My granduncle was almost killed by a black angus bull he raised, treated him like a dog just a big pet. We all petty him and never had any fear of the animal, then one day he was walking through the barn lot after milking and the bull hit him from the back and grinded him into the ground like dust. The bull kept grinding and pushing him ended up next to a wooden fence and my stepdad was able to drag him out from under the fence saving his life, a hard thing to see as a 8 yr old boy. Nearly killed him and he we was never right again, broken back, ribs sever head trauma it was terrible. As others have stated, never trust any bull, especially if he has mated before. I was raised on a large dairy farm milking cows, Holstein cows, don’t matter the breed they all can turn on you.

I, long ago, drove into town from where I lived. There were two bulls fighting on a hillside early in the morning. I was gone most of the day and was on my way home, probably 5 hours later, and not only were the bulls still going at it but half the town was parked on the roadside watching.

Thanks for sharing with us Evan and Rebecca, so sorry for your loss of a Ram on your homestead. Hope things settle to your benefit. Hope that the newly purchased Bull "Oliver/Ollie" grows and works out for you over many years . We have a lot of delivery problems with FED-X especially this time of the year, new inexperienced drivers that don't care. We expect damaged boxes from UPS but they do look for the correct delivery spot. Stay safe and keep up the great work around there. Fred.

Never trust a bull ever! The older they get and the longer you have them the less safe you become. If you have to go in the field with them make sure you have the side by side or preferably the tractor with you. Be safe.

That is sad, the fact that the Ram died quickly would usually indicate a broken neck or deadly concussion from a skull fracture that stopped either its breathing or stopped its heart from beating. Rams can also die from heat exhaustion when fighting for prolonged periods in hot weather.

We raised “black baldy” cattle. Hereford cow with an angus bull. You really get the best of both breeds. But I’ve witnessed angus bulls do some devastating damage. We bought an angus from the bull sale one year. Bought it home and the first thing it did was snap off a railroad tie at the ground. We loaded him back up, sold him, and purchased another. Always hated putting the bulls back together after they were finished with breeding cause it always meant there would be a lot of fence to mend.

Curly probably had a heart attack after his little altercation, look on the bright side you have some free dog tucker for the winter. All animals have evolved to deal with the physicality of day-to-day life with each other or predation. A little push and shove wouldn't have caused any serious injury or death unless, by misadventure, very few animal species fight to the death and usually the weaker ones will just run away. Angus Jersey X should make some decent eating beef probably with the yellow fat of the Jersey being dominant but very tasty, something to look forward to, and by then Olly will be calling the shots.

Since it’s possible that Larry killed curly, I suggest you go on find two unrelated Rams about four months, old, from two different sources, and then send Larry the freezer camp. Oliver may miss his mother, but we are so old dairy calves at three days old, to a guy who bottle-fed them, and then pale, fed them. The heifer calves that we kept we treated the same, and they were weaned from pill feeding at five or six weeks. You might feed him a little grain for a couple of months, how long with the hay and silage.

I grew up on a farm we had a bull with our two milk cows went I took them from the pasture to milk we had to take him along or he would break out of the pasture. Hundreds of times no problem then one day he charged me if there wasn’t a farm wagon near for me to dive under he would have gored me. My dog puppy tried to stop the bull but the pull through him and injured him. I would not keep two bulls in the same pen.

I have raised sheep and you will need to take the ram out with the ewes when they lamb. The bucks will bunt you when you are looking. I have seen them bunt a farmer and break a hip. I have had a ram come at me and hit me in the chest. They are not to be trusted at all. We raise Adam from a lamb and he still worked me over when I wasn't watching. Love your channel. We also had a jersey family cow and ended up using an angus bull to get her breed. good luck...............

It’s not totally unheard of for 2 rams to fight to the death; and it can happen really fast. These are powerful animals. I don’t have first hand experience with this but I have read that 3 or more rams usually will not fight as hard to determine dominance as 2 will. Something to think about.
