I had a couple of small rib eyes in the freezer. Trimmed them good and pounded them out to about 3/8" thick. Using this recipe, served with mashed potatoes and your white gravy made an impressive dinner. I've never gotten crust to stick very well, but this method sure works! Saxon yes I like Bobby Flay. He gives people a run for their money and when he loses he is a gentleman about it. Plus the fact chicken fried steak is more of a southern thing. I doubt that Flay has cooked many of them.
@saxon11774 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDavis-yz9nq Agreed, but give Bobby Flay a week to experiment with CFS recipes and there's a good chance he could kick the ass of just about any old southern chef. I think his taste buds have an I.Q. of 264.
@JohnDavis-yz9nq4 жыл бұрын
Saxon I think Flay had a week to experiment. That being said I would like either one of their steaks. And also take the competition out of Texas and the results may have been different. One is a stick to your ribs cowboy cook and the other is a high end chef. One tried to kick it up a notch and the other kept it simple. Texas people have their own idea what a chicken fried steak should taste like. Flay is capable of beating anyone at their own game at a given time.
@saxon11774 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDavis-yz9nq I lived in Austin, Tx. for 17 years and I feel blessed for it, I learned that southern, pan fried recipe and how to make the best CFS years ago and there is no substitute for it. Any extra herb or tweak of any kind to out do a good southern recipe may earn you a win in a contest but any good chef, including Bobby Flay, knows it's just a feeble attempt to make the best better. It's like how you don't improve on a 1911 Colt .45, a 427 AC Cobra or a KA-BAR. You just leave them alone and resign yourself to the fact that everything to make them the best has already been done. Have a good one!

OHYMYGOODNESS Cowboy Kent! I have been making mashed potatoes and gravy since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, but in all my years of home cooking, I have never, ever gotten a batter right, even for chicken fried! Tonight, on Valentine's Day 2019, we found your video. We made the batter, We double-dunked just like you said. My husband, who used to work at his momma's restaurant as a teen -- he had never ever cooked chicken-fried steak before (At a country breakfast restaurant -- isn't that crazy?!) We let them steaks sit just like you said to do, and then he fried them right up. I have never, ever had home battered and fried at home work out before or taste any good -- these chicken-fried steaks came out JUST PERFECT. So I hope y'all had a Happy Valentine's day out there in youtube-land. We had the best homemade chicken-fried EVER and it was GOOD.

My husband mumbled a lot over his supper plate and I've not figured out what exactly "mmmmm. mmm mmm mmm. MMMmm" means but I think he was trying to say nice things. I will definitely make this again in the future with one small adjustment. I'm going to reduce the lemon pepper by at least half. I enjoy lemon in sweet treats but not so much in savory dishes. That is just my personal taste and, as chief cook and bottle washer, it is my perogative to fiddle with recipes. My husband was in heaven either way.

If you don't have a wire rack handy to drain it after frying, like on a camping trip, crinkled-up aluminum foil on a paper plate works great. It still allows the oil to drain off but allows air to circulate under the meat so it doesn't get soggy. Works good for fried fish too. Worst thing you can do it put it on a paper towel, it'll get soggy on the bottom. I've made this recipe quite a few times now and it turns out so good, it's everything you want a CFS to be but can rarely get in a restaurant.

The throw down video was fun. Glad you beat that city slicker! Ha! He's a good sport though. Liked this one for the step by step. Much thanks to you, Shannon, Beagle and Frank too! Keep those videos coming! BTW, I think you should consider getting a line of Cowboy Kent cookware with some cast iron and utensils to add to the store.

Kent. Thank you for sharing. I'm a hobby cook but I've learned so much from watching your videos. I've made a bunch of your recipes for my hunting / fishing buddies and everyone raves about the meals. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and wit. You make cooking fun!

Congrats on beating Bobby. Sounds like that must have been a lot of fun. We don't have cable so I've not seen it. Very cool on the idea to make meat bigger. I didn't know that. Thanks for the fun video. You're very good at creating videos. Cast iron for the win. I have cabbage cooking in the cast iron right now. Peanut oil, I like but expensive.

I just made this as a Sunday breakfast for my sons... they loved it. I am at "World's Most Favored Mom" status right now. I made gravy on the side and wasn't paying attention to the beef bullion jar, I accidently put in chili paste into the gravy... HAHA... they didn't care, ate it anyway. It would have been great on a wet burrito!

Saving g chicken grease and trimming gs from fried chicken is a super add to the deep fry mix.. The crust has a bit of the chicken taste...my favorite is doing this with elk or venison... Thanks for all your videos!
