In this episode of Cover 1 Film Room Feature we dive deep into how Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills offense dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars by using pre-snap motion and shifts. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady dialed up a brilliant game plan, leveraging personnel and movement to help Allen identify defensive coverages and exploit the Jaguars' man coverage.
We’ll break down the key plays where these shifts gave Allen a clear picture of the field, helping him improve his mechanics, accuracy, and decision-making. Watch how Allen's eyes and feet stayed in sync as he worked through his progressions, leading to a monster game with four touchdowns and over 260 passing yards.

The very first play of the offense, he is rubbing DB's to spring Cook for a first down reception. Guy will be a weapon catching the ball, as well. Can't wait for Josh to start sending him and Keon some jump balls. I said it before, and I'll say it again, ...I think the Hollins/Samuel signing, was quietly a monumental move by Beane. With the addition of Keon and MVS, our WR room went from depleted, to actually better overall (my opinion). Now Josh finally has the blend of (size/speed/athleticism) that will allow him to really maximize his potential. And with Joe Brady taking a page out of the Patriots playbook, and having Josh play point guard, and scheming his playmakers into the most advantageous positions, (basically, letting your playmakers make the big plays!) Josh can finally sit back, relax, and let some other people carry the weight here and there. Excellent formula for success. Love this team!

I agree, this is what I always wanted our offense to look like. We now have a well rounded offense that can quick strike, run the ball and hit them deep. We saw some of it the year we had the perfect game against the pats and then we lost to KC in the 15 second game during the AFC championship game. We would have won the Super Bowl that year!

@@alpharob6959 I mean, the truly scary thing is, ....that although "physically" Josh has essentially peaked, "mentally," his game still has some ceiling. If Josh tightens up his game a little bit more (pocket presence, deep ball accuracy, etc), and I'm sure he will, ....he will be even BETTER in the coming seasons. Honestly, until his run game is diminished (say when he's 40, lol) he will probably still be an effective pocket passer, Lol. Guy is just good. What can I say?

@@SeanL-jw9rr I agree especially the thing bout the deep ball it's only 1 way to get better at that is to throw bout 3 or 4 a game cuz those are bout timing . And now he understands throw to the open guy underneath and let him run 10yds after now he's dangerous. And he seen just about every defense scheme and know where he's going with the ball b4 he snaps it now only if his defense can show up in the playoffs if they do the bills win the SB cuz allen is the best qb in the league and no one changing my mind

@@alpharob6959 I mean, I won't disagree. Tossing all bias out the window, from what I've seen (granted I'm a Bills fan), Josh is just better than the rest. Mahomes, only by a little, and then there's the rest (Lamar, Burrow, Rodgers, Hurts, etc). Josh is going to accumulate more knowledge and be able to play more calmly in the future, and it is only going to bode well for him. As it is he's too fun to watch. Oh well, won't catch me complaining, lol

@@SeanL-jw9rr it took allen years to understand that he doesn't have to do everything all the time just cuz ur a fast car doesn't mean you have to drive fast all the time but that game vs jags he picked his shots down field he threw to the open guys in front of him and let them do the rest he pick his spots to run when it was call for with his duel threat talent if he continued to master the field like that he's unstoppable cuz no qb in the league can do what he can

That play where you could hear Josh say, “hurry get set” to Mack was a flawlessly executed read and play. He moved Mack to recognize coverage and bring a defender over there. And moved Samuel to the right to find the soft spot in the defense for that 8-9 yard curl route. It was flawless. So simple and basic but the fact Josh orchestrated that was Peyton manning-Esque. Edit: damn I didn’t realize you covered it lMFAO well done. That’s the play I was talking about to Samuel.

Yessirs. Josh may have physically peaked, but he still has ceiling with mental advantages to gain. I too, hold out the hope that with his high football IQ, Josh will eventually start mind-bending defenses like Manning and (to a lesser extent) Brady, lol

This. I also noticed Joe Brady calling more plays that involved quick checkdown options, or escape routes from the RB, ...so that Josh had the option to maybe strike deep or simply dial it down for some easy yards, over and over again. Josh knows that the deep ball is fun, but with 2 high looks all the time, he knows the checkdowns are where it's at right now, unfortunately. On the plus side, it's keeping his completion percentage up and his turnover rate low. This team is going to be hard to stop. I honestly don't see a single team that could really beat us, ....at least at this very moment. And as good as we were last year, I definitely could not say that then, with confidence. This year, however, I can. We really do look that good. Good stuff! Lol

I love-hate that Joe Brady is gonna get an HC job this season or next; he and Josh clearly click on a fundamental level, {we clearly have the right pieces for Joe he has the right scheme for our pieces], and I'd love to see what sort of success we could have if Brady stayed our OC for few more seasons

Brady is only like 35yro. He might stick around for a while just to work with allen. He almost certainly will never work with a quarterback with Josh's tools again.

Yeah this is always a concern. Heck Josh is so good, Dorsey clearly held him and this offense way back, and he still was given another OC job right after he was fired. But like the previous reply stated, Brady is only 35. I can see him staying a few seasons, winning a whole bunch with Josh and building his coaching chops to the point where he feels ready to take on a HC job. I think right now, he just loves calling and offense and having Josh Allen is not something he’s quite ready to move on from.

The crazy thing is that for the most part these aren't gimmicky concepts. It seems like it's Brady looking at a mismatch on film and spamming it until the defense adjusts. And the Dolphins and Jags just... didn't.

"Who's going to be that guy to break out on one-on-ones" ...Turns out it's Joe Brady. Honestly, I wasn't worried about the "who" this year was going to get open. I just knew there would typically be someone open on most plays, and Brady is definitely helping that. We may not have a superstar caliber receiver, but IMO, we have at least a few twos, and multiple threes. Kincaid, Shakir, and Keon could all be 2's. Samuel, Knox, Cook could be 3's, then you still have guys like MVS that are a threat as well. So the defense has to pick who to focus on, and with all the Bills from different positions who can run routes at a high level, eventually the opposing defense will run thin on Safeties and Corners, and one of those quality call catchers is going to be matched up on a lesser defender, and they'll get open.

It's kind of funny that you can no longer play man coverage against our QB because he is just that good. Seriously though. And the Jax DC was like "This is the NFL, we can cover them with man." Fast foward to the final box score. You can't. And I find this very impressive in today's NFL, ...that a QB is so good that he deleted an entire defensive scheme just by being himself. Love this team!

The way Josh's mental acuity is just continuing to increase (slowly but continually) every game, ...leads me to believe that Josh will be dominating the QB position for many a year to come. One can dispute his primacy (maybe, lol), but not his play. Guy is a dawg. His skill at making reads, moving through progressions, and his just plain overall understanding of the game, seem to all be progressing nicely. This, in conjunction with his mechanics work, and Brady's well planned schemes, have led to the best version of Josh I've seen yet.

Love the little details, like Kincaid rubbing Hines-Allen to help out Dion before taking off on his route. And on the same play, taking his route deep during Josh's scramble, to set up a potential big play if Josh looked his way. Josh took the checkdown, but still, love seeing the small things working together to make this team truly great. As always, love the attention to detail Erik, as well as the insightful analyses. With Buffalo playing such good situational football, and with all the fun and positive vibes, ...this team is going to be very difficult to derail. Gonna be a fun season this year. And the highlights! Oh the highlights! Lol. And next year, Ahh, ...don't even get me started! Lol

Man, these receivers have to love Josh. I know it wasn't always true, (especially early on when Josh was still really developing), ...but man does Josh do a good job with his ball placement on shallow throws. That pass to Samuel on the back shoulder specifically stands out. Thinking Samuel might be in concussion protocol right now, if that ball gets placed anywhere else, lol
