Today a friend asked me why I’m only subscribed to 2 channels? (Tessie’s channels) I explained to her I’ve watched other homestead channels and didn’t feel the authenticity like I do here. After dinner my family sits down and we watch Tessie’s videos. She’s wholesome but also awakening with her insight. A rare find in the KZbin world these days. ❤

Chicken pot pie was my favorite meal as a child and my mom made it homemade from scratch. She taught me to make it and I'm still making it after 51 years of marriage. We put chopped celery and onions in it as well. I use two cups of flour and two eggs and a little water to make the pot pie dough. Makes a big pot.

There's a couple who make KZbin video reviews of restaurant meals in Appalachia and Amish country. I was surprised to see how many of those restaurants have "Chicken Pot Pie" on their menus and it was just like this, complete with big square noodles. I never knew that until I saw their videos.

I can't believe how much ground you covered in just a little over 10 minutes, Tessie! Conserving gray water, composting, authentic Amish cooking, rotating your stored food stock and probably more that I haven't even thought of. When you were a young wife and mom, did you ever dream that the day would come when the wisdom of your beloved Grandma Fannie (or your Aunt Edna) would be shared with over 78,000 people around the globe?! That just seems miraculous. (And I believe that in a way it is!) So many families are gaining wisdom and saving money because of your time and effort spent in passing along their experience. Don't you feel sorry for kids who haven't grown up in places that are rural -- or at least close to rural areas? They might go through their whole childhood years without ever tasting something like your Amish chicken pot pie -- that is made with carrots that are homegrown, potatoes from your own garden, no preservatives or chemicals... in short everything fresh. Even though some people think that you and Chevy Man (and many of us) live kind of a low income life, we really are eating just about the best quality food possible when it comes to what comes from our kitchens! And no matter what the future throws at us, we can give our families food that will give them not only a balanced diet, but the comfort of... well... comfort food! 😀

I didn't grow up with a lot of potatoes compared to many we knew, have gone on to utilize potatoes for thier own flavor and also to use them as a food stretcher, have spent a couple of very lean times eating a LOT of potatoes, and have sorta kinda eaten potatoes since. It was not until this year, 2022, when the cost of potatoes went way up and we've purchased them sparingly that I realized quite how many potatoes we normally eat! I'm binging on a 20 pound bag we bought for $7.21 just a few (they are small) here and there fresh from the mircrowave.

When there was too much work this summer and I didn't have those jars yet, I froze my applepiefilling and the tomato passata, they're both canned now. And I'm working on getting away from the freezer next year, as electricity will soar here in France as in Germany, I suppose. So I order jars every month to get a good stock for canning my garden produce and concentrate on stocking up on canned veggies and legumes, too. That pot pie looks amazing!! I'm getting a cast iron pot on feet in November that will make my stews and soups in the chimney whilewaiting for a woodcooker that will also heat the house. But I suppose sooner or later, all these alternatives will be taxed or forbidden too in this crazy country...meanwhile, we have to manage and hope for the best. Much love!!

Hey Tessie, I've started washing out the store bought boxes of chicken stock and reusing them. I make dog food and boil chicken, so I put the chicken broth in the used boxes, filled 3/4 only, and then put them in the freezer until I can finish it off to make stock with veggies and can them. Makes life easier 😊 That looks amazing! I love comfort food. Surprised you don't let your chickens eat the peelings and scraps? Is there a reason? 🤔 Blessings 🥰

Yummy 😋 My freezer is now full of delicious things! I had a very busy day on Saturday. I baked no knead bread, oatmeal cookies, snickerdoodles, blueberry muffins, oat muffins and oat rolls. I borrowed 2 crockpots and had pots on each of the stove burners (4). I made black bean soup, 2 kinds of chili, great northern beans stew, lentil stew and vegetable stew. I'm SO happy to have this bounty. Broth may be added to stew to become soup if desired and can be stretched with the addition of oats, potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, and whatever other veggies whenever they arrive. 😊 I think I might need to make potpie now! I need to secure some small pie plates.
