8:57 i wonder if any development is being made on missiles that can be jettisoned from the sub, and launched at a later scheduled time. this could allow a sub to launch missiles from multiple locations at different targets simultaneously, without compromising the subs location
@SpenserRoger
@SpenserRoger 4 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. A saturation attack would also be much more effective. Imagine a dozen or so cruise--even hypersonic missiles suddenly appearing from every direction surrounding a carrier or other capital/high value asset. Or even better yet imagine a UUV or submarine that can deploy sub-surface cruise missile launchers that just float below the surface waiting to be activated. Or silos themselves could even have some propulsion and navigation abilities of their own. Or a UUV that had missiles loaded horizontally and the whole thing rotated vertically to launch the weapons, that way it might be able to maneuver through and in shallow water. You might even be able to make much of these structures out of fiberglass/carbon fiber / kevlar so as not to alert magnetic sensors, if that is such a method used for detection. The UUV could also be designed to mimic the shape and signature of a "biologic" such as a dolphin, or killer/sperm whale. Communications could be masked by mimicking the eminations of a tracking beacon/collar used in the scientific study of such marine mammals. Fishing/whaling vessels could also be used for the clandestine operation and recovery of the UUVs.

In principle the problem is not the air pocket but the dimensions. Small diameter tubes resist much better to high pressure. So reducing dimensions should allow to build a harder hull.

@Dave Cockayne nuclear armed torpedos are not new. they have been around since the Cold War (in fact if i am not mistaken the Russian Sub that was shadowing the US destroyer maintaining the blockade of Cuba during the crisis had a number of nuclear Torpedoes' which the captain had the authority to use) regarding autonomous its not any different than a sub. either its slow and has relatively long range (but not as long as a sub) or its fast and has short range. Remember most anti-submarine Torpedo's are also autonomous (they operate on a search pattern until they run out of fuel)

There will propably emerge effective countermeasures to such surface attacks soon enough, I dare presume.

I honestly doubt they're extend far into the attack role. Torpedoes and missiles are large and expensive, and are really used in certain specific circumstances. Then power plants are large and often require at sea repair...both of these critical systems benefit from having on board technicians and maintenance personnel. It might be cheaper to build a bunch of UUVs, but it's more strategically viable to go the conventional route, just because of possible downtime.

I mean what is the point of something like that is rather than just using the nuke like a bomb. It just sounds like empty propaganda since creating a tsunami would probably be the least effective way of attacking a nation. Most nations are probably way more well prepared for handling a tsunami rather than a nuclear bomb, just take a look at the tusnami that hit Japan in 2011, it was the 4th largest Earthquake ever reported and the biggest tsunami ever reaching levels that would be impossible with a nuclear weapon and while it did do a lot of damage Japan dealt with it pretty well and recovered pretty fast. Imagine if a nuclear bomb with similar power had been detonated in down town Tokyo instead, it would probably have killed tens of millions not 16k, such a bomb doesn't even exist but even a regular nuke would cause similar damage, I mean it's Japan so we do actually have examples of nukes being used and the two nukes on Japan together killed over 200.000 over 10x as many as the tsunami. So like talking about using nukes to create tsunamis is kinda just empty technobable, it wouldn't actually make sense as nukes are way more effective as just bombs since flood defenses are very common the world over but right now basically only the US has a system for intercepting ballistic missiles.
@bezahltersystemtroll5055
@bezahltersystemtroll5055 4 жыл бұрын
the tsunami aspect is just propaganda to impress the "duuude, the deep state is mobilising for war against Russia" - types. The point is blowing up a coastal city with a bomb, no tsunami needed.

no one is planning on making a Ballistic missiles submarine that is unmanned. I don't honestly think that large UUVs are even a good idea. A big part of why Ships and Subs have crews it to MAINTAIN them. Unmanned ships don't fix themselves. with UAVs aircraft don't stay airborne for weeks while a large UUV might be at sea for months. You need a crew- if for no other reason then to fix whatever breaks down. This is especially true for older ships which EVERYTHING gets old eventually. The most important part of UUVs is for intelligence gathering. You can have lots of small or medium sized UUVs surround your fleets of manned ships that will detect threats before they are dangerously close to the fleet. Small UUVs can be dropped into the water to hunt for hostile submarines and medium sized UUVs can tow sonar arrays and scan for air threats. Having UUVs means you have to fight your way through an outer layer of ships before you attack the real fleet.
@7ElevenTruther
@7ElevenTruther 2 жыл бұрын
I can (conventionally armed) UUVs could be used as a replacement for full sized manned SSKs in litterwhole. Unlike manned diesel submarines even poorer countries would be able to buy them in bulk. You could design an UUV with room for 6 frontal preloaded tubes for either one heavy torpedo or harpoon missile each or a mix of both the size of school buss, buy 3 or 4 of them for the cost of single full sized manned 2000-3000 ton ssk, not have to worry about crew shortages, and have a much larger fleet to patrol more of your coast and sea lanes simultaneously that will making even the crew of an enemy nations dedicated ASW ships sweat a bit.

Why is there no detonation charge if caught in a fishing net, or how ever they get ahold of them. Self destruct would keep the exact secrecy of it's techology

The problem is that AI is nowhere near the capacity to act so independently. Buy a manned SAAB Kockums Visby-class sub instead. For a fraction of the cost, you get one machine capable of taking out an entire US carrier fleet without being detected.
