This is my 1973 Ford Country Squire. I'm 2nd owner and this car still runs like a dream with only 78,000 original miles. Paint, interior, A/C , power seats everything works great.

OMG! My grandfather had the same type of wagon...Same exterior trim and same color! Brougham interior as well...Only difference was the car I speak of had the 429 engine and power windows and door locks...I was a kid when we all went on a two week excursion through the Eastern US when the car was only about six months old...Smooth ride, and with plenty of power from even the 429 under the hood, up and over the mountains fully loaded was no problem whatsoever...I'm thinking Ford designed the 460 model featured here with pulling a trailer in mind, as opposed to the 429 model, which was more for strictly passenger comfort on the road...Did not at all expect to see one of these in such prime condition after 40 years...Thanks for posting!

beautiful wagon - my mother used a thin wooden yardstick from the lumber company to reach us in the back seats when we got out of line! She drove a 72 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban - Plymouth’s version of the Country Squire - it had factory dual air conditioning - a Chrysler Corporation exclusive option - Ford and Chevrolet wagons offered nothing like it.

My Father had the same car when we lived in the US many moons ago. I loved it and always wanted to get one. I have pics of us as kids sitting on the roof :) I'm looking to buy :) I live in Ontario Canada. At the moment I have a 92 Buick Roadmaster Wagon. Looking to add to the fleet.

This is a celebration of all things brown. I haven't heard that horrible buzzer in about 35 years but I recognized it immediately from my childhood, so now I'm going to have some PTSD. My parents had a Marquis wagon, it was a 1974 or '76 but pretty much the same car.

My father drove one almost exactly like this one. A 1972. Same color, different bench, different wheels, slightly different radio and all windows were electric. But that's it. It was one of the few in Europe as it was not officially imported. I loved it as a child. Twice as big as most other cars over here. I even polished it. I wanted to buy it when I got my driver's license. But one year beforehand, after many years of standing still, it was sold by the company my father drove for. It was a company car for the CEO's of the company. Turned out they only bought it to impress a Japanese delegation they wanted to do a deal with. After that no CEO wanted to be driven in it, as it resembled a undertaker car and they did not want to be seen in it. So, they drove in Mercedes Benz mostly. Three years later I saw it once driving by in a bad shape. The one I polished so many times with Turtle wax. Sad.

my parents 1st new car was a 1977 Mercury Colony Park Wagon about the same brown and had the big 460 cid engine in it, man did that thing just float. My parents originally ordered a 1977 Mercury Colony Park(blue in color) with the 400 cid engine. They were out looking around on the dealer lot where the places the order from and found the Brown one withthe 460 cid engine and it just sparkled. Needless to say they cancelled the order for the Blue one and bought the brown one. I guess it was a good move because Ford was having engine fire issues with the 1977 400 cid engines. I miss that car

I was selling cars in 99’ at a Ford dealership. A guy came in with a 73’ LTD to trade. It had the 460 4BBL. It wasn’t mint but in very good condition with 70k I asked if I could drive it home that night. Sales manager kind of chuckled and was surprised that out of all the cars I could have chose I chose it. He was young and obviously didn’t appreciate the gem. The next day the owner of the car came in to finalize the deal. I told him I drove it home night before. He asked if I opened up the engine. Lol. Believe me I wanted to but I was afraid my luck something would happen so I drove it normal and that itself was a treat. I kinda regret I didn’t.

1973 was the first year Ford offered the 8 track tape player with their am/fm Stereo radio. It was only offered with the am radio in previous years. Suprised that it doesn't have optional power windows considering it has cruise control and the Brougham interior. 73 w as also the first year A power passenger seat was offered.

I brought this car home from the dealer in 1973, so proud that I could afford a new car. Gas on the air base was 25 cents per gallon. Unfortunately, the idiots at the dealership forgot to put the radiator cap back on after their sales check. So the car overheated when I pulled into the driveway. Beyond that, it was a terrific station wagon. Where are you with this car, Todd? Have you sold it yet?

In 1973, most people or the dealers customer ordered the cars and picked out options they wanted in the cars. Almost every item on the car was a add on item including the roof rack. Ford could make two million cars and not two of them alike. Also, many people had a distrust for power windows back then, due to lack of reliability and they also added a lot of cost to the car.

I love the early 70's Country Squires, but the constant references and stereotyping of "The Family Truckster" has been way over done and over played. My heavens, even the real car from the movie was based on an 80's Country Squire, not a 70's.
