Thank for checking out ArborActive and our 40 ton Countly line splitter. We just got a sweet 4 way wedge for it and it is GREAT! Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXebZpiiiMlkd6c

Great review, and a little tip, when splitting on the vertical plane, place a 2x4 about 6 -8 inches in front of the splitter foot, this will level or hold the round of wood into the splitter instead of you holding it in place. As I mentioned in a previous post, I run a 30 ton splitter and have had zero issues with the splitter it self. As far as the bolts backing out, do not just run them back in, remove each one inspect and replace if needed

Good stuff! I left my trusty 2x off to the side so I could show what the little plate does. I’ve seen a few that people have welded a big old metal plate too for the same reason. You are right on the bolts! I’ll end up making a bigger mess for myself if I just start driving.

@@ArborActive I generally don’t split vertically, so how I manage the large rounds is to roll them up on the “control side of the splitter then twist them and lift the final 16 inches to splitter bed. You are correct that debris collects all over the splitter bed, and under the ram. The 30 ton doesn’t have the tank guard, but it looks like it may be a nice feature. I see you added an automatic trip for the ram return, this was a simple idea to shorten up the return stroke to improve splitter time, i have used a block of wood between the round being split, and the foot. Coming up on 2+ years with my county line 30 ton splitter,and have processed about 70 cord of wood with it for my sister, and myself, never had an issue yet! These are solid machines and almost a pleasure to run! Enjoy it!

Very impressive splitter! Thanks for sharing! I was unable to find the 40 ton at tractor supply website, and called a few stores. Hopefully they start selling this model again by the fall, I'd prefer the short cycle time and power output this machine has! Thanks again!

There actually is a 4way wedge for the 40 ton splitter. It seems to be better on the side ways splitter.

Yes! I have another video of the 40 ton 4 way! It is so much better! I always have it on there for the most part now.

I also like my CL 40 ton. I did do a few things to it though. The biggest one, in terms of reliability, is to get rid of the OEM metal to metal coupler it uses to connect the motor to the pump. I changed the pump mount so I could replace the metal to metal coupler with a large Lovejoy style with poly spider. Two reasons, the metal to metal ones will wear out faster and it's also harder on the pump. It transfers the "pulse" energies of the motor firing to the pump more. When you have a Lovejoy coupler, the spider helps absorb some of these pulses. I also added a pressure gauge and I swapped out the OEM filter housing/filter to a larger one which has a rated flow capacity of the pump. I also added a couple adhesive temp strips to be able to monitor surface temps of the filter housing and ram. When you remove and look at the OEM filter, it states the max flow capacity right on it, which was nowhere near the rated 25GPM of the pump. This means the filter spends all of the time in bypass not filtering all of the fluid. I am now filtering all of the fluid with this much larger filter and housing. Seeing I installed a gauge, I was able to see where the factory set the bypass valve at on the directional control valve (DCV). In order for that size cylinder to produce the rated tonnage of 40 ton, it would need to see 3,850psi. I only have a 3,000psi gauge, but when I tested it, as soon as the second stage hit, the gauge pegged way past the 3,000 psi mark before I immediately let off. So it was probably set at the factory near the rated 40 ton. I ended up backing the DCV off a bit so it goes into bypass right around the 3,200psi area.......which is ~33 tons. I also adjusted the crossover relief on the pump itself to hold the faster first stage to a higher pressure. I've used it to split ~20 cord now and it has yet to even go to the second stage. I'm not even sure it has even seen 500psi. I mainly only split oak and maple though, so two very easy splitting species of wood. Anyway, here it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJbCpq2ZoJJ2gpY

I never felt the need to upgrade to the 40 ton. I have the 25 ton country line and can split 30" x26" rounds with no problem.

I found this for you to look at for your splitter ! Log splitter stroke limiter Save the Acorns (his channel) Save the Acorns. There is even a better video out fixing this problem, I will try to find this for you. Log splitter stroke limiter May 31, 2022 We split shorter logs and needed a way for the splitter to automatically stop on the return stroke. Now we can start the return stroke and grab the next log without worrying about it returning to the full 24” stroke and having to wait 10” of nothing for it to touch the log. There channel is Save the Acorns. I think you will like this.

If you want it to last longer put some moly disulfide lube under the edges of the slide

I love mine, but it gets VERY hot. So hot it will burn you if you touch the cylinder. Is this normal?
@ArborActive
@ArborActive 9 ай бұрын
Ya it definitely warms up especially running on a hit summer day. I think it’s a a relatively small amount of fluid in the reservoir and it heats up quick.

Put a predetermined cut of chunk wood at the base as a spacer to take up the ram slack. Speeds up production ten fold.

my 25 ton has holes on the bottom of the beam to get rid of debris..dont know why they didnt do it on this one
@ArborActive
@ArborActive Жыл бұрын
There are holes, though I find they are too small to clear the debris on there own. It’s no a big deal but the debris needs to be addressed about hourly.

I need those baskets for the wood, where do you get them?

They are called IBC totes. I found these on my local Facebook marketplace. Farms and places that use liquid chemicals generally have them.

All box store splitters are same, slow cycle time. Will they split wood of course, but if you split wood more than 1 season you get tired of slow cycle time. Eastonmade, powersplit , all commercial grade,you will find yourself moving up.
@ArborActive
@ArborActive Жыл бұрын
I hear that. I’d love to get my hands on a commercial unit, but for the 5-10 cords I produce a year hard to justify. 9 second cycle with the 4 way wedge will have to suffice. It’s no speed demon, but much better than the smaller 25 ton units and splitting by hand I’ve done in years past.

@@JosephDredd31 Agreed Alex! I’ll love to have a nice commercial Machine or wood processor and really ramp up my firewood selling game. Making enough to keep the house warm and bring in some beer money is fine for me though. Maybe if this KZbin channel takes off I’ll bump something nice to show off! Thanks for checking in!

@@JosephDredd31 so what side do you have the tray on? I bought one but haven’t mounted it yet. I would have mounted same way he did but my workflow would be different… I would use to keep the wood from falling of after being split. Unsplit wood behind me and the crate for split wood on the other side of the tray. First time I use it I’ll figure it out!

He Needs to sit on a metal crate then have a 2 by 12 wood board on the ground along side the metal plate the log sits on to prevent the rocking. Sit down and just split. This guy is working way to hard.
