I do kind of agree with what your saying but in the second sonic movie in the scene where sonic and tails are in wades garage longclaw says that the master emerald in the wrong hands would threaten all life in the universe ,the owls took the master emerald to make sure echidnas wouldn’t use it for evil and she passed on her duty to sonic.And tails also states when there in the owl temple that the owls thought that no one should use the master emeralds power,also longclaw states that the owl temple was a secret location that was on earth and it’s why the master emerald is in the secret owl temple it was meant to hide and keep it safe to no one can use it for evil and again there is prove of them not using its power but there we’re hiding the master emerald knuckles even says in the movie the “owls were fools thinking they could hide this”,I do kinda agree but at the same time kinda don’t.

Scary, maybe when Sonic 4 comes out, he has to choose his Owl mom or his best friend.
