Try a sewer rotary snake in your floor drains , also try using a backflow water pressure to help clean out your floor drain system , you might want to cut a hole in the wall where all the water is pooling in the back barn

Hello from the Netherlands . maybe you can rent a drainage snake for those floor drainage pits from your local hardware store, with that drainage snake you can unclog the drain of those floor pits and then I think you can also find where those pits come out. for the rainwater that enters the bulls under and along the wall if you can see the place very well where that is, dig a hole there, make a formwork of waste wood and then 5cm away from the wall piece along the wall upwards 20cm and or so, and then mix very soepy concrete mix then you fill that hole with concrete let it sit for a week or so until it has hardened really well and then no more water comes in through there. just shield the corner where it is so wet from the bulls , measure at the lowest point in that neat corner along the wall how deep it is then at the same point on the wall on the outside take over that height , with a long masonry drill through a drill plastic lid from a (paint) bucket to use as a water shield when you drill through the wall so that you don't get water on your drill and then possibly an electric shock through the water, drainage hole in the wall at the lowest point in the wet corner and you are done . although in the beginning you will regularly have to poke a twig in the hole in the wall to keep it open due to the blubber water on the other side of course. but when it's dry it won't accumulate again with rainwater I think. thats how i would do it myself anyway. but I don't know what you can get in the shops near you which could make it easier. thanks for the video . Sincerely Hollandduck

A plumbing professional might be the way to go initially to help flush out the drains and give you advice on how and where to channel the water. Unless you fix it at the source, it wont be fixed at all. I hope there are several tom turkeys in your batches! Maybe one will have the same charm and personality as dad! I really miss seeing him follow you around but I did notice the white kitty follow you with the steers.

Hi Evan... none of us will ever run out of problems to solve. Solve one problem and two more will appear. But I guess that's why a lot of people call them opportunities instead. These "problems" are actually opportunities to learn and widen our knowledge base. Best of luck to you with your new barn drainage "opportunity." 😊😊😊 I have no doubt you will solve it just before another opportunity appears. Thanks to you and Rebekah for the great videos.

Good luck with the drain system for the barn, hopefully you'll find the answer and how the system runs and can get rid of the mess under roof. Maybe just opening the floor drains and opening a spot in the foundation to route the water outside. Stay safe, Fred.

Here on our ranch, we have TONS of flies. I have used those jar types for years and found the stinkiest FREE concoction that draws on tons of flies and even wasps. Every time you pull meat out of the freezer, save all the blood in a plastic, tight sealing container. Keep adding to it and yes, Im warning you, the stench is unreal! 😝 Add this stinky mix into the fly traps with enough water to catch the flies. Yes... seriously, this works! Our only problem here is that it also brings in the bears. Ha Ha! One of the joys of ranching near Yellowstone. LOL!

There are a number of KZbin vids on the subject of flies - apparently one good method is feeding the cattle garlic with either their food or with whatever supplements you feed your cattle. It takes month for the garlic start working - it exudes from the Cattle's skin - repeals the flies. You can by premixed supplement or purchase the garlic separately and mix it with whatever. Watch the vids

Interesting problem. To solve, you need to find the source. Given that the water appeared when it rained, I wouldn’t think it was clogged floor drains, or a leaky outlet or an outlet that the lean to was built over. Unless water runs into the barn and into the drains. That leaves surface runoff from up the hill, water shed from the roof, or ephemeral springs the barn was built on. Of those, the latter is probably least likely. Mitigating the current soup would take prevention of the source water, creating an outlet, and time. Good luck!

Guessing and reading hints from your other videos. When it rains, that barnyard is soupy. You need a negative slope that pushes water away from the foundation. Two things rule the hydro world gravity and the path of least resistance. My guess is water is ponding somewhere on the upper side and percolating through the ground into that corner. The solution there is to drain anywhere upstream that ponds in rainy weather. the simplest fix for that corner is to demo enough of the foundation to get fill line installed under the ground and to close up that wall. I'd guess the inside drains just need cleared. Hay, manure, feed, decades of dust. More than likely, that's all it needs. For flies, we always used those rub socks and burned oil or diesel. Loving the changes you're brining to the place Evan. Thank you for giving us a place to come and be away from the madness in this world.

I would try to trace the source of the water coming thru the hole in the barn wall. You would of course need to do it when it's not raining. It looks like a French drain is a definite thing in your future. Happy about the turkey flock. Maybe a large enclosure for them to stay contained could help!

I'm no expert, but I'd love to see you not give up on rotationally grazing those steers. Keeping them in one spot is compounding the mud, over mature grass / selective grazing by the cows, and the fly issue. Keeping them moving helps all of these things. Probably all things you know already and I see you working toward that goal with the fencing. Keep up the good work!

The back wall of your steer shed is concrete block. Get yourself a hammer and chisel, find the lowest point and knock out 1/2 of a block (8" X 8"). You gotta get that cesspool drained and the only way that's going to happen is if the water can flow to a lower level. The simple solution is the best solution. You can fix this in an hour.

I watch another channel where the guy does drainage around buildings so I definitely know what I'm talking about.😂 Pack dirt with a high clay content at the base of the wall so the water flows away from the barn. Then 3 or so feet away from the wall add in a French drain. Consider gutters too to help move water away from the barn. Seems like a lot for an old barn but may help it last longer. Can that wall be repaired before you pack dirt in front of it?

In my opinion Evan all you need is an outer French Drain. Preferably 8" or 10" perferated pipe two foot or more deep then, put about 16" of 1" gravel on top the drain. Should solve your problem. Best wishes, if it were me, I'd put any excess gravel inside where the water is now standing.

We have the same problem with our barn. Water was running through it. We got that to stop but the cows had already turned it to soop. We had to lock the cows out of the barn for a month or two . They we put in some dirt thinking that would help. We let them back in and it is turning back to soop just for them being in there. I think we are going to have to get some bank run gravel to put in their. Pete from just a few acres farm put it in his barn about a year ago.

The first problem is water coming in the barn. Looks like your new drive may be causing water to enter and overwhelm a stopped up drain system. Dig two small test holes outside the barn ( one each side) at the upper wall, to see if the ground is saturated. It may be as easy as two ten to fifteen ft. long ditches, with dad’s backhoe, big rock and textile cloth.

That water problem ain't about drains. That's about drainage around the outside of the barn. I have a suspicion it is coming off the roof on the uphill side and channeling under the barn. First step is positive drainage all the way around the barn and ditches or swales to carry it well away from the barn and yard. Like I said, I figure that front roof needs a ditch... or gutters to a piped drain to daylight somewhere out of the way... Or both... Look at your road too... all that water needs to go around.
