I am going to mount a flat screen TV in my shop so I can watch your videos, and others, while I am working on my 56. I may never got back in the house! ;) Thanks for what you do! I bought a Harbor Freight hydraulic press so I can rebuild my A-Arms for my 56. But, like you, I am seeing areas where I can improve on GM's design. It is easy to bend the A-Arms in a press removing the lower bushings, so I am making some small pieces of steel to bolster the A-arms where they tend to collapse. Going to weld them solid for my future piece of mind. Keep up the good work!!

That is a pretty slick way of getting those bushings in without a press! This reminds me that I need to go see my buddy to build a set of control arm toolings for my press because I have 2 set of a-arms that need to be done soon. $50 for a short shaft Turbo 400 is a steal! Great info as always and keep up the great work!

If I am not mistaken the shafts have to be installed the same way they came out. Mark them Left / Right and Front I am going to do the front end on 56#2 sometime in the near future and I think I'll use your weld to a piece of square tubing tip even though I have a press. Your method is probably faster than finding the stuff to support the A frame.

Advance auto has a loaner kit for upper control arms. I just used it to remove and install my new bushings on my 65 Galaxie 500. Not necessary to weld anything.

1957 Ford control arms look and are indeed beefier and better built even fords bushings are larger

I just wanted to share some info with you my dad use work for a tire store and they did front ends and replace bushing and what have you there was they this big vice and he would put the Aarms in the vice drive them out with a air Chisel and then he would open up the vice big enough where it was larger than the bushing then he would get a bushing and set it in the hole and he had device that was about 4 inches long and it would fit around the rubber of the bushing and he would seat to the metal and he pounded the bushing in to where it was seated down on the Aarms then he would turn the arm over and put the steel rod in the arm and repeat the same thing over. And they fit perfect every time. Hope you liked the idea and maybe in the future you could adapt the idea to help you get done a little quicker. Now im going to finish your great video.

I wish you only the best and I wish I had your talents then I could be working on Classics like the Belair 1955 up to 1957 are my favorites

hmmm. i just used a vice to grab the arm snuggly then used a socket and a light hammer to put the bushings in. hopefully i didn't screw up the control arm, didn't think they were so delicate.

Yep. They will fold inward easily. When I was about 19, I took my 55 A arms to a shop to have old bushings removed and new pressed in. They chewed them up using a vice and folded up two of them and I payed for it.

I just noticed while you were cutting that A frame loose that those hot spart are flying into your Garage onto your blach 55 ? I hope not
