss asked us why it was taking so long to mow greens. My friend looked him in the eye and said "We did not know it was a race."

@@SpudRunGolf If you follow golf on tv and know anything about Sedgefield CC. The 5th hole is a par 5 with a big deep bunker in front of the green. I am mowing greens with a new guy named Brooks who had just learned how to mow greens and is now today the super at a nice golf club near me. We mowed in pairs, one guy would make the first cut and the other guy would start after the first cut on the other side of the green. Today we are mowing front to back. I make the first cut and off we go. We made a few passes and I make the turn to mow from the front of the green to the back, passed Brooks a few stripes over. When I finished the line and turned toward the front of the green there was nobody. No Brooks, no mower. About that time a head popped up out of the bunker. Brooks mower went into the trap pulling him with it. When I stopped and walked over to him first thing he said was 'I swallowed my gum!"...Sent him to the shop to get his mover checked out and finished mowing the green by myself.

My wife’s family had a 9 hole course in Somerset Co. PA. The course while beautiful didn’t make alot of money so I can sympathize with your friend. We had one superintendent and then two full time hourly guys. If we didn’t get 6 days of play in the course we lost money. The overhead with a golf course is bonkers. You really need to have a good restaurant that hosts events to make a decent buck. Great episode. You can tell the green expansion is about to explode with color. Too bad you can’t do a super long time lapse over a few days. That would be cool.

I am just beginning doing a home green. I wish I could be as detailed as you. I'm doing a small green maybe 1000 sq ft. I bought a Greensmaster recently. What is the best reel to cut with? 11? 14? I did buy some creeping bent grass from Hancock. I only bought 5 lbs for now. I see some just cutting current lawn low and starting from there or topping it with a heavy level of compost and then overseeding. I'm in Youngstown, OH. Can I get away without the drainage? What is best sand to use? Should i fertilize right away? Do I need to spray funucide right away?
@SpudRunGolf Жыл бұрын
You can definitely nurse existing conditions into a putting green. You’ll just not have a roll compared to a usga built green, but that’s probably ok for your situation. No drainage will be ok, it’ll just take it longer to dry out when it rains. I’d scalp it real low and use masonry sand several times to work into the soil. Some starter fert would be handy at time of seeding. Conditions to warrant fungicide will not be until June or so.

@@SpudRunGolf how many blades would you recommend for the green? I have the opportunity to buy a 14 is that a good idea?
