Hey there is no song on earth like this one...I'm 65 yo now & was there at 21 yo - as much as I remember anyways...have travelled the world now a couple of times & taken that song with me whenever possible just to restore some normality to my life wherever I was !! Long live the memory of Stevie Wright - may he rest in peace eternally !! All things come together sooner or later & so I dedicate the part in part 2 where he says 'I wanna thank you now for giving me this child so much a part of me and you' to my ex and my wonderful blessed now 19 yo son...keep up the great work guys !! PS...glad you loved it !!

Im aussie born in 1965 and 'grew up' in the 70s 80s. Now in my late 50s and still EVERY time I hear this song...I turn into a blubbering mess. BEST SONG EVER. And yes ALL parts MUST be played together. I always hated when radio only played each part seperately. LOVE you guys😊👍👍

I was at the concert, 1979, I was 17. Huge crowd - 100,000 they said. Evie must be one of the top few Aussie rock songs of all time. Written by exThe Easybeats George Young & Harry Vanda, sung by exThe Easybeats singer Stevie Wright. Radio still gets turned right up when this comes on

The sound of my youth. ❣ I think the song is a full story. Part 1 the getting together. Part 2 the marriage & pregnancy. Part 3 dying in childbirth.

Thanks for this comment. Even though I love this song and have listened to it 1000 times I never made the connection with death in childbirth. I just thought they broke up. Having heard it first as a teenager I never interpreted it that way. Hearing it again here and seeing your comment it is sssoo obvious. DOH!

Well done guys for featuring this classic Aussie Trilogy. It’s still as timeless today as when it was written and definitely as moving. I think the tragedy you feel in part 3 is felt by all Aussies when we lost Stevie. Fronting the Easybeats who were recognized as Australias first global rock band . Vale Stevie…. The cornerstone of Aussie rock 🙏 I still get goosebumps when I watch this live version and happy to say it has featured in every gig our band has performed. One of my faves.

I never knew till years later that this is what the ending of the song was about. I was under the misapprehension that she and the child walked out of his life, lost love sort of thing. It now makes perfect sense right at the end when the piano goes wonky, it's him losing his mind. A much deeper song in retrospect.

1979. Malcolm in the yellow jacket. George Young co wrote the song with Harry Vanda (both formerly with Stevie Wright in the Easybeats) , George Young also played with AC/DC in the very early stages……. then went on to manage AC/DC. It is believed that the child died in childbirth.

Some more connection for you. Harry Vanda & George Young were the guitarists in 'Stevie Wright & the Easybeats'. They were also a huge music production team through the years, and also wrote many songs for other bands.. George Young was the brother to Angus Young & Malcomb Young of AC/DC fame. The team 'Vanda & Young' also produced AC/DC in their early years through the 70's. I always love hearing this song. When it first came out in '74, it was unheard of for a song of this length to reach #1 in the music charts.

It's curious that even though people like you introducing music to a new audience and reintroducing music to fans that have let it slip to their subconscious reinvigorates interest old and new, that KZbin block so much content through record labels, etc that they are missing out on so much. Just how many people now go looking for this song on Spotify or YT Music or other music platforms, or, heaven forbid, go out and buy an actual CD or LP? If there's enough interest it might even make it's way back onto the radio. What you guys do is a service for the record labels and the artists and should be compensated not blocked. Thanks for putting this song up, it brought back a lot of memories from my youth.

So cool to see you do this - an absolute Aussie classic. It came out in '74 and ended up the biggest selling single of the year here, also at the time it was the longest single (at 11 minutes) to go to #1 anywhere in the world. It was also pretty unheard of for radio to play such a long song (or anything over 3 minutes) but play it they did! It's a complete saga, the fun of meeting and getting together, the romance of falling in love and starting a family, the sorrow/frustration/anger of losing your woman after childbirth. I think the last part is upbeat, even though the lyrics are sad, is because the emotion is angry (as in anger being fast & "thumping') - anger and confusion at things going wrong and losing his woman.

It is a relationship song. The “giving me this child” is her pregnant, rather than that she had a baby. The last part is more anger & confusion instead of upbeat. “When I woke this morning I was king of the world, longing to know if we’d a boy or a girl” She’s giving birth and dies in childbirth.

This takes me back to when this was on the radio all the time. I feel so lucky to have experienced The Easybeats, and then when Stevie Wright went out on his own. You can imagine the inspiration that the schoolboy Angus Young would have felt growing up with his older brother performing at this level for all those years, and listening to his brother on the radio. And it all began with The Easybeats - what a legendary band that gave us so much.

Wonderful synopsis you two. Being Aussie, I have heard this many times and always appreciated the musical play and the lyrics. Until watching your breakdown, I just never understood the pure expression of a man, who is warning, how simple it is to lose your way. in life (with all the temptations) and not realise until it's gone ! To take blessings in life for granted ! Thank you, great reaction !

Yes you are correct about sultans of swing , guitar George is George young, Malcolm and Angus young’s big brother , and also the line “ and Harry doesn’t mind “ is Harry Vanda both from the Easybeats . Vanda and Young wrote lots of hit songs for the Easybeats and other artists . also for early acca dacca , George also played on and produced early ac/dc songs . Stevie Wright is an absolute Aussie rock legend bk in the day . He was even considered to replace Bon Scott when he passed in ac/dc but because of his drug issues Angus thought it was too risky . I really wish that could’ve happened 😢 SW would have been a great fit for acca , some say Bon got all his moves from Stevie Wright . Great reaction guys , This is an Australian rock icon of a song 😊 The song is about young love , having a baby , and his wife dies at child birth 😢

First - romance Second - life together and child Third - wife dying in childbirth. part 3 is frenetic because he is impotent/ powerless to help his wife from dying. Part 2 He is still in love with her and he admits he is "nothing without you" so in part 3 he not only sees his wife die but his life is mostly over as well. "I can't carry on" etc.. His world is chaos.

You should check out his solo music career he is still great 👍😃 performer and song writer. He done a concert at the Bridge way Hotel in Australia. He sang a song called I've been loving you to long by Otis Redding . It was great 😂 👍. He also sang a song called Brothers that he wrote with Eddy Goldsmith that was good 👍. He was doing some back flips on the stage also 😂😂. He was in his 30 doing these things.😂🎉 He was writing songs with George young before Vanda took over . he is a better performer and song writer then the others. You could listen to his music and not hurt your ears 😂 with the nosie the other bands were doing ❤❤❤🎉 R.I. P. Stevie we love and miss you very much. Always will 😢😢😢

Stevie Wright co wrote most of all the Easybeats hits they had in Australia. When they went to the UK, a record producer said his writing was not good enough. This sent him on a downward self destructive spiral. The Easybeats had many hits at home but only one in the UK, Friday On My Mind, which was written by Vanda and Young. When Bon Scott died Stevie would have been a perfect replacement for Bon in ACDC. However his addictions were too great and the band looked elsewhere. Vanda and Young wrote many hit songs for other artists. As for Stevie's Easybeats song writing look up, For My Woman, She's So Fine, Wedding Ring, Women, Come and See Her, Easy As Can Be, In My Book, Too Much, I'll Make You Happy, Sad Lonely And Blue, Sorry, Funny Feelin', plus many others.

I have an annual camping trip with some uni mates and this is one of the tracks we always listen to sitting around the camp fire at night (with appropriate liquid refreshment🍺🍷). I don't know what backstory you have been given but Rollen, go with your relationship view. I see in the comments so far that Deb B and others have provided the same meaning I understood for each part so won't repeat it here. To my knowledge, nothing to do with drug addiction. Yes, please read the lyrics. I loved your reactions. Great job as always! 😍 And Angie, I almost fell off my couch when I heard you say you've played cricket!!!! And don't worry about rugby, it's AFL (Aussie Rules Football) you should learn about - that should dis-endorse me with 50% of my fellow Aussies 😜

Upbeat nature of last port is the chaos he was feeling & the emotional turmoil he was feeling. She had had kids before no probs -why would this birth have been any different. Then suddenly it went wrong - DRM giving birth to suddenly dying on the table. Staff freaking out trying to bring her back - he is in m shock and freaking out wanting to get to her probably. In a blink of an eye his life had changed forever and she was gone. … I guess.

My perspective of this song is Evie 1 is where they met and fell in love, Evie 2 is where they became one and were awaiting the arrival of their child and Evie 3 is where Evie was dying due to a problem with the birth and the part Stevie played was angry at being helpless and not knowing what was going on hence the more animated third song.

Stevie Wright had a previous career with The Easybeats and their international hit ‘Friday on my mind’. George Young was rhythm guitarist with that group along with Harry Vander on lead guitar. George was Angus Young’s older brother. George and Harry wrote Evie and produced Stevie’s first solo album. They went on to write and produce for numerous other artists including John Paul Young and his hit ‘Love is in the Air’ which was used for the movie ‘Strictly Ballroom’. A very talented bunch of people who first met in a migrant hostel here in Australia after arriving from Scotland, England and the Netherlands as young teenagers. Stevie and George have since passed away. Our great loss.

Great reaction. Stevie was the front man for the EasyBeats, Australia's most successful and popular band from the 60's. George Young was guitarist in the EasyBeats and he and Harry Vanda became one of the most successful songwriting teams in Oz, and helped in the careers of many Australian bands, including, of course, AC/DC with George's two brothers in it. In cricket the term for hitting the ball out of the playing field is "hitting it for six" because hitting it out of the park is automatically awarded six runs, without having to actually run them.

Stevie the man the myth the legend. He fought demons and won. If you watch the Easybeats …Friday on my mind. Also Good Times …Stevie is not so old there. And George Young Malcolm and Angus Young’s older brother is on guitar. George and Malcolm RIP guitar heroes. 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏼🤘🏿💜💜💜💜 .Harry Vanda and George Young produced the early AC/DC records. And it is George’s homage in Sultans of Swing

People sometimes overlook the fact that George ( Malcolm and Angus older brother) was already Rock royalty while his younger brothers were still at school. Which in turn gave AC/DC a bit of a head start.

The back up musicians in this were members from a large group of bands that were on the Albert record label that Harry Vanda and George Young worked for. There are members of Sherbert, Cheetah (the two girls) and the guitarist you thought was a Young brother is Kevin Borich from Kevin Borich and the Express. Plus members who played in John Paul Youngs band.

George Young started out with the easy beats and moved on to working for Ted Albert of Albert studios, while working with Harry Vander as song writers for others as well as forming their own band called flash in the pan. They had a hit with the song down among the dead men, but their song walking in the rain didn't go far until Grace Jones picked it up. Albert studios rescued a lot of Aussie musicians and brought them recognition overseas, they're responsible for producing AC/DC with George's younger brothers Malcolm and Angus. There's a documentary series from ABC TV about Albert studios and I think it's the one called Long way to the top.

There is a documentary on the Easybeats, how they started up, how successful they were and how/why they broke up. I think it's called Friday on my Mind. Australia is a relatively safe country, Oprah Winfrey said, "Do y'all go to nice school?" Most of us do things to help each other out when we need help, so if we end up needing help someday, someone may help us too. On the outback roads in particular, if you break down or run out of fuel, you may be stuck for hours or days until someone comes along. When someone does come along they will usually help if they can or tell someone in the next place along, so help can come. Not everywhere has internet or phone service.

It was George Young who started the Easybeats with Vander and Stevie lived in the same migrant center in Villawood that Malcom and Angus grew up in with their family who migrated from England.

Stevie Wright was the FIRST choice to replace Bon Scott as frontman for ACDC and he would have been perfect. But unfortunately his heavy drug use saw Stevie end up in the notorious Chelmsford Mental Hospital where they used (DST) Deep Sleep Therapy on Stevie. DST involved a cocktail of Toxic and Dangerous Barbiturates that would out patients into comas for 3 -4 weeks at a time also used electrical shock treatment and frontal lobotomy's as well. Patients would leave ten times worse than they arrived as was the case with Stevie Wright. Stevie was never the same mentally or physically every again. His physical health had also been destroyed forever. Years later there was a Royal Commission into the hospitals practices which where found to be unethical and criminal. STEVIE was the lead singer of the EASY BEATS at the age of 16yrs with George Young (ACDC) they had a number international hits. Stevie had a few other hits like glam rock song "Guitar Band " and his Album " Black Eyed Bruiser " being one of my favourites which has a few inspiring rebellious songs that are as true today as EVER " People and the Power" which i'm sure Rollen would appreciate.

Great song live, another clip that is really good of this is recorded with the words. It makes it much easier to follow what the song is about, the guy that posted it is called "stoned tripper" on Utube and well worth a listen. PS Stevie Wright died in December 2015

You should check out the 2005 version of this song. Performed as a one off at a charity concert performed by members of some of Australia's biggest bands at the time. They called themselves The Wrights in honor of Stevie Wright each part is sung by a different singer it's fantastic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2Opg6x5pLucl6s

Song is not about Stevie and his addiction - but what he went through he used for his emotion in this song all about a relationship growth and he loses the love of his life in childbirth - just in the song, though. It was written by Harry Vander & George Young [the older Young brother] , they were the song writing duo of The Easybeats, the '60's band they were in with Stevie Wright [lead singer] and they supported him for this come back from heroin addiction - his addiction caused the loss of his career but also his marriage and son. Stevie recovered here but went on to struggle with his addictions again for many years, unfortunately. In his first big treatment program he went to the infamous Chelmsford Hospital in Sydney which used deep sleep therapy and ECT and there were deaths from that treatment and others who committed suicide after the treatment. He had a tragic life for a long time - heroin is a b^tch.

Sorry you lost it because the sound wasn't clear sound due to the age. Evie died during childbirth, and it's the pain, confusion, dispare, grief and anger driving the up tempo part in iii not happiness. What you were saying is correct Stevie was the lead singer of the Easybeats and George Young and Harry Vanders were 2 of the guitarists in the Easybeats they are both named in the Dire Straits song Sultanas of Swing George is guitar George and Harry doesn't mind it he don't make the seen he's got a daytime job he's doing alright. Evie was covered by Suzi Quatro later on but only Evie I, I think. Vanders and Young were very big in song writing and record production in Australia. They wrote All of the Easybeats songs several for Stevie wright after the broke up. School days forAC/DC as well as produced AC/DC first 5 Albums as well as many more. They also had there own band after the Easybeats called Flash in the Pan George did most of the singing.

It was 1974. The 70's weren't great for Stevie, a lot of it was his own doing after being a hearthrob in the 60's, but in the 70's he was more a bearded bluesy vocalist, but the drugs and the booze got the better of him.
