What was so "shocking" about Charlie Rich's burning of an award card? It was obviously a light-hearted joke to get laughs at the expense of his friend, John Denver. It was just a joke--tame by today's standards. Why do we have to make a scandal out of everything these days? I grew up on Country Music, and I did not even know about (or remember) this incident until it was put on KZbin. It was just a JOKE!!!

@koDaffi
@koDaffi 2 жыл бұрын
He was mad at Vernon because Vernon wouldn't let him in. Elvis called Jerry Lee crying upset that he couldn't get away and Jerry said he would come get him and they would go out together like the old times. When Jerry showed up at the gate Vernon refused to let him in to see Elvis. So Jerry yelled that he knew Elvis before he was a big star and he was going to go see his friend. He slammed his car into the gates and the police showed up arresting him. Was a gun but it was on the dash of the car. They always had guns. He only shot his bass player but he just winged him lol.

I remember when Olivia Newton-John won Female Vocalist of the Year in 1974, beating out the likes of Loretta Lynn, Anne Murray, Dolly Parton, and Tanya Tucker. I can't remember who announced that she won but I keep thinking maybe it was Flatt or Scruggs or maybe Bill Monroe, but anyway he pronounced her name as Ol-a-vee'-a Newton.... (and then after a lengthy pause he added) John. It was his way of protesting her win because he was in effect saying that she was such an unknown in the country music world that he didn't even recognize her name. He actually may NOT have recognized her name. He was not the only entertainer who was less than thrilled that she won and many fans were not real thrilled either. The odd thing is that one reason they were protesting so much was that she was born in England and raised in Australia and did not fit their idea of a "country" girl, and yet Anne Murray, who they apparently accepted wholeheartedly, was also not a country girl because she was born and raised in Canada. Like I said, very odd.

I’m from Knoxville and I’ve never heard of a Andrew Johnson hospital. But Hank Williams did stay at the Andrew Johnson hotel on Gay street. Id always heard that’s where he got one shot. According to my uncle he’d got another shot later. Many locals believe the second shot took his life. My uncle “Slick” Sutherland was best friends with Swan Kitts the officer that pulled Hanks caddy over. Swan said to the day he died-he wished he would’ve pulled Hank outta the back seat of that car because he just knew he was soon to be dead if not dead already. The Young man Mr Carr that was driving the Caddy kept telling Swan that it was hillbilly singer Hank Williams in the back seat & he was sleeping from a shot the Doctor gave him. He told Swan that he’s gotta get him to a show. Swan told Carr that he’d served in the Korean War and he knows what a dead man looks like & that he believed he was dead or was gonna be. But the Carr boy kept saying he was only sleeping. My uncle wrote Carl Smith’s first no1 hit “Let Old Mother Nature Have Her Way” & he took me to the very spot Hanks caddy got pulled over. I know the exact spot to this day on Rutledge highway! I wrote a song about it. It’s on KZbin under Ross Southerland -Hank Williams’ Last Day

Faron Young is one that I would consider to be an outlaw. He would get all hopped up and you didn’t know what direction his personality was going to go. I’d seen him chasing a good looking young woman one minute and wanting to fight everyone the next. But man could he sing.

John Denver had such a beautiful voice and every song was great to this day, and always!

I absolutely agree with you 100%. I don't get emotional when stars pass away, but when I heard about John Denver's death, I cried. My brother & I received JD's greatest hits album for Christmas in the late 70s (along with Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life) and we wore that album out. To this day, if a John Denver song comes on the radio, and my brother's in the car with me, we sing every word.

Oh my God i know what Randy Travis felt After that . I took Ambien and the things i have said and done because of this medication made me so ashamed i wanted to die. You never get over it. This medication should be discontinued.

All heroes and heroines of mine. I'm worried about Jerry Lee....now that Mickey is gone, I fear Jerry won't be far behind. And he's the last of those early rock-and-roll greats. I know he's 39 And Holding, but...☹️

Jerry Lee Lewis always falls back on his early rock & roll songs, but I’ve always thought he had one of the best country voices ever. Give that man a cheating or drinking song, and stand back.
@jrussellcase
@jrussellcase 2 жыл бұрын
@@jray5363 Yes sir, agreed. He and Mickey Gilley have very similar singing and playing styles, and it's like you said, let Jerry sing a country song and stand back. I always wanted to get to see him in concert. I never got that chance. But I bet he let the audience know he was there.

Let's not forget Keith Whitley... they claim he drank himself to death. Keith had several vehicle accidents, nearly lost his record label over his antics. I know many think highly of Jones, but between Keith Whitley, Randy Travis and ole Lefty there wasn't anyone better. Those 3 are the top troubadours imo.
