@@afguy8i Your either a troll or not smart. The braindead decks are normally aggro, as there is normally little change in gameplan no matter what you play against. Control deck building alone is extremely hard, as you must balance your answers. Hell, opening hands are difficult with control now. The format punishes you so hard that one bad turn can be death against aggro or even control mirrors.

@RandomHammy
@RandomHammy 3 жыл бұрын
@@afguy8i yeah there is. It just needs game knowledge. Why do you think so much of CGB's commentary is discussing what cards they might have and what mana is open? That counterplay is either go under (aggro them out as control is slow), punish tap-outs, or bait out counters/removal. There were even examples in this video... e.g. when he tapped the wrong mana for Blood on the Snow and didn't have enough snow mana for the re-cast. Control decks just force both players to think about what cards are meta and plan for what players can do with mana. Sometimes this means changing the order you cast spells, other times it means "trading my weaker spell for your removal so my big spell gets through". Other times you just shrug because you can just play two more small creatures each time they kill one 🤷‍♂️ Green decks just have more trouble as very few of them plan to cast more than one spell a turn (high CMC creatures), so single target removal and counters are very strong against green. But white and red decks tend to just shrug at counters as they win through tempo and casting more spells then control! Blue and black tend to just mirror the control or find ways to out tempo (graveyard interactions or tapping cards). There is loads of counter-play against control decks

You need to realize that the pain you felt in this game is the pain most players feel in any game over 5 mins. Many of us just want to get it, get our dailies, and get out and get extremely tilted by anyone trying to play a deck that has a slow or indirect path to winning. Different people have different goals when playing, but I found it amusing that you, the controlliest of control players got tilted by someone else playing slowly. To me, this was just perfect karma biting you. lol I always enjoy the games and commentary, keep it up!

@@GregDorn Fair enough! Of course, I think every CCG player has a right to be selfish and not really care that others might tilt at their decks (in other words, every CCG player is allowed to be a bit of a hypocrite). Adding on to what you said about different goals, part of the beauty of a lot of CCGs - but especially MtG - is that opposing strategies are often completely incompatible with one another. I'm going to do my best to make every in-and-out aggressive player suffer because I like games where there's (honestly needless) complexity and a lot of interactions between cards so I build decks that try to do that, which doesn't exactly tend to happen quickly. Yet I'll still tilt against very control-heavy decks and feel no sense of irony; I'd wager CGB is in a similar headspace here. Except players that rope every turn. Fuck those people; I refuse any excuse for that.
@clagen86

The problem with cards like Mind Flayer is when you're playing against the meta, it's either a bunch of small dorks going wide or some control matchup that if they play any creature at all that's worth stealing they will likely have ways to counter/kill your Mind Flayer in the moment.

I'm actually testing a Mordenkainen Dimir Draw deck which is not too dissimilar to this. Where it differs (aside from 4x Mordenkainen), I took Disdainful Stroke instead of Test of Talents to hit the 4 / 5 drop Enchantments and Artifacts (Skeleton Swarming anyone?) and the usual UB cards (Alrund's Epiphany, Baleful Mastery, Deadly Dispute). I dropped the Shambling Ghast for Eyetwitch and 4x Divide By Zero... It turns out that the flexibility of Lessons plus casting a spell to gain a spell is great with Mordenkainen. Lastly, there are two Graven Lore cards to refill the hand / dive into the deck for a Sea Gate Restoration, which normally ends up with a 20/20 dog illusion :D

Honestly - Hasbro should prioritise thinking time to match-making as opposed to other properties of the deck (like similar cards etc) This will improve user experience a lot. People who think a lot will want to play against other people who take their time to make their move. Just because some people pass up turns quicker doesn't mean they don't want to think. The distinction is a little like speed chess vs normal chess. People who think in shorter amount of time often do so for the courtesy of the opponent as well as themselves. And while we're on the topic, remove the shitty match-making based on similar cards etc. I don't think it's fair that I don't get matched against Winota decks because I have 4 Shadow's verdict and extinction event or when I get matched and I don't draw the cards I put in to address Winota. Draw and match-making should be purely random without manipulation - except perhaps the thinking time. If the meta has Winota rampaging around, it should also be meta to play a deck that specifically counters Winotas. That deck will be countered, which will be countered and the meta will move like this.

Imagine knowing you are playing against cgb and taking your time to make sure you don't do any misplays to ensure the best match possible is played and then you watch this video where he blasts you all video long saying you are the worst opponent he ever faced.

Sorry it was a tilting game quick question on the double blood on the snow possibility around 28:00 if you had manual tapped to use less snow lands and then he divided and you replayed it you would get the snow value right? Unless he doesnt divide and then you still get the board wipe? I know you win in the end and that there is always multiple paths to winning just wondering if it would be useful to try and juke someone that way?

When CGB came back with a can in hand I could have sworn he had a beer. Anything to numb the pain of having to play against a painfully slow opponent. Like I get trying to be tactical but come on dude. Anyways, love the content as always

Did it really have any impact at all, the salt.

The game was an anemic slap fight and the salt really didn't change anything.
