Real cowboys (ranchers) always wear hats during dinner breakfast lunch. The only time you take off hat is bed and the lords house. People who disagree watched 8 seconds one too many times.

Proper cowboy hat etiquette: 1) Family dinner - remove your hat. It's not polite or "cowboy" to have your hat on during family dinner, and in some cases, it's just a courtesy not to wear your hat at your family's house. 2) In the theatre (unless you're sitting in the back row) - remove your hat. It's just plain rude not to mention a distraction to others. 3) In church (during sermons or mass) - Remove your hat. It's not only disrespectful to the pastor or priest, it's a distraction to others. (Unless you're in a cowboy church, then it's perfectly okay) 4) When passing in close proximity to a lady (and greeting her): Tip your hat. It's a simple courtesy to the opposite gender. (And believe, she'll appreciate the gesture) 5) In a formal setting (when ladies are present) - Remove the hat. It's not polite or "cowboy" to have you hat on when in the presence of ladies. 6) The National Anthem - Remove your hat (whether ball cap or cowboy hat) and place it over your heart. Not only is it a respect to our Flag but it's also a respect to God. 7) In the presence of the dead or grieving families (at a funeral or funeral home): Remove the hat. It's a sign of respect to the families and those who've passed.

Removing your hat during the anthem is proper yes Placing it over your heart however is not That is a modern invention created by Hollywood and it has unfortunately become perceived as the proper thing to do, just like putting your hand over your heart even thought that was never a thing until the 50's Covering one's heart in America is EXCLUSIVE to the pledge of allegiance as you are openly swearing loyalty to the nation and putting your heart your very engine of your existence at its beck and call. To be ignorant of these things is to hold on to manufactured falsehoods and reverence for a time that never existed to begin with Know your history, not what you are told it was

@Mountain Chief the bellamy salute is literally palm down, man you can't even get the most basic of facts straight lol. And who do you think pushed the hand over your heart for the national anthem idea? Gee if only D.C. had a place they could go to with legions of directors, actors, and locations all existing for the sake of film making and propaganda? We had been doing the bellamy salute for over half a century by the time it was used by italy and germany, there was literally zero reason to change it whatsoever. You're pathetic

The only time I might ever take my hat off is if somebody politely asked me to. and even that is iffy. Hats are expensive, so I’m not putting it on the floor I’m not putting it at the end of a table to get backed off etc. my etiquette is keep your hat on wherever and whenever you want. You’re not gonna die if you don’t take it off somewhere.

cowboy hat etiquette: wear: working, casual events, driving, "night outs", sexytime take off: formal dinner, presence of a lady, church i almost forgot. Its also polite to remove your hat when entering into a facility (such as a bar, restaurant, store). after a short pause, putting the hat back on. shows respect to the people and the establishment. simple

Most of my cowboy hats have a strap on them I sometimes tuck it into the hat or sometimes let it hang around my neck. When I am riding my horses or even on my open top jeep if my hat should fly off my head I know that the strap will keep it from flying away. When I go someplace I push my hat off and it hangs behind my shoulders.

When she said purse hook, she didn’t mean you carry one around, she meant the purse hooks many bars and restaurants have that are for women’s purses that are installed under bar tops and under tables, if they could just design some for men’s hats as well that would be ideal.

EXACTLY why I watched this video, my hat is nice and expensive, I'm not gonna hold and handle my hat for an hour or more while I stand around in someone's house for a cocktail party or for the length of a church service on Sunday. I don't trust racks and thieves. Yet I do believe it is still respectful and warranted to remove while in someone's house and especially at church. There must be a way to keep from handling one's hat while uncovered for a lengthy amount of time.

The proper way to wear a hat is to wear it for yourself not for everyone else. Like you don’t need to worry about when you take it off or when to wear it. Just wear it whenever you want and take it off whenever you want. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks if they get angry because you’re wearing a hat they have some much more serious problems they need to be focused on instead of trying to control when other people wear a hat or not.

aw, y'all are precious! I vote more hat racks too! and more coat racks! I'm sick of having my vintage coats drag the floor at the bar! Another thing I'd like to add is that you NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT YOUR HANDS ON SOMEONES HAT. I get this a lot as a woman who wears a cowboy hat. Mostly it's dudes at bars that think they're being flirty by trying to grab my hat off my head. No. I punched a dude in the stomach for doing it once and if it were a dude doing that to a dude im sure they'd get their ass whooped. xo
