they shouldn't even use those things at all because they're completely unreliable and just because you passed doesn't mean you were actually being honest and just because you fail doesn't necessarily mean you're lying. There have been cases in the past where serial killers have passed lie detector tests which is why they are not permissible in a criminal court and they should not be allowable at all but of course they do it here for the drama.
