I kind of like that other murder spells are getting some use, like Poison the Cup. I half agree with CGB that this is not the best removal spell, but Heartless Act left such a power vacuum in the new rotation that an unconditional murder instant is just good even for 3 mana.

I was just working on Dimir or mono B Control to counter all the W and G aggro. For now I've settled on Sedgemoor Witch as the main wincon. Feed the Swarm to hit creatures or classes is great (losing life isn't a big deal when you have pests running around everywhere), and if you want more creatures to block with early/have a clock late, Mardu Outrider is a 3-mana 5/5 that is legal in Standard 2022 even though it's not from any of the legal paper sets.

Some alternatives for you to shoot down: Baleful Mastery over Poison the Cup, because sometimes you need something to just go away, permanently, and the 2 mana cost is handy in a pinch. More mana efficient, at the cost of your opponent drawing a possible replacement. Or a land. Umbral Juke over Soul Shatter- when it's a dead draw you can create a token to chump and protect with. Xanathar- Untap with him and you have control of what your opponent can draw and play. Makes for a powerful finisher.

The mono green loss didn't necessarily have to happen. I find in this format that using sweepers early and often is the best plan rather than getting greedy (especially if you have two in hand). Make them rebuild, so they can't use the creature land (or that it's all they can do). Make them have to focus on crewing the chariot. Limit their options.

Perhaps I am in the wrong, but at 25:07, couldn't you Divide by Zero in combat phase, instead of in response to the trigger, so that Chariot would have tapped 2 tokens for 4 damage, thus having 8 damage and avoiding lethal 2 turns later? I'm surprised how often paying the three mana for two cards on turn three is the right play, and with Mordenkainen and Iymrith the first and third levels are relevant. Kaldheim and Strixhaven provided lots of respectable, playable cards (Alrund, Goldspan Dragon, Elite Spellbinder, Expressive Iteration, Onyx, Faceless Haven, and few dozens more), but meta was still dominated by old Eldraine archetypes. Adventures, Yorion piles, Rogues. Mono White has been on the rise constantly, Jeskai Cycling won some, ofc Red Aggro and Rakdos Sacrifice played a big part. New decks from STX? Golgari (or Witherbloom, same thing) Sacrifice and Izzet Dragons. The latter has been really strong. But rotation comes soon, and AFR release flipped the table on 2021 meta. Now plenty of players lost interest on Eldraine-Strix standard and are already brewing decks for 2022 Standard which is (thankfully) playable on MTGA. On this 2022 meta Mono Green is leading the charge so far. And old archetypes, especially Adventures and Rogues, will lose top cards very soon, so it's a major turnaround.

I mean I am running one of this "filthy" creature decks and you can't tell me that control is in a bad spot. If it is so bad why are over 50% of ladder games in S2022 dimir/esper control? I mean I started to run sword of the realms with toski/cragplate baloth (which should be an overkill) to send control a message and they still get to remove those. Control might be a little to difficult for some who are used to press the emergent ultimatum in standard I win button but no one can tell me control is so bad because it is not...
@TJE.133 жыл бұрын
@@tobias97erdt I think as far as creature removal it has decent pieces (nothing amazing) but as far as counter spells, they arent in a good spot in this meta. Alot of decks have turns with nothing but activations into mana sinks with these new classes, that even happened a few times in this vid.. The deck is being carried by Alrunds Epiphany, without that one card this whole ship sinks 🤣
@seanwood30333 жыл бұрын
@@tobias97erdt Maybe you don't play counter spell/removal decks a ton but it's definitely in a mediocre spot compared to what creature decks can do right now. A good portion of the pieces for control are narrowly conditional or if they are broad, a bit too slow and 'overcosted'. Heartless Act was too good and glad to see it gone but there is a wide gap between it and the best options in 2022. I don't see the incentive to play a control deck when there is just superior value in the 1-3 CMC creatures in green, white, and a few choices in black/red. It's easier to go wide in the creature decks and just rebuild right now versus hoping for the perfect curve when playing control.
@tobias97erdt3 жыл бұрын
@@TJE.13 for a 4 set format the creature removal is very solid. I mean sure it is not on the level of standard/histroic but that would be quite degenerate if it was. That classes incentivise less counterspell heavy builds is an improvement imo because it encurages proactive play patterns, something that stands for interesting games and something that can exist in a format with only a very small numbers of semi game winning plays. However: the format lacks of viable noncreature builds and if only 1 build (monogreen aggro) is capable of reliably fighting against control we proably end up with a 2-3 deck format that is also quite meh. Can't t there be more value engines than ranger class to counter creature removal spamming control? I don't want those to be as strong as ranger class but good enough that there is more than 1 actual counter to the archetype.
