sometimes our ways are not Gods ways, because he is all knowing he sees the our end from our beginning. God didn't make us black and white so that we can segregate he made us black and white because there is beauty in diversity, that is why we see that everyone is beautiful in their own way. Black, white and mixed, are all from Gods . Let us embrace this diversity and and our world will be a better place.

+Emily Emamezi No truer words could be spoken on the subject. I truly believe that one of the first things one realizes upon death, after their spirit/soul leaves the oh so very temporary housing (the human body), is what a huge, huge waste of time it was to care about the color of skin on the bodies of others. I refuse to waste the precious minutes of my life with such stupidity. God bless you!

She should have stopped constantly making him feel guilty about not openly showing affection, when she knew it was against the law. Then every time he threw caution to the wind and proved his love (taking her to meet his parents, asking her to marry him in a public square, planning to take her to France to live as husband and wife) she would hand his heart back to him, and ultimately she crushed him without a second thought. That wasn't kind and Godlike, but cruel and heartless.

I love this movie so much. I love that God and faith were like the main character. Vanessa Williams is a wonderful actress. I felt like I was her she was so engaging and so accessible. And she is so pretty. There was so many twists and obstacles yet with God and Faith they overcame. Not to mention the New Orleans architecture was breathtaking. And the costumes were some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. What a wonderful historical story. In these times with the media creating such racial divide, this is a story that shall be celebrated. I pray that we all come together as God's children to embrace God's love, forgiveness and loving of our neighbor. God bless these filmmakers for capturing a moment of American history that is something we can all feel proud of and humbled by.

The character of Henrietta brings out the best in her as she discovers (and succumbs to) God's will for her, even at the expense of marriage to a true gentleman who's won her heart. It's fulfilling that she continued to collaborate with her beloved on her new calling: service to the poor. This is a sterling performance by the enchantingly beautiful Vanessa Williams.

Can everyone commenting on here about race keep it clean. A lot of the comments seem like hateful ones. The whole point of this movie is that a woman decided to follow God and bless the ex slaves who were in poverty after being freed from slavery. It's a real pity people have made such awful racist comments on here.

+U.S. LAW how does your comment work? I am of mixed race myself. I don't think it was kind for my white forefathers to have Africans as slaves. +U.S. LAW I live in NZ, and I am sorry to hear of the awful things going on in the states... did they really say that about black people being inferior?? That is so crazy! As an individual and being brought up here in little old New Zealand, it's becoming more of a multi cultural society- and I know we all have different beliefs, traumas, pasts. I am learning to forgive myself first for my wrongs and also learning to forgive others. I am realising though the impact of generational trauma passed down. I looked on your you tube account and am really enjoying the video about PTSD. I can relate on so many levels but have a long way to go in understanding the trauma suffered at the hands of some very weird thinking about intelligence based on colour. OMG.

Henriette DeLille's cause for canonization was opened in 1988. She was declared "Venerable" by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. She has not yet been declared a saint. Her process for beatification is still pending, and her beatification has to be approved before she can be considered for canonization. Those are the three steps towards being declared a saint: venerable, beatification, canonization. The process can take a long time. Pope John XXIII died in 1963. He was canonized in 2014 by Pope Francis. I hope Henriette DeLille is eventually canonized. She deserves to be.

This is a beautiful movie. I did not know about the contributions of the incredible Henriette DeLille. Grateful to have seen this movie. I recently saw Selma, here in Switzerland, where I live. I was a little girl in the 60's when MLK marched in my hometown, Chicago. As white people we didn't understand what the people of color were going through. All my life I have tried to become more educated about racism. These kinds of movies help to teach us white folks more empathy. I wish they were required in all the schools in the world. Seven Years a Slave, The Butler, The Help, and other films less recent like To Kill A Mockingbird, gave a glimpse. I always say that I was raised by a beautiful black woman, like so many whites. My Annie, she was like family to me all my life, all my life she was another of my many "mothers". Police brutality, all that has been coming out about it, to expose this horrible persistent misuse of civil authority, entirely illegal, this has been a good thing for America. The Black LIves Matter movement is close to my heart and I always say on FB or anywhere that my life won't matter until Black Lives Matter. That is what I have to say after viewing this moving and charming film. And believe when I say the misuse of power, racism, sexism, ageism, class-ism, we find this everywhere, not just in the US.

@@Michelle-pn9xt I wonder why I can't sleep n have such sweet dreams.!! ? Mine is all nightmares and flashbacks of revolution 79 in iran، fighting at the front line of Iran Iraq war as a child soldier in 80s، then another five cold winters in snowy Zagros mountains fighting a guerrilla war against Islamic rulers of Iran in Marxist Leninist group in 90s. I've been a political prisoner in 27 different prisons in my life. Lashed biten tortured... And all that. There's not an inch of my body I don't carry a scar. After all that been experiencing racism in multiple forms n shapes in Eroupe. Yes! The term "more equal" sounds like "2+2=5". But in this old jock of some being "more equal" than others, it is the REALITY that the jocker is talking about!! Reality is what we can see, touch, hear, smell..... To say "I wish every one was equal" which spells Idealism sounds more reasonable n fare. But I'm too old for daydreaming.

My first time seeing this movie and it blessed so for so many reasons. As a believer of Christ and to know that I can walk in my full purpose and be married , it is a blessing that I don't have to choose. For the courage to her to walk in her convictions and realize that as a woman and add to that of color her worth. For the man she loves to be strong enough and willing to walk away from everything to love her, very emotional movie.

Don't you mean mixed is beautiful since you're not black? Mixed beauty is not a representation of black beauty. And don't come back with the 'we come in all shades' bull. Yes we do, but not in beige, tan and pale white, with thin european noses.

Poor Maman she had a nervous breakdown and was taken by her Depression after her man left. She knew this day was coming but maybe hoped after all these years [25] of cohabitation and children he would still be in love with her and never leave. She was broken hearted alright but it was from being left by Papa. That's why she kept reenacting preparing for the Ball 30:10 when they first met So sad, at least her daughter visited her every day after she was committed

Amazon Prime had this movie. it was very good. This is based upon a true story is about a 19th century Creole quadroon who chose to become a nun instead of a mistress of a white planter like her mother and sister. Both of whom had been treated badly by their "protectors." There was also a man who fell in love with her and would have married her but she chose her vocation instead of him.
