What they don't say in this documentary is even though Larry had all those injuries, he still was averaging almost a triple-double for 3 years after all the surgery and back pain.

Courtship of Rivals has been reacted to by many reactors on YT. I want to say your reaction is one of the BEST I have viewed. I thoroughly APPRECIATE your reaction style. Your reactions were inciteful, informative, and sincerely honest. Your delivery was both MATURE and CHILL. I like to re-watch Courtship from time-to-time. No doubt, I will not hesitate to watch your reaction to Courtship many times over. Thank you, Sir! 👍

Although I've seen both of them play in person and have watched that documentary before, I so enjoy watching you younger people discover them and their impact on the NBA. You must check out the video of 5 x Larry Bird was injured but refused to give up. Keep 'em coming!

28:37 true, it never went to the AIDS stage BUT that was extremely rare back then. The average life expectancy from HIV diagnosis to death was 9 years at the time. The two of them did an interview on The Letterman Show discussing this. I’m old enough to remember that HIV was considered a death sentence so I can confirm that but I don’t know about the 9 years. ETA: here’s a link to the Letterman interview for anyone interested kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2KqeYSpltRpZ7csi=t8ye2XvBpugSqMCS

Bird said he would have retired earlier because of his back but Len Bias died right after the draft so he kept playing a few more years. The Celtics had a lot of hopes on Bias. Sad, sad thing. Thanks for the video!

He wouldn't be Larry Joe Bird if he didn't put in the work. Why he is how he is. Tough, strong, resilient, leader, teammate, and the Goat 🐐

Yeah Larry's household definitely wasn't like that, Magic has said Larry's mom treated him like a member of the family.

I agree getting married at the right person in your career(no matter the career) can help you settle down and make smarter decisions. Like you said in Ice Cube. I always thought Snoop marrying his high school sweetheart helped him survive Death Row, she helped keep him grounded.

Great reaction. Lived in Phoenix in the 80s. Was a Suns fan in the West but Celtics fan overall. Bird and Magic are my two favorite players to this day. All the best.

After Larry and Magic did that commercial, they actually became friends. Not drinking buddies but friends. Larry became more of a friend to Magic after finding out about the HIV. Also, Larry's spine issue was something he was born with. He didn't know until the work he did sent his back ailment to kick in early.
@justinpitcock53125 ай бұрын
If Magic didn’t get HIV and Larry didn’t hurt his back there wouldn’t be anyone debating who the top three NBA players are. Michael, Magic, and Larry would be the unanimous top 3.

This Earvin/Magic personality split does happen. There was once a poor English kid, Reginald Dwight, that wanted to be a songwriter...but no one wanted to buy his songs. So he and his lyricist buddy decided that maybe if he played the songs, then it would drum up interest in bands buying them. Dwight was shy and withdrawn, so he created an alter-ego of his own to allow him to perform on stage. He came up with the name Elton John to give him the confidence to go out and do it. Reg and Elton were completely different people...just like here.

With the caliber of players that LA has ALWAYS had, they should have won every championship they played in. Boston had scrappy, hard nosed players and Larry Bird willed them to win for the most part. Most heart and toughness of anyone I’ve ever seen.

Really Bird Did Hire Some People To Do The Shoveling Of The Gravel. His Younger Brother & A Couple Of His Friend's Wanted To Do It & Make Some Money. But They Were Constantly Taking Breaks & Whining About How Hard It Was. So Pissed Off Bird Said F--- It & Showed Them He Could Do It By Himself, ha ha ha. And He Did. They Said Bird Had A "Small Spinal Canal" Where All Your Back Nerves Are In. They Said Even If Bird Didn't Hurt In 1985, That Later On In His Life It Would Have Still Gave Him Problems. But Yes We Would Have All Like It Better (including Bird) If It Would Have Showed Up Much Later In His Life. The Reason Bird Didn't Retire Earlier Also Was Because They Needed His IQ Skills On The Floor To Help The Next Up & Coming Players On That Team. But Bias Died Right After His Draft. So No One Knows? So Bird Kept Trying To Help The Rest Of Them. Bird Just Couldn't Keep Playing For That Reason. The Celtics Tried To Pull A Fast One On Him To Keep Him, But Bird Wasn't Having It. They Were Going To Try And PAY Him Big Money For Him To Only Play Half OR Even Less Just To Keep Him. Bird Said NO, It's Wrong To Get Paid That Kind Of Money If I'm To Hurt To Play. How Many "Men" Would Turn That Kind Of Contract Down? 97% Would Not. And Yes The Team Did Go Down After Bird Retired BUT A Lot Of Teams Went Down Because A Lot Of The Best Players Were Retiring & Some Trying To Play In Their Last Years & Not In Any Kind Of Prime Any Longer.

For the younger people here, being HIV positive at this time was a death sentence. It meant a brutal, agonizing death with no hope of treatment or cure. The fear, hatred, and homosexual angle was real. One of my favorite authors, Isaac Asimov, died from 'kidney failure' in 1992. No one knew that he contracted HIV from a blood transfusion during surgery. He made sure the real cause of his death was hidden until the doctors that operated on him were safely dead...for fear that they would be retaliated against. It wasn't their fault...no one knew that HIV had tainted the blood supply at that point.

Ok, I'm Going To Try This ONE-Last Time. 1.) You Don't Need To Keep Your Mouse/Arrow On The Bottom Line. Know One Wants To See Your "App's" Showing. Move Your Mouse/Arrow Up & If You Need To See The Time Left On The Video, All You Have To Do Is Barely Touch Your Mouse & It Will Show The Time. 2.) You Can Also Use Your "Space-Bar" On Your Computer To STOP & START UP. Just Hit 1-Time To Stop & 1-Time To Start It Back Up. 3.) Before You Start Your Video Back Up, Hit The < That Is On Your KEY THAT HAS THE WORD "Home" On It. You Will See There Is A "Triangle Shape

Wow....that bitchfest was right out of line...if thats you're idea of guidance and helpfulness......well how are you going to learn to be better if no one helps you out a little....See i'm helping you, lol and also....condescending and insulting in tone.....I'm somewhat disturbed by the thought of anyone seriously unaware that 1.) No one asked for a critique 2.) instead of listing shit you disapprove of, use that time to find the types of reactors you find who maneuver and navigate their OWN equipment and their OWN reaction video. Get over yourself.....its fucken youtube youtroll. lol

Yes, I believe those < > keys moves back and forwards 5 seconds. I also like to use the speed setting to slow some of the passing sequences down, so I can actually follow the ball. Or if someone is super slow talking (not here), I increase the speed.

The Lakers had it easy tho. The west was so weak in the 80s that they only had to beat the Rockets to make the Finals. Same with Jordan and the Bulls in the 90s. The East was so weak that it was Beat the Knicks and you are in the finals (until 98 when they went to 7 games against the Pacers , coached by ...... Larry Bird)
