This shows the mastery that each band member has of their instrument. Keith a powerhouse on drums, John the wizard on bass, Pete's guitar and organ/synth artistry , and Roger with that VOICE, and that SCREAM!. And it all comes together to create this masterpiece.

You have to remember when this was written. The end of the '60s/beginning of the '70s. The entire planet was in turmoil. Vietnam, Kent State massacre, bombings, Kkdnappings. The KKK was on the warpath bombing black churches. I was just a kid but I remember that shit well. It was crazy. The revolution everyone wanted was for Peace and Love and Equality for all. This song is saying that is a grand idea but let's hope and pray we don't get fooled again by the warmongering hate merchants. Alas... we got fooled again and again and again. The line "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" is the essence of the song. Yes, lets make changes but lets also be cautious who and what we put in place...

14:43 It's not just the time, but also the society. The Soviet Union had been trying to expand since 1945, and the US and UK were opposing them on every front, even the domestic front where the USSR tried and failed to subvert various societies to push and expand communism. England had three major civil wars; and came close to a fourth under Queen Victoria; two in the middle ages and one during the very late renaissance. This song MAY have been a response to potential civil unrest within the UK.
@МаркМерзляков-ы3и3 ай бұрын
Speaking only of Soviet expansion, more precisely, not of the USSR itself, but of the idea of socialism, this is only part of the situation that does not describe the overall picture of the Cold War. Because at the end of World War II, the United States also expanded, geographically and ideologically, creating new allies and satellites. But there were many situations in the Cold War where there were completely illogical opponents, such as in the civil war in Nigeria, where Britain and the USSR supported the federal government, and Biafra was supported France and China. Or the civil war in Angola, where the struggle was essentially between Cuba and South Africa. But many are silent about the fact that in addition to the nuclear threat and the arms race, another important process has occurred. The British Empire was destroyed by the combined efforts of the United States and the Soviet Union, due to the coincidence of interests. The USSR's interest is to weaken its long-time strategic opponent. And the interest of the United States, which has always sought to dominate the "Western world", where Britain was the main domestic competitor for the Americans. This coincidence of interests led to the liquidation of the British Empire. Technically, everything was done through the same "velvet revolutions": they supported the Indians, supported the Africans, made it clear to the British colonies: "You can go out, you can speak out against the British, we will support you." And the Soviet Union confirmed - "we will help you."

I started off a Beatles fan, as my dad play them mostly, but they made some amazing music. From there I migrated to Guns N Roses, as they made killer music as well, but it was raw, had an edge, and spoke to my younger angrier self. Then I discovered THE WHO, were Pete wrote songs the complete opposite of the Beatles, but just as well crafted and just as amazing. The Who was everything I had liked about the Beatles, with the high energy and raw sound of GnR, all rolled in to one. They've been my favorite band ever since, and I was lucky enough to see them once with John, and then twice after he passed, as I was born when this song was released so I became a fan in my early 20's. Even at their advanced ages, they still sound better live than any of their contemporaries of the time, and even better than most bands half their age.
