Cowboy Hat Review - Akubra, Rough Rider - Yes Mam.

Putting it on the brim made me cringe every time. That said, rip out the liner. That plastic top really gets sweaty/uncomfortable. The Akubras are comfortable enough without it. Makes it look less fancy (but to be honest that white liner is nothing to write home for) really only helps if you have a greasy head or wear a lot of product.

It’s interesting that your “rough rider” has the 3 vent holes, like the “stoney creek” hat model, but the band from a rough rider. My rough rider does not have the vent holes. Lucky you!

Just gonna chime in for a moment - He's obviously new to hats. This isn't a pure beaver hat, or something high end and custom made. It's an Akubra, which has a rich history of being used and abused. That's why I love mine! It's a rough and tumble hat. It's your mate in tough environments. Sure, he shouldn't put it on its brim. He shouldn't push down on it, but he might learn to re-block it, too. @youbored learn how to treat your hate and it'll last a lifetime, but let's also all remember, the thing is pretty durable, and it's not exactly 1500 dollars.

another choice would have been the snowy river hat, and please either hang the hat up or place its crown down when not wearing it

Beautiful hat.... You never want to leave it sitting on its brim. It will lose the shape very quickly. You either want to hang it or set it down on the Crown. 👍

Hi Michel, cheers for the advice! With the brushing, do you know why the direction matters? I have watched some hat care vid's since I created the review, but none have given a reason. I assume it is to do with the way the fur/felt is orientated during the creation process?

@@youboredtoo indeed! When they form it, the prosess goes clockwise, so when you clean clockwise you put the dirt further in. So cleaning (brushing) goes contre-clockwise! Succes with the felt in 40 degrees C.😃 (sorry for the bad english, I'm belgian🇧🇪!!) 🖐

@@michelsupply4012 Actually one brushes anticlockwise to follow the nap or lay of the fur fibres. If you brush clockwise, you can lift the fibres & change/damage the felt finish, making it rougher. An Aussi though shouldn't be brushing his lid. Lol;

@@youboredtoo If it’s made in the Southern Hemisphere, you brush counterclockwise. Clockwise if it’s made in the Northern Hemisphere. If you’re on the equator or either of the poles, brush side to side or up and down.

Hadn't thought about that, good call! I do like the liner though, fancies it up a bit! Winter isn't far off, will leave it on for the cooler months🥶 then get stuck into it for next summer. Cheers🤠
