Great job Al. I have used the Hunt couplings on some of my freight stock (Dapol Yeoman hoppers & their MRA set plus some rakes of Bachmann container wagons). These certainly make decoupling a lot easier.

Dear Al, that was a fantastic video, very enjoyable to watch. Thank you so much for going to all the trouble over the last couple months. We very much appreciate all the time and effort you give to our hobby. I will definitely show my AMRAWA club mates this. John from Perth WA. (Australian Model Railway Association Western Australia).

My issue with the pivoting couplings is that when you uncouple the wagons or coaches it comes apart at the pivot rather than the magnet. When this happens you can’t get it to stay back on the pivot. However West Hill Wagon works give a life time warranty on the couplings so I just save them up as they break and every now and again send them back and West Hill replace them with new ones. It’s just the time in continually replacing broken couplings which is a pain
@lord-al-20246 сағат бұрын
Yes they will replace the damaged ones . plus you may need a slightly longer nem pocket pivoting ones . they do a few size lengths.

Hi Allan, As you say a game changer if you want to have big racks of wagons on magnetic couplings and now very simple to do with these but not much good for shunting without the Hand of God making an apparence but a super how to video should help all who want to upgrade well done. Cheers Robert.

Hi lord Al. It's a bit cold here too. We've had snow since Saturday. Now it's freezing as well. Wrap up warm lol. I've fitted pivoting couplings to old D couplings too and they do work a treat. They (west hill wagon works) make some great products as well as the couplings, my first too company for lots of things . Cheers lord Al see you around Andy

Since going over to magnetic couplings myself I've noticed wagons etc run better . As you don't get that twist you can get with the tension lock . Plus you get a better look to them with the gap . As it's hot as big . It's a win for me .

Top Man good to hear they run better for you . Thank you for watching.

Great use of these WWW flexible couplings, and clearly they work brilliantly, sending a trains in reverse at a fair ole speed proves their worth. I was very worried for poor old Jack, the lil plastic person in the signal box whos not only having kittens, but puppies, kids and calves seeing the train going backwards down... the mainline. aaaaarrrggggggggggghhhhhhhh. He's got the 1437 to Doncaster waiting to leave, the 1442 to Cleethorpes is already 45mins late, and not forgetting the rather large grain hopper train heading all they way down to Bristol with plastic Steve whos got to deliver a pork pie to the Plastic station manager at Bristol Temple Meads. Its disaster!! Panic is not the word, he's thinking of all the paper work (hours, days, weeks of it) and already missing his dog, he was due to pick up fish chips for tea. I can seeing the tears on his face as the train of 21 t wagons comes thundering down the track in reverse and on the wrong line. Heeeeeeeuullpppppppppp. Lol just a little chuckle to bright your day further, great video, catch you soon.

I am now convinced that Hunt Couplings is the way to go. I watched my first running session of 2025 rather closely and saw that both trains one with coaches and one with wagons were moving forwards and backward in the D couplings. Magnetic couplings eliminate this problem. Was that my wallet flying out under the door? Never mind; there was nothing in there anyway. I did notice that on the incline one of the wagons jumped on the points. I have problems with some wagons doing the same. It might be the Hornby Points that I have or is it the plastic wheels? Martin. (Thailand)
@lord-al-202411 сағат бұрын
Yes some times i do get a wagon jump there it`s the plastic wheels . i use peco points but to change 40 wheel sets gets very expensive . I`ll have to shop around for some metal ones.The last set i change out was £55 not cheap and there big rakes .lol..
@coalbridgejunction767422 сағат бұрын
Hi Allan thanks for your very informative video I have been converting a lot of locos and rolling stock to hunt couplings as well and had the same problem on some of my locos I changed all locos with swivel couplings . Also I wondered how you got on in the bad weather it's been bad up here in Yorkshire !!! Kind regards Martin

Hi Lord Al many thanks for sharing this info, can the long wheel base wagons be mixed with the short wheel base wagons? I have a rake of Bachmann mk1 coaches (NSE livery) fitted with Hunt couplings but find in one area of my layout they derail, it is on a curve with a very small camber of the track before a set of points before entering the station. Could I fit the swivel type coupling to a rake of coaches? Regards and thanks in advance Barry.
@lord-al-2024Күн бұрын
I would say yes but do the research on West Hills Web site or if you ring them they will put you right so you dont buy the wrong ones. Open Tuesday to Friday . i have not tried it my self so you best check. okay Barry.

Hi Al, very good informative video, why Hornby persist in fitting those extremely dated huge D style toy couplings is beyond me, could it be down to pure laziness or they just don’t care? Westhill wagon works will continue to give us an option in the couplings market, I’ve seen a few posts on KZbin about their original couplings that would break very easily due to the material they were made out of, I’m sure this has been addressed, keep the videos coming and thanks for sharing.

I'm sticking to the original NEM couplings, which is what I'm used to. I'm glad your Black 5 engines distracted me. Stinky diesels aren't my thing when it comes to sound. I'd prefer to see all manner of steam engines put the diesels out of work, but it ain't gonna happen any time soon. While I do like to see matching livery colours some of the time, call me picky, I don't like to see diesels matching the livery of either wagons or Mk. 1 coaches. I hope to see a steamy running some time. In my book, steam rules supreme. Whether or not you agree with me is entirely up to you. We're all different, if we all liked the same things, life would be boring.
