I remember one time I was gonna let my ex use my phone to check if some photos in an album was live for a customer (he’s a photographer). And he went into a rant about how I shouldn’t let him use my phone because it’s private and that that’s not something I should do. When all I was gonna do was let him use it to check the photos. I thought it was very odd. And turns out he said all that because he was a cheater and if I had asked the same thing from him I would’ve saw that… he didn’t wanna use mine so it will be a double standard if he said no to me. There should be no problem with a couple going through each others phones as long as it’s not a constant thing. If it becomes constant/there is absolutely no reason/the root cause is not being addressed then I think that is when it becomes a problem. I have no issue with my partner going through my phone.

I've been in a relationship with the same guy for 4.5 years. We've been living together for over 3 years. I still have photos and messages from exes long before him because I was never able to stick to keeping a diary. I don't have a great memory, and seeing photos from when I was younger helps me remember things. It's helpful to look back and see how far I've grown as a person. I don't look back at those photos and messages with a fond "aw! miss it" feeling, but more like a "yep, that's a part of my history and I don't want to forget it." I see nothing wrong with keeping a log of your life on your own personal device.
