I have never seen anyone play the arpeggio like that i Beleive even the master himself Jean michel uses computers at times what you did to this track was astounding I would bow in your presence...also the way this is filmed is great I love playing keyboard but have no musical training watching this video has allowed me to learn a great deal only downfall is on arpeggio shadows on keys make it a little hard to see and your hands move to damn fast lol. Congrats on the best cover i have ever heard we need more from you and jarre ( like if you agree ) P.S 3 people are deaf

That's true, but that's why one of his aides Francis Rimbert play as second hand to prevent JMJ play anything wrong and peoples and his fans will not noticed it :)

Thomas from Denmark I'm friend with have also played this track and much better than this because he told me Rune Foshaug played a little error about the bass keys and not correctly, so why write this was the best cover you ever have heard Simon hehe :) I have that song on my JMJ Song Book Volume 1 here at home and Rune did not played the Arpeggio with 8va, that you can hear on JMJ Paris La Defense concert, when JMJ and his aides are playing Equinoxe 4 Live :)

At Paris La Defense 1990 and EIC Barcelona in 1993 and other concert I have noticed Francis Rimbert play that arpeggio part :) Computer JMJ have used is to play his tracks :) If I want to play some music using sheet on my computer I use f. example Encore or Finale to play out my keys :) Do you think I for example feed this music program with keys and not play it out from my Synth or Keyboard? I don't care what other peoples says about JMJ and that he have used some playbacks on his concert, but who are playing them :) It's he and his aides who have done it not some damn computers :) On his concert Paris La Defense on stage was lots of Keyboards, synths and equipments and do think JMJ will waste much money to have all these equipments on stage and he and his aides should use only playbacks hehe :) How about the drummer and percussion players JMJ had on stage on Paris La Defense? They were pretending they played their drums etc? No, I don't think so, when I have noticed so many times before they sometimes are looking down on their sheets :) So peoples, who are talking JMJ have used playbacks at some of his concerts they are not better themselves hehe :) Not me either to be honest here :) Use playbacks and play together with it is more funnier :)

Thank you! :-) I first listened to the original Equinoxe IV as well as the Concerts In China version and slowed it down to have a better chance to hear the notes being played. Then I created a new sound in my Korg Radias synth that plays these notes using the "mod sequencer" feature of that synth. The low ones and high ones are the same, just with a few octaves between them. I then assigned a controller to fade between the high ones and the low ones.

Very well done, thanks for sharing! I like the sounds from those Korgs, very close to the original. One thing that struck me immediately is your interpretation of the arpeggio, you play the E and G lower notes where they originally are the A' and E. Hats off, sir!

OK, thanks for your soon answer, i think i understand what you say, i love Korg Radias although i don´t have it, i had the chance to play with one once and fell in love with it immidiatelly. I can tell i love JMJ´s music and clone some special sounds with vst's, like the robot in equinoxe IV i´ve cloned it very well with Arturia ARP2600V, and so many others sounds. I´ve listened to your work, and i can tell that is exceptional. I heard first voyager, because i had in mind a song for that too

It is a Korg Radias, and a Korg M3-73 (with Radias synth board installed in addition to the standalone Radias synth).

@sp4zzer Yep, the Radias is now mounted on the M3's keybed while the Radias' own keybed sits alone on the top tier on the keyboard stand (I've stripped it down and removed the hinge mechanism). This is the way I have it now, and I like it. :-)

BTW, I normally like to create my own versions of the songs I cover, but I felt that this sound was the Equinoxe IV "signature sound" and had to recreate it. :-) But it is a modelled sound (not a preset nor a sample) but I don't play each note, that goes automatically with the "modulation sequencer" feature of the Radias, but could just as well have been played with an arpeggiator or similar feature.
